trequartista··on First Preview of Android N: Developer APIs and Tools
Extremely interested in the multi-window support. With phone screens getting bigger than ever, this could be a very useful feature for multi-tasking
trequartista··on Daqri Smart Helmet
I get that this provides context specific information to the wearer. But the site makes no mention of the safety aspects? In all the images, the sides of the head and the ears are totally exposed. The primary reason for wearing a helmet is safety - so some information on the safety rating and certification will help, especially for people in an industrial setting
trequartista··on Bill Gates calls for terror data debate
http://www.theverge.com/2016/2/23/11098592/bill-gates-fbi-ap... - Bill Gates says he was 'disappointed' by reports he backs FBI in Apple fight

But he doesn't fully support Apple, either

trequartista··on Netflix Shuts Down Final Bits of Own Data Center Infrastructure

Here's the link to the actual GitHub - https://github.com/Microsoft/ChakraCore
trequartista··on How the Daily Fantasy Sports Industry Turns Fans into Suckers
Here's John Oliver's take on the daily fantasy sports industry - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mq785nJ0FXQ (probably some NSFW language)
trequartista··on Sheryl Sandberg Says an MBA Doesn't Matter in Tech
This has been my experience as well - getting a deeper, business insight into the applications that I was building for my customers.

It has also helped me in one more way - getting a feel and helping me understand why my own company behaved the way it did - including business strategy, sales dynamics as well as HR policies and practices.

trequartista··on The Space Doctor’s Big Idea
I ran the entire text of this article through XKCD's simple writer tool (http://xkcd.com/simplewriter/) and it pointed out that "movement" is not among the 1000 most common English words. The word "movement" is used exactly once in this article.

So I guess this should be Theory of relativity explained using the 1000 most common English words and one additional word :)

trequartista··on Large Companies Game H-1B Visa Program
H-1B visa is a work visa and as such is not employer specific. Once you are in the US with one employer, it is very easy for you to switch companies. The new company also has to file a petition, you don't go through the lottery process (since you already have the visa). USCIS just reviews your case and approves your petition with the new employer. It takes about 4-6 weeks, but it is not too much of a hassle. Source: On an H-1B visa and have switched employers.
trequartista··on Indian Government adopts an open source policy
While this is excellent news, couldn't find answers to a few important questions:

1. Where is the source for Boss Linux. It's based on Debian, but couldn't find the link to view the source. It's all nice to talk about embracing open source, but shouldn't CDAC also publish the source for Boss Linux?

2. What is the update mechanism? How frequently will this distro be updated?

trequartista··on An Explanation of Cricket (2009)
Oh the match fixing scandals definitely did ruin the face of the game. There were other notable infamous incidents - the Rebel Series to South Africa during the 80s, the ball tampering scandal
trequartista··on An Explanation of Cricket (2009)
This is like Cricket 101 - a wonderful introduction to the rules of cricket.

However, this is from 2009 and as such slightly dated. Recent years have seen the explosion of Twenty20 (20 over games - shorter and supposedly more entertaining) as well as other innovations like Batting and Bowling powerplays and so on.

trequartista··on India (2002)
People have been talking about the "Balkanization of India" for a while now. But there are no signs of this yet. Indians have a deep rooted (albeit slightly misguided and maybe even chauvinistic) sense of patriotism.
trequartista··on How to Get Tenure
What an amazingly insightful post.

I've always wondered how people derive the internal strength to do amazing things in the face of severe personal adversity. This post addresses this in some ways.

trequartista··on The Dataflow Model: Balancing Correctness, Latency, and Cost in Data Processing [pdf]
And his work email is cloude@google.com? That is quirky
trequartista··on G is for Google
Is $GOOG going the Berkshire Hathaway route? Conglomerate with a lot of non-related subsidiaries?
trequartista··on A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, nuclear scientist and former president of India, has died
Dr. Kalam once used Yahoo! Answers to crowdsource solutions to combat terrorism - https://in.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=200701121355...

RIP.

trequartista··on A Father’s Video Game About His Son’s Terminal Cancer
Here's the Polygon article about the game, which IMHO is far more detailed - http://www.polygon.com/features/2015/4/16/8374481/that-drago...
trequartista··on Ask HN: Alternatives to HN less web-focused and more technical/professional?
I suppose Quora could have filled this niche - real people providing candid, real life answers. But for whatever reason, Quora is full of fluff and unfriendly business practices
trequartista··on Richard Feynman on the Challenger disaster (1986) [video]
At the time of his death, the following 2 quotes were found on his blackboard:

"What I cannot create, I do not understand" and right beneath this "Know how to solve every problem that has been solved".

trequartista··on The Disney Recipe (2013)
It's amazing how Disney hasn't deviated from this strategy and vision even today. If anything, the acquisitions of Marvel and Lucas Films reinforce this strategy.
trequartista··on Pluto image revealed by Nasa offers closest look yet at dwarf planet
Serious n00b question - how do spacecrafts like New Horizon transmit images back to NASA? I mean what medium of communication, what protocol etc?
trequartista··on Ask HN: Is shareware dead?
I'd say shareware still exists, except now such apps ask you to tweet about the app or post on Facebook or pin it on Pinterest.

There are plenty of apps which allow additional functionality or unlock more levels if you tweet or post about them.

trequartista··on The Rahul Yadav Story
Rahul's is the story of the quintessential silicon valley startup founder, except he's in India and these stories are novelty.

When media contacted him if his company was acquired, he reportedly said yes to 50% of the journalists and no to 50% of the journalists "to have fun" - http://indianexpress.com/article/blogs/rahul-yadavs-latest-a...

This was apparently the last of a growing list of misdemeanors. So the board of directors asked him to step down.

trequartista··on Pete Sampras: Letter to My Younger Self
Roger Federer is still playing and he has a single handed backhand and is considered by many as the greatest ever to play the game.

Having said that, I agree with your sentiment. It was a great era to watch tennis. Legends like Becker, Edberg & Lendl were fading and newer upstarts like Sampras, Courier, Agassi were coming up

trequartista··on Ask HN: What are some of the best written programming books?
Some love for - The C Programming Language - Kerninghan & Ritchie -

trequartista··on Goldman Sachs Tells Interns to End the Late, Late Show
I've seen how this works at somewhat close quarters. They are expected to shadow a manager (or their mentor or somebody senior), go to meetings, take notes, prepare presentations, revise presentations, rework presentations because their boss' boss' boss didn't like it, prepare reports for that meeting at 9am tomorrow morning.

It's essentially grind work (which also includes bringing coffee/lunch or if you really are up to it, walking the boss' dog). It makes me wonder if they ever get to learn anything at all, but I guess making presentations and creating good first impressions matter a lot in the long run. But what do I know.

trequartista··on Show HN: Retroospect – How was your work week?
I like the concept of a slider, but the descriptions associated with the points on the slider may not be too accurate. I've had the textbook definition of a meh week - could have done more and didn't learn much. I'm not sure how should I indicate this on the slider.

You should also look at building some sort of integration with Slack, so that I can look at and gauge my team's moods and progress during the week.

trequartista··on Sir Christopher Lee dies at 93
The man was making heavy metal albums in his 90s for Christ's sake - [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlemagne:_The_Omens_of_Death]

An ultimate badass. RIP
