transverse··on Why you should join the .NET Core and ASP.NET Core train
You should definitely like if you want telemetry auto-reported to Microsoft for every app you make! It doesn't get any better, folks. You don't even have to consent for it. See https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=15439001
transverse··on .NET core spies on users by default
That's not for you to decide. It's meant to be the user's call.
transverse··on Wikimedia Foundation's runaway spending growth
Wikipedia should be replaced by an AI generated encyclopedia. This is the one and only answer.
transverse··on Texas Official After Harvey: The ‘Red Cross Was Not There’
The difference is that Red Cross was collecting donations left and right. Now where did my donation money to Red Cross for Harvey really go?
transverse··on HP Enterprise let Russia scrutinize cyberdefense system used by Pentagon
The real problem is that there seemingly isn't a great FOSS alternative for ArcSight. Whatever it does couldn't really be that extraordinary.
transverse··on White House wants to end Social Security numbers as a national ID
I call for a three-letter agency, the Individual Identity Agency (IIA).
transverse··on The decline of Turkish schools
Article flagged due to pay wall.
transverse··on A Google employee lives in a truck and saves 90% of his income (2015)
Diesel exhaust is never good for you. It also risks being noisy. The noise attracts unwanted attention too.

Imagine an RV with sufficient batteries that can be charged at an electric fast charging station. That's all you need, but I don't think it exists.

transverse··on A Google employee lives in a truck and saves 90% of his income (2015)
Yes, and a heated+refrigerated truck for most of the north. It would be unacceptable to have the engine running the whole time. I think it's doable in theory with a truck that has giant electric batteries, e.g. a Tesla Powerwall or two. Maybe a specialized RV cwould have it.
transverse··on A Google employee lives in a truck and saves 90% of his income (2015)
This is not so easily done in a cold or hot climate where air-conditioning or heating are needed. It is the reason why most people outside of the SV bubble can't do it.
transverse··on Sleep deprivation is increasing our risk of serious illness
Yes, but that requires more time in bed than 7h. It would require I'd say 7.5h in bed.
transverse··on Deep Learning Research and the Future of AI [video]
The future IMO is recursive meta learning. This far the max recursion depth afaik has been 1, and that's just a first step.

Also, SeLUs were supposed to be game changing. Are they, or why are they not? Why haven't they been used more? Or what's still missing?

transverse··on Water Atomization by High Magnitude Electrical Impulses

transverse··on [dead]
More paywalled garbage. Yes, NYT is paywalled after a certain low number of free articles.
transverse··on Why competition in the politics industry is failing America [pdf]
The problem is our obsolete voting system which effectively prohibits a third party from winning. Range voting does not have this problem.
transverse··on Cost of Employer-Provided Health Insurance Rises Toward $19k a Year
More paywalled crap. Don't you have a better link?
transverse··on A Coca-Cola plant in Mexico uses 1.08M liters of water per day as wells dry up
There is just no way that the ship will skip Juneau no matter what the city does. It is too important of a port.
transverse··on A Coca-Cola plant in Mexico uses 1.08M liters of water per day as wells dry up
I spent on a tour, a ride, and on beer, easily a hundred in all. There are many ways to spend.
transverse··on Bitcoin’s Wild Ride Shows the Truth: It Is Probably Worth Zero
Why link to this paywalled article?
transverse··on A Coca-Cola plant in Mexico uses 1.08M liters of water per day as wells dry up
In fairness, the cruise visitors to Juneau do spend a fair bit of money there.
transverse··on Top medical experts say we should decriminalize all drugs (2016)
Instead of drugs, I think we could ban fried chicken and watermelon exceeding a diameter of three inches. It would be more effective for the goals the government has in mind. Fried chicken is well, fried, and a large watermelon can be used to hit someone and cause head injury.
transverse··on Software Engineer, Machine Learning
I have worked 18 hour days doing software development and the costs this has on health aren't realized until later, at which point the damage can sometimes be irreversible. The workers are too naive to realize it in time.
transverse··on Scilab – Open source software for numerical computation
Also, how does it compare to http://www.sagemath.org/
transverse··on Ask HN: You have $1BN, how do you disrupt Facebook?
What a waste of a billion.
transverse··on Ports and Adapters Architecture
They must really hate classes and OOP.
transverse··on The great nutrient collapse
Well I certainly won't post it here on this terrible HN forum where people downvoted my post because it's an idea that they are not used to.
transverse··on Software Engineer, Machine Learning
This can only last a short while. In time you would have sufficiently damaged their health and wellbeing that they will stop it and curse you for it. But what do you care.
transverse··on The great nutrient collapse
This is why I take a hundred pills a day and continue making one change a week to this regimen. I still optimize my diet though.
transverse··on The great nutrient collapse
FWIW, I consider the present state of such powders to be highly deficient, but I do believe that in time and in theory they could serve as a permanent replacement for food. At minimum, the current deficiencies have to do with phytonutrients and various fibers.
