turbodog··on The Microdistilling Myth
As for vodka, you can make it from pretty much any source of alcohol and have the finished product almost completely neutral. A friend took a distilling class and their demo vodka was made from cheap boxed white wine.
turbodog··on The Microdistilling Myth
It doesn't stop me (much) from enjoying this or that product, but unless I have solid evidence (i.e. the 3 microdistilleries within walking distance of my home), I assume all liquor brands are owned by a behemoth multi-national like Diageo and even if it says "since 1643" on the label that recipes/blends/ingredients are constantly tweaked to lower cost and cater to focus-grouped tested tastes.
turbodog··on Not just luck and talent: "positioning"
A nice article, yes, and +1 for mostly being about cyclocross. I presume the author isn't the guy bunny hopping barriers on the MTB...

Don't miss the response in thread from ST developer Yoz Grahame.

turbodog··on Netflix: We're Working On HTML5 Standard to Bring Streaming Video to All Devices
Amended translation: Our nervous and paranoid content provider partners upon whose good graces our entire business depends demand DRM before allowing us to deliver content to any platform.
turbodog··on BYTE, the most beloved computer-magazine brand of all, is coming back.

turbodog··on Netflix touts open source, ignores Linux
There's no good reason for Netflix to risk its business model by ruining its relationship with their nervous and twitchy content providers over fears of ZOMG NO DRM! for the sake of Watch Instantly on Linux desktops. I wish this weren't the case because that's main hole in my Linux/Boxee HTPC.

But surely Netflix knows it has to address Android (and maybe even Chrome OS) eventually. How/if they pull that off will be interesting to say the least.

turbodog··on Add Latency to Localhost
Host the app on a local Linux VM perhaps?

turbodog··on Ask HN: What is the point of Chrome's web store?
A short summary that made sense to me: http://www.somebits.com/weblog/tech/chrome-app-store.html
turbodog··on Lanyrd feeds: never miss out on a conference
Have you considered letting users subscribe to a list of topics, locations, etc. within Lanyrd and aggregating that into one feed?

update: wrote a blog entry about Lanyard with my thoughts http://www.allthingsrss.com/2010/12/07/track-conferences-soc...

turbodog··on Lanyrd feeds: never miss out on a conference
"the conference directory goes social"
turbodog··on U2's Natural Logarhythm: Exponential Decay in the Delay of The Edge's Guitar
He lost me at sentence 3: "Even before he started using a delay pedal, like on Boy".

Um, practically every U2 song ever makes heavy use of guitar delay.

turbodog··on Why startups aren’t bothering to go public anymore
"Profitable, high flying startups like Facebook and Zynga don't bother going public anymore."

Um, Facebook and Zygna aren't startups anymore. Startup != privately-held company.

turbodog··on Getting Your Startup Started With Payments
The PayPal vs. merchant account calculator was cute and well designed, except that you can't enter your own values for average transaction size and monthly volume.
