tw04··on How Jeff Bezos Brought Down the Washington Post
Because the entire reason they "refused to endorse a candidate" was at the behest of Bezos because he's a greedy coward. The actual people working at the paper were quite clear and vocal about their support of one candidate. The downside to one candidate is that his playbook was literally bringing facism to America via "Project 2025". The downside to the other candidate was highlighted by being a black woman, and not being progressive enough I guess? That's not a difficult choice for anyone outside of the ruling class.
tw04··on Data centers in space makes no sense
Amazon’s new campus in Indiana is expected to use 2.2GW when complete. 50Mw is nothing, and that’s ignoring the fact that most of that power wouldn't actually be used for compute.
tw04··on X offices raided in France as UK opens fresh investigation into Grok
And the artist is punished for doing so. Thank you for proving my point.
tw04··on X offices raided in France as UK opens fresh investigation into Grok
>Every AI system is capable of generating CSAM and deep fakes if requested by a savvy user. The only thing this proves is that you can't upset the French government or they'll go on a fishing expedition through your office praying to find evidence of a crime.

If every AI system can do this, and every AI system in incapable of preventing it, then I guess every AI system should be banned until they can figure it out.

Every banking app on the planet "is capable" of letting a complete stranger go into your account and transfer all your money to their account. Did we force banks to put restrictions in place to prevent that from happening, or did we throw our arms up and say: oh well the French Government just wants to pick on banks?

>Zip2

I guess props to scamming Compaq into making a large investment that didn't pan out. He did personally make money so I guess win for him.

>In an effort to woo investors, Elon Musk built a large casing around a standard computer to give the impression that Zip2 was powered by a supercomputer.

>PayPal

Huh? He didn't found Paypal, his company was acquired by Paypal. You might as well give him credit for eBay while you're at it. Paypal released their first digital wallet in 1999. They acquired x.com (and Musk) in 2000. Paypal itself was then acquired by eBay in 2002.

>Tesla

Investor, not founder.

>SpaceX

Yup, props here.

>Grok/xAI

Hasn't made a penny, no signs it had any path to profitability, which is why it was shoved into Space-X to cover his personal losses.

tw04··on xAI joins SpaceX
Friendly reminder for anyone that forgot - xAI acquired Twitter, so now Space-X is the proud owner of a dying social media platform that they overpaid for.

Any claims that this is about putting compute in space is just a non-sense distraction. This was absolutely about bailing Elon out of his impulsive, drug-fueled Twitter purchase.

The only question now is: when they try to go public, will they be punished for wasting so much money or not? My guess is: not.

> "10 days begging each minute to die but you can't because you're borderline unconscious"

They aren’t going to know if it does that until they give it to a human in the first place. The only difference in giving it now is they lack a control group.

tw04··on CISA’s acting head uploaded sensitive files into public version of ChatGPT
I for one, after doing a bit of reserach, was shocked to find out the person in question is apparently completely unqualified for the job (if him pasting sensitive information into public ChatGPT didn't already make that abundantly clear). But the highlight from his Wikipedia page is this one:

>In December 2025, Politico reported that Gottumukkala had requested to see access to a controlled access program—an act that would require taking a polygraph—in June. Gottumukkala failed the polygraph in the final weeks of July. The Department of Homeland Security began investigating the circumstances surrounding the polygraph test the following month and suspended six career staffers, telling them that the polygraph did not need to be administered.[12]

So the guy failed a polygraph to access a highly controlled system full of confidential information, and the solution to that problem was to fire the people in charge of ensuring the system was secure.

We're speed running America into the ground and half the country is willfully ignorant to it happening.

tw04··on Tesla ending Models S and X production
They outsold the model S last year which was their primary competition.

They successfully launched their second model, the gravity, which would have competed with the X but will now likely just outright replace it.

Their mass produced $50k SUV is expected to launch this year.

tw04··on Tesla ending Models S and X production
Basically yes. The robots take care of the rich, and poor people with their need to have a cut of the resources just go away.

They do believe in a post capitalism utopia, they just think only about a thousand people need to enjoy it.

tw04··on Tesla ending Models S and X production
Lucid runs circles around the S when it comes to build quality and features.
tw04··on Tesla ending Models S and X production
Tesla sold 1.7M cars in 2024. Toyota sold 11.1M cars in 2024.

Tesla’s current market cap is $1.43T. Toyota’s current market cap is $354B.

There really aren’t that many teslas on the road, and their sales are declining.

> The classic example here is what happens when someone is being stalked by an abusive ex-partner who works in law enforcement and has access to those databases.

Which has literally happened already for anyone who thinks “there’s controls in place for that sort of thing”. That’s with (generally) good faith actors in power. What do you think can and will happen when people who think democracy and the constitution are unnecessary end up in control…

tw04··on Google confirms 'high-friction' sideloading flow is coming to Android
I can say that my parents have never once complained about a scam on their phone caused by sideloading.

In fact I don’t know anyone among any of my friends or family that have ever had that issue.

Every last one of my non-technical friends and family have been hit by spyware on their windows devices.

To say I’m extremely skeptical that this has anything to do with protecting users is an understatement.

In fact I’m willing to go out on a limb and say it’s a nearly non-existent issue outside of people being targeted by nation states.

Would love to see some numbers backing up the claim that sideloading is resulting in mass exploiting of Android devices because I can’t find them.

tw04··on Proof of Corn
>I can definitely believe that in 2026 someone at their computer with access to money can send the right emails and make the right bank transfers to get real people to grow corn for you.

They could also just burn their cash. Because they aren’t making any money paying someone to grow corn for them unless they own the land and have some private buyers lined up.

tw04··on Proof of Corn
“A farm coordinator doesn’t plant every seed”

Huh? I have no doubt that mega corporate farms have a “farm manager”, but I can tell you having grown up in small town America, that’s just not a thing. My buddies dad’s were “farm manager”, and absolutely planted every seed of corn (until the boys were old enough to drive the tractor and then it was split duty), and the big farms also harvested their own and the smaller ones hired it out.

So unless claude is planning on learning to drive a tractor it’s going to be a pretty useless task manager telling a farmer to do something he or she was already planning on doing.

tw04··on Significant US farm losses persist, despite federal assistance
Downvoting without engaging in a discussion kind of directly violates both the spirit and rules around here.

I've posted pretty solid evidence that dregulation, did not, in fact improve the agricultural situation for New Zealand. It absolutely made a subset of corporations and mega-farmers extremely rich at the expense of the natural resources the rest of the country shares. Would LOVE to hear the arguments about how that's a good thing for the people of New Zealand or our planet as a whole.

But then again, that would require thoughtful discourse...

tw04··on Significant US farm losses persist, despite federal assistance
It would appear that to remain competitive they had massive consolidation, and with that an increase in animal density leading to major issues with water pollution.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CraFarms

So I guess yay deregulation, now with more capitalist privatized profits with socialized costs!

tw04··on Significant US farm losses persist, despite federal assistance
I wonder if at some point before large corporations finish buying up the last of the family farms in America, if rural America will figure out Trump and his maga republicans were never their friends.
tw04··on Scott Bessent calls Denmark "irrelevant", is not concerned by Treasury sell-off
I think Scott is about to find out the hard way that telling the rest of the world you don’t need them because you have a big army is a great way to find out just how much you need them.

See: Russia’s economy for reference.

tw04··on American importers and consumers bear the cost of 2025 tariffs: analysis
I thought you said she didn’t have a platform?

Now you’re criticizing her for “giving in to political resistance” - and by that you mean not getting up on stage and just knowingly and blatantly lying to the American public by claiming she would single handedly drop the price of groceries and gasoline in her first week in office while also ending the war in Ukraine?

I think you’re both moving the goal posts and claiming that the rest of us are looking for a presidential candidate that has no moral compass. I’m good.

tw04··on American importers and consumers bear the cost of 2025 tariffs: analysis
> I think she could have won if she had offered voters anything.

But she did offer voters lots of things if you spent 30 seconds listening to her and stepped out of the faux news and Twitter echo chambers.

And basically every last bit of it would’ve helped the average American. She just didn’t lie and claim she had a magic wand to fix price gouging her first week in office.

https://www.politifact.com/article/2024/sep/30/kamala-harris...

*And to be clear, it’s rather interesting that both Kamala and Hillary were blamed for “not having a platform” which seems to be the go-to for people who refuse to vote for a woman but can’t actually attack them on their platform. Just claim they don't have one or didn’t do a good enough job explaining it!

tw04··on Canada slashes 100% tariffs on Chinese EVs to 6%
This is what happens when you abandon your allies and soft power. The US is about to find out that their economy isn't capable of surviving in 2026 without the soft power they've had since WWII. Steven Miller is also about to find out that, no you can't just "take what you want" and expect the rest of the world to do nothing.

$400 where? The cheapest I've seen the kuycon 5k is $800 before shipping, and the QA has been hit and miss with users having to pay to ship it back.

It's not to say it's a bad option, but it's definitely not $400 out the door.

tw04··on Don't fall into the anti-AI hype
> The entire point is to make it public, for anyone to use however is useful to him or her

The entire point isn’t to allow a large corporation to make private projects out of your open source project for many open source licenses. It’s to ensure the works that leverage your code are open source as well. Something AI is completely ignoring using various excuses as to why their specific type of theft is ok.
