trevoranderson··on Privacy
Apple is pushing the privacy angle pretty strongly now, and I can't really blame them. It's a key differentiator between them and their chief competitor.

The phones are good on their own, but when choosing between having every action tracked and keeping some things to yourself, unsurprisingly a lot of people want privacy. Here's hoping their marketing can help ordinary people who wouldn't normally care about privacy see why it's important (and maybe score some wins for privacy at the polls in the future!)

trevoranderson··on Vimeo acquires Livestream
As far as I know, you still can't upload video to Twitch: they are focusing on livestreams. You can record your livestream, and then make it available to view, but well edited videos are rare (you'd have to make and edit the video, then stream it, then edit the VOD for length, etc)

Edit: found https://help.twitch.tv/customer/portal/articles/2577667-vide... which seems to indicate that you can upload video, but it seems to be rare on the platform compared to their bread and butter livestreams.

trevoranderson··on Gitlab 10.0 released
If you haven't tried Gitlab yet, I would give it a serious look.

You can self host it which is cool and means that if the company's funds dry up and they stops development (hopefully never), you can continue using the product. With Google Code shut down and Github losing 66 million in 9 months in 2016, it's an important question to ask about where you keep your source code.

Featurewise, I haven't noticed anything that I can't use Gitlab for that I wanted to do. The interface is still less familiar to me than Github, but that seems to be a function of it being changed relatively often as well as the time spent looking at it.

I also like how much Gitlab embraces open source. They recently acquired Gitter and will open source it. Even though I mainly just use it as an alternative to the still more popular Github, I'm considering picking up one of the Enterprise plans to help ensure the development pace continues like this!
