tt24··on Meta Uses A.I. Data Centers to Avoid Billions in Federal Taxes
Yes, I’d prefer a regressive tax system.

Don’t worry, you won’t be getting any of that money. It’ll be going in entirety to the utility monster (bottom quintile)
tt24··on Updated Google Maps shows destruction of the city of Rafah
So if we stopped sending money to Israel you’d stop talking about Israel and Gaza forever?

This idea that people only care about Israel because we support them with our tax dollars is such a joke

tt24··on When did Google get so weird?
You don’t have to tell me twice!
tt24··on When did Google get so weird?
Oh this is an easy one, because I care about Ukraine more than I care about a million other conflicts that may be happening in the world at the moment.

I think you’ll find that this is the case for everyone - people care about their 2 or 3 pet things and pay little attention to the distractions.

tt24··on Meta bans ads for Virginia Woolf play in Spain
To have the ability to ban Meta.

> Why meta is not fully banned in the EU is beyond me :)

It’s pretty simple - the EU is unable to produce alternatives. This is because they don’t have the software talent for it.

Any talent they do have immediately runs for the SF Bay Area of the United States at the first opportunity.

You want good alternatives to Meta’s products? Pay engineers a competitive salary.

And no, the lower cost of living doesn’t even remotely begin to make up for the difference in comp. Same with healthcare - it’s effectively free in the United States for people who have jobs, especially so for SWEs.

tt24··on ER visits for gambling disorders doubled after expanded online gambling market
> Skydiving isn't addictive

Skydiving is absolutely addictive. Adrenaline chasing is addictive behavior

> the risk falls on the participant

Same with gambling

> a skydiving company doesn't make more money from the customers it hurts

Yes they do.

It's shocking how you managed to construct the most flatly incorrect string of words ever

tt24··on ER visits for gambling disorders doubled after expanded online gambling market
That's fine that my brain chemistry is different from that of other people, but I don't see why that should prevent me from using gambling apps.
tt24··on ER visits for gambling disorders doubled after expanded online gambling market
Should we ban advertisement for skydiving and other such high risk behavior?
tt24··on ER visits for gambling disorders doubled after expanded online gambling market
I don’t see why advertisement for gambling is any more offensive than advertisement for any other form of entertainment
tt24··on ER visits for gambling disorders doubled after expanded online gambling market
Why would we do that? I’m perfectly capable of using a gambling app responsibly.
tt24··on ER visits for gambling disorders doubled after expanded online gambling market
Let me guess - because some people are unable to consume this form of entertainment responsibly, we have to make it illegal for everyone?

Makes sense. While we’re at it let’s kick the war on drugs back into high gear, reinstate prohibition, and make other higher risk behavior illegal.

tt24··on Amazon vs. Perplexity – U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit
Not sure how this applies in this context
tt24··on Claude is only available to people over 18 years
I think human therapy is a good thing despite the fact that it has caused suicides.
tt24··on Amazon vs. Perplexity – U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit
Why would they need the consent of either?
tt24··on Claude is only available to people over 18 years
Thought terminating cliche.
tt24··on Claude is only available to people over 18 years
Is your claim that human therapists have caused zero suicides? I hope not for your sake - that would be a really hard one to defend
tt24··on Claude is only available to people over 18 years
So in your example a microwave company should be held liable if someone puts a child in a microwave?
tt24··on Claude is only available to people over 18 years
Fascinating perspective - any technology that has caused >0 deaths is a dead end and has no chance of improvement.

Clearly it’s not everyone else. You can see multiple replies to my comment expressing the same frustration that I am.
tt24··on Meta new layoff goal of 60% to AI after moving 30% engineers to labelers
Why don’t we pay people to dig ditches with spoons? It would produce jobs!
tt24··on The teenage girls behind a $25 minimum wage fight in rural Alaska
Weird right? People’s brains seem to just turn off when this topic comes up. I’m used to it and even find it enjoyable at this point
tt24··on The teenage girls behind a $25 minimum wage fight in rural Alaska
Then it should be pretty easy to explain right?

I’ve seen the same reply to my comment multiple times. Each time it has nothing to do with what I said. I made no claim regarding businesses surviving or not surviving. Why do people keep replying the same thing?

> Can I assume that you're referring to the executives?

Of course not, why would I be? I don't mind if a company decides to pay their employees a lot. In fact, I'd prefer companies pay their employees a lot!
