tristan957··on New Bill Would Make All Pornography a Federal Crime in the U.S.
I have friends that think just because someone is transgender, they are a sexual deviant. I seriously don't understand people.
tristan957··on Databricks in talks to acquire startup Neon for about $1B
> Even managed databases are a scam

Just because you don't derive value out of something doesn't mean it is a scam.

tristan957··on Databricks in talks to acquire startup Neon for about $1B
Are you referring to cold start latencies?
tristan957··on Office is too slow, so Microsoft is making it load at Windows startup
A distribution that uses the Cinnamon desktop by default can be a good starting point. Linux Mint, Fedora Cinnamon Spin, etc.

Actually, a KDE Plasma desktop would also work well. I recommend the Fedora KDE Edition.

tristan957··on Office is too slow, so Microsoft is making it load at Windows startup
Assuming your apps are using the XDG desktop portal, they all use the same file picker.
tristan957··on Office is too slow, so Microsoft is making it load at Windows startup
GNOME is open to adding a system tray. There are even designs for it.

There is just no one working on the technology. TingPing, an Igalia employee and GNOME contributor, was working on a new D-Bus protocol for it, but the work stopped. There is a PR up on the freedesktop xdg-specs repository.

tristan957··on Indian court orders blocking of Proton Mail
How do you expect businesses to operate if they do not comply with legal requirements?

Proton is obligated to cooperate with authorities just like any other company. Proton has a distinction in that it also takes certain cases to court when it argues there is no legal justification.

tristan957··on Discord co-founder and CEO Jason Citron is stepping down
How can individual users fund Matrix development?
tristan957··on OpenAI wants to buy Chrome and make it an "AI-first" experience
Chrome is not FOSS. Chromium is FOSS. Chrome is a proprietary fork.
tristan957··on Supabase raises $200M Series D at $2B valuation
Most of the heavy hitters in Postgres development are already sponsored by companies to do their work. Supabase has at least one Postgres committer on staff for instance.
tristan957··on Why am I still on Twitter?
It's very hard for me to fathom why people want to be on a platform that lies about it's commitment to free speech, is pay to win, and is run by one of the worst people in the world right now.

I never had a Twitter account, so perhaps my ignorance is showing.

tristan957··on Mozilla launching “Thundermail” email service to take on Gmail, Microsoft 365
This is an announcement by MZLA Technologies, not the Mozilla Corporation. This thread is completely derailing because people do not understand the difference. Let's actually discuss the service, Thunderbird, or MZLA Technologies.
tristan957··on Mozilla launching “Thundermail” email service to take on Gmail, Microsoft 365
MZLA Technologies is separate from the Mozilla Corporation.
tristan957··on Mozilla launching “Thundermail” email service to take on Gmail, Microsoft 365
What trust issues do you have with MZLA Technologies, the organization that currently develops Thunderbird?
tristan957··on Mozilla launching “Thundermail” email service to take on Gmail, Microsoft 365
The Mozilla Corporation does not develop Thunderbird, so why even mention them in this thread. This is MZLA Technologies.
tristan957··on Mozilla launching “Thundermail” email service to take on Gmail, Microsoft 365
The Mozilla Corporation is not the organization behind this. It's MZLA Technologies, which is underneath the Mozilla Foundation.

Firefox was never going to be fully ported to Rust, at least not in any short timespan.

The amount of lies that get spread about the Mozilla Corporation and Firefox is insane. The fact that we continue to see it here in a thread about Thunderbird and MZLA Technologies is even crazier.

tristan957··on Framework 13 AMD Setup with FreeBSD
Battery life is much better recently, though I couldn't tell you why. The other day I streamed video for hours on end after starting with a full battery. That was an awesome feeling!
tristan957··on uBlock Origin is no longer available on the Chrome Store
Thunderbird is built on Firefox. Thunderbird is not nearly as big as Firefox is.
tristan957··on U.S. pauses all military aid to Ukraine
This is a false dichotomy. There is a third option: that the impeachments were right, but the American electorate didn't care.
tristan957··on U.S. pauses all military aid to Ukraine
What exactly was a sham about Trump's multiple impeachments?
tristan957··on MongoDB acquires Voyage AI
Do you mean ephemeral clients or Postgres servers?
tristan957··on Teen on Musk's DOGE team graduated from 'The Com'
I don't mean this negatively toward you in any way, but it is easy to say when you aren't in that situation.
tristan957··on Teen on Musk's DOGE team graduated from 'The Com'
USAID employees did and were fired for it.
tristan957··on POTUS Tracker – Executive Orders, Presidential Schedule, Signed Legislation
It's a "fact" sheet. Why would you not attack the facts? Seems pretty easy to prove your claims.
tristan957··on POTUS Tracker – Executive Orders, Presidential Schedule, Signed Legislation
Have you tried doing research yourself to see what the Biden Administration did?

I was able to find this article from UCSB: https://www.presidency.ucsb.edu/documents/fact-sheet-the-bid....

Hopefully, this answers your question. Probably not the best source of information since citations are not right next to claims, but most of the claims seem easy to independently verify.

tristan957··on Ghostty 1.0
Then don't use it.
tristan957··on Ghostty 1.0
You would have the same problem with Qt. You don't have the xdg-desktop-portal and an associated backend running. If you're going to build your own Linux system, you should be aware of why something is broken before making a complaint to the wrong people. In this case, you misconfigured your own system.
tristan957··on Ghostty 1.0
VSCode would switch from xterm.js to a libghostty WASM build.
tristan957··on Ghostty 1.0
GTK does not support the Wayland protocol to implement a Quake style terminal.
tristan957··on Ghostty 1.0
You are free to take libghostty and create an XApp app runtime for it, or even fork it and do what you want. Just because you don't like something does not make it worse.
