turblety··on Bose has released API docs and opened the API for its EoL SoundTouch speakers
This is amazing, and I hope this sets a precedent for other companies. Stuff like this would definitely sway my buying decision, if I know when a product becomes EOL I can tinker with it.
turblety··on Anna's Archive loses .org domain after surprise suspension
Seems like great publicity for Anna's Archive. I've heard an increasing amount about Anna's Archive over the last 12 months. It has popped up a lot. I wonder if they've seen their traffic spike a lot.
turblety··on Claude Code creator says Claude wrote all his code for the last month
I’m nearly the same. Though I do find I’m still writing code, just not the code that’s ending up in the commit. I’ll write pseudo code, example code, rough function signatures then Claude writes the rest.
turblety··on GotaTun – Mullvad's WireGuard Implementation in Rust
Yeah you are right. Can you think of any way we could capture that traffic too?
turblety··on GotaTun – Mullvad's WireGuard Implementation in Rust
Thanks chjj. Yeah it's always LD_PRELOAD. There is wireproxy [1] though that might do what you want?

turblety··on GotaTun – Mullvad's WireGuard Implementation in Rust
Nice, I love WireGuard. I ended up building WrapGuard [1] to run applications without root access to the host and choose Go to write it in. I don't really know Rust, but does it make more sense for firmware/networking type software? Is there even a difference?

turblety··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (December 2025)
I’m working on Gluze (https://gluze.com) as a choose your own adventure story builder app. Trying to build stories where the reader gets to navigated and guide the journey.
turblety··on Show HN: Choose your own adventure style Presentation
Oh, no way. This is really cool. Anything to make presentations more interactive and interesting. I like the look too.

I’m doing something similar with interactive stories [1] but where multiple trees can happen.

I wonder if you could use AI to let people explore your presentation on their own after (maybe even during the presentation).

Like, explain a slide in more detail. You put a dump of information (death by PowerPoint style stuff) then let it think up questions the guest can explore?

turblety··on Launch HN: Onyx (YC W24) – Open-source chat UI
What is it with these Chat apps having strange and not-real open source licenses? OpenWebUI is the same. Is there something about these chat apps that seems to make them more prone to weird and strange licenses? Just opportunist?
turblety··on Claude Is Down
Are you running the full 65GB model on a MacBook Pro? What tokens per second do you get? What specs? M5?
turblety··on Galaxy XR: The first Android XR headset
Yeah, fair point, although it's this Android XR thing I don't trust will live a year.

Even if it did, to me Samsung + Google is just a no go:

Samsung: Bloated with apps I don't want, can't uninstall but probably won't be killed off.

Google: Lean, not too much bloat, but can't trust it to exist more than a year.

turblety··on Galaxy XR: The first Android XR headset
I think this is really cool, and the more competition and devices in this space the better. But absolutely no way I will spend that much money for a Google product, that they'll probably kill off in less than a year.
turblety··on Imgur pulls out of UK as data watchdog threatens fine
It's clear to me, it's a huge risk for any company to allow access to UK visitors at this stage. All companies should be blocking all UK visitors. It's just too much risk for them to take.

The fault is obviously an incompetent and authoritarian UK government, but that's what the UK overlords have agreed.

turblety··on SimpleFold: Folding proteins is simpler than you think
I wonder why Apple can create a model to fold proteins, but still can't get Siri to control the phone competently? I'm not sure I agree with Apple's priorities. I guess these things are not synchronous and they can work on multiple things at a time.
turblety··on Grok 4 Fast
Why would a model called "Fast" not advertise the tokens per second speed it performs at? Is "Fast" not representing speed, but another meaning? Is it too variable?
turblety··on Show HN: I recreated Windows XP as my portfolio
The mobile experience was actually really good. Pleasantly surprised.
turblety··on Ripple – A TypeScript UI framework that takes the best of React, Solid, Svelte
What's the benefit of this, over just using proxies [1][2] to manage state? You then get to mutate objects however you want without having to use templating.

    const state = proxy({
      dur: 1,
      count: 141
    });
    const incDur = () => {++state.dur};
    const decDur = () => {--state.dur};
    const incCount = () => {
      ++state.count;
      setTimeout(incCount, 100 \* state.dur);
    };
    return (
      <div>{state.count}, {state.dur}</div>
    );
Is it specifically proxies only work on objects, and in this approach you can have direct variables?

turblety··on We should have the ability to run any code we want on hardware we own
I wish this was a higher up comment because it's such an important point, and it's totally an achievable thing.

Governments should be supporting this competition, or at the very least not encouraging monopolies/duopolies. Give loads of support/help to startups, small businesses. Let the large corps fund themselves.

But instead, we end up giving them huge tax breaks, anti-competitive legislation and even give them a voice in government.

turblety··on Is it possible to allow sideloading and keep users safe?
I think the question should be reversed. Is it possible to stay safe if you can not control the devices you supposedly own.
turblety··on Claude for Chrome
Great, another waiting list. I really wish companies would either release products or not release/talk about them. It's extremely frustrating when you read a full on marketing piece from these companies and think "I'll put aside some time later to try this out" to then be greeted with a "Join our stupid waiting list".
turblety··on Google will allow only apps from verified developers to be installed on Android
Phew! I was just about to get the new Pixel too, not going to now. I wonder if Samsung will be effected.
turblety··on MCP Gateway and Registry
We could say the same before AI, but I don't think it's true. Ignoring AI for a moment, if I look at databases as an example, there is lots of choice and competition out there:

MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, TimescaleDB, CockroachDB, YugabyteDB, Teradata, Snowflake, TiDB, SQLite, DuckDB, and more probably.

I think it's led to great choice and a great sharing of ideas. Theres also been a lot of failures too, that's true, but I'm sure some of those failures have led to a few unique features across those products too.

So now with AI, for me it's the same process, just accelerated. Yes, there is lots of junk coming out there, but I think there's lots of good too.

turblety··on MCP Gateway and Registry
Maybe romantic, that's fair. But I think a world with lots of different choices and options is far better, than one with a single few efficient/optimal solutions.

Burning money to reinvent things is fine with me if it trains people up, pays people a salary, creates some original ideas, leads to more choice in the market.

turblety··on MCP Gateway and Registry
I don't think an efficient marketplace is really a world anyone wants to live in. No one would have a job, purpose, creativity, anything really. What's the purpose if everything is efficent.
turblety··on MCP Gateway and Registry
Isn't that beautiful. True competition. Shouldn't that be how the world works, businesses too? Lots of people, trying their best to build things, and some will share ideas, some with have their own unique points.

Or do we just want CorporateSoftTM to build and own everything in just one big single commercial platform?

I would love it if loads more businesses could start up.

turblety··on Perplexity offers to buy Google Chrome for $34.5B
I'm pretty sure if Google agreed, they could come up with the money. Chrome is essentially the gateway to 90% of the world on the internet.
turblety··on Show HN: 1 Million Rows
Nice one!

Coincidentally I worked on a large table renderer too this weekend: https://github.com/markwylde/react-massive-table

I noticed you didn't quite get to a million rows. For me, it cut off at 671088.

Same thing happened when I built my one.

I came across the same thing. In the end I just manual made the rows appear at their absolute position. Seemed to work well.

turblety··on Gemini CLI GitHub Actions
> 7. Google One and Ultra plans, Gemini for Workspace plans These plans currently apply only to the use of Gemini web-based products provided by Google-based experiences (for example, the Gemini web app or the Flow video editor). These plans do not apply to the API usage which powers the Gemini CLI. Supporting these plans is under active consideration for future support.

Again, with the complicated subscription. Please just give us a monthly subscription for developers that I can pay whatever, and then use Gemini CLI, this github action, Gemini chat, Jules, etc. Just like Claude and their max subscription.

This would be a game changer for me.

Sorry, congrats on the release too. This looks cool!

turblety··on Jules, our asynchronous coding agent
Oh gees another subscription. This Google Developer Premium does look closer to something I would pay for, but really I just want something that gives me everything in a single subscription, that I can use. Like Claude, OpenAI or most other services on the planet.
turblety··on Jules, our asynchronous coding agent
Why has Google totally overcomplicated their subscription models?

Looking at "Google AI Ultra" it looks like I get this Jules thing, Gemini App, Notebook, etc. But if I want Gemini CLI, then I've got to go through the GCP hellscape of trying to create subscriptions, billing accounts then buying Google Code Assist or something, but then I can't get the Gemini app.

Then of course, this Google AI gives me YouTube Premium for some reason (no idea how that's related to anything).
