turingbook··on Dropbox’s Exodus from the Amazon Cloud

turingbook··on Alphabet Becomes the Most Valuable Public Company in the World
Actually, Larry Page himself thought from very early beginning that Google is an AI company:

AROUND 2002 I attended a small party for Google—before its IPO, when it only focused on search. I struck up a conversation with Larry Page, Google’s brilliant cofounder, who became the company’s CEO in 2011. “Larry, I still don’t get it. There are so many search companies. Web search, for free? Where does that get you?”… But Page’s reply has always stuck with me: “Oh, we’re really making an AI.”

turingbook··on GitHub Raises $250M at $2B Valuation
Can not agree with you anymore. GitHub is two things: 1. LinkedIn for Programmers, 2. Development Platform/Toolchains for Programmers.

Considering Atlassian valued at 3.3B in last round, GitHub has more potential. However, GitHub should prove itself with real money sooner or later.

turingbook··on Oracle Sales Erode as Startups Embrace Free Software
In China, there is a hot trend called de-IOE (to remove IBM,Oracle and EMC or other big foreign IT companies' technologies and products from IT systems) in enterprise IT.

Instead, we use open sources, or cloud/ X as a Service, or local technologies.

I wonder if it is the same in USA or other countries?

turingbook··on Linux 4.0
Notable features from Linux Weather Forecast by Jonathan Corbet:

- Basic support for applying patches to a running kernel, allowing the application of fixes without the need to reboot the system. There is still work to be done to get to a fully featured live-patching system, but the foundation is there in 4.0.

- The remap_file_pages() system call has been removed. Emulation of its functionality remains, though, so applications should not break.

- The kernel's support for large nonvolatile memory devices has improved considerably.

- The lazytime mount option allows for more efficient and accurate tracking of file access times.

- The kernel address sanitizer (KASan) is an important new development tool for ensuring that the kernel is not accessing memory that it shouldn't.
