If you're going to raise VC with the intent to sell, why even bother going opensource other than to manipulate a percentage of developers who will convert on the basis of "opensource = good".
Exactly. And that is a huge reason NOT to use VC-funded opensource.
You asshats completely altered the sentiment of the post. Original title had to do with Zoom CEO saying they are not encrypting calls on free plans so they can more easily work with the FBI.
Does the mod who made that change happen to own stock in Zoom?
You're not going to find many brand-name companies using it because the PM decision-makers at large enterprises are always going to be many years behind and going with the "safe" JS framework leader at the time.
Well-known companies currently using Svelte: Apple [1], New York Times [2], Spotify [3] and GoDaddy [4]

There are a lot of advantages, but this 5min video comparing React hooks to Svelte should be enough to trigger interest: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YtD2mWDQnxM
Holochain has no mining, no staking, no core token, no fees, no global consensus, no global ledger, it's not a platform, and there's no possibility of a 51% attack.
It's more akin to a P2P protocol/framework/pattern where users store their data and run apps locally, and where each app is its own private distributed network. Underpinning all of that are cryptographic counter-signing events and immutable hash chains.
In addition they have a parallel project called Holo (yeh confusing) that acts as an _optional_ hosting bridge for Holochain apps to offer a simple UX for normal web users. With Holo, developers can pay a distributed network of hosts in HOT (this is the coin you see on exchanges) to serve their happ/dapp like any regular website via Cloudflare DNS. No browser extensions required, nor any need to buy crypto to interact with Holochain apps. HOT for now is an ERC20 but will swap for a Holo mutual credit currency in the near future.
Sidenote: when you grasp mutual credit cryptocurrencies you'll also see all traditional cryptocurrency tokens as nothing more than speculative gambling chips.
This is a pretty good Holochain intro podcast if you're coming from the blockchain scene: https://soundcloud.com/arthurfalls/holo-mixdown
Also checkout HoloREA and REA accounting (resource-event-agent). This is a good podcast on it with some mates of mine; we all worked at ConsenSys with a longer history in Ethereum before coming to the difficult realisation that Ethereum was the perpetuation of everything wrong with the global economy: https://soundcloud.com/user-376287461/holochainpodcast-2-pos...
When you eventually grasp it, makes blockchain look like we took took a wrong turn in 2008.
Sociopaths.
Everything about the Silicon Valley VC-fueled startup culture is against the goals of humanity.
Startup culture: ignores and continues to destroy lives and planet for the profit of a few individuals who will later inevitably go on to develop mental health problems and commit suicide
I'm a big fan of consciously capping a startup to 20-100 people max. Just hire slowly and automate everything. If you don't hard cap numbers you'll inevitably end up with multiple layers of managerial hierarchy in both vertical and horizontal silos.
Switch to Holochain.
If the Twitter team go for a blockchain stack, they're doing so for the mass surveillance and control feature.
P2P is the way: see Holochain, Scuttlebutt etc.
Another huge problem are co-organisers. You bring them onboard because they're happy to take turns organising events and it takes the load off.
I never start meetups with the intention of getting a job or business opportunities, but that's often why co-organisers join. You think, sure, everyone's a volunteer so it's fine if they get something out of it.
Then years pass and those co-orgs are deeply involved to the point where their livelihoods depend on the subject matter (Ethereum in this case). And they want to keep the sales pitch lecture model, since they almost always slot themselves in as speaker when it's their turn to organise.
You suggest changing the meetup name to be less tribalistic and to change the format to drop speakers and sponsors. HUGE drama. You put it to a vote, 5-3 agree to the change. The other 3 decide to clone the meetup under the same old name, email all members telling them to join, steal the Facebook and Twitter accounts, harass me everyday for a week over Telegram until I snap, then screenshot my response and spread it through the community.
Communities man.
Though like all of these private token sales, it's a great way for crypto whales to multiply their imaginary wealth without having to exit to fiat and pay taxes.
So clearly the Catalina update requires much more free space than it says it does before allowing the installation to continue. Just poor software development and lack of testing.
Here's a Reddit thread of people with the same problem: https://www.reddit.com/r/MacOS/comments/deuwsa/help_stuck_in...
1. Download 8GB on Australian internet.
2. Wait 7 hours.
2. "Sorry there was an error".
3. Download again.
4. "You need 1GB more free space".
5. Clears 1GB of space.
6. Ok installing, restarts.
7. "You ran out of disk space". Only one button: [restart].
8. Restarts.
9. "You ran out of disk space". Only one button: [restart].
10. Search for solution, find dozens of others with the same problem. I had to do a time machine backup restore. Cleared 16GB of space and it worked.
It's absurd for 0.01% of popular, early-adopter creators to be making $millions on these platforms while 99.99% with the same output quality and skills struggle to earn enough to cover a fraction of their living costs.
But of course equal wealth distribution and commons ownership is a blindspot that the Silicon Valley sociopaths will never pursue.
