transverse··on JPMorgan's Dimon says Bitcoin 'is a fraud'
I assume the way they would do it is by investing in hedge funds or elsewhere who also invest in crypto.
transverse··on JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon says Bitcoin is a fraud that will eventually blow up
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Fractional_reserve_lendin... shows how banks effectively expand currency. It's linked in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Money_multiplier
transverse··on JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon says Bitcoin is a fraud that will eventually blow up
Don't you know how the financial system works? Banks make currency. With Bitcoin, they haven't figured out how to do the same. Their empire is in danger. His argument is predicated on the false assertion that currency has to be legally recognized; it doesn't. It only has to be accepted by those who trade with it. Not only is he bashing Bitcoin, but he is bashing all of cryptocurrency. What an idiot he is. The real fraud is perpetrated upon us by banks who lend dollars without holding hold an equal value of gold or silver. In past centuries, this was punishable as a felony by death.
transverse··on Undercover in a Toronto factory where a temp worker died
How is it not her own fault for wearing dangerous clothing (a hijab) in a factory workplace? Something as simple as long hair can be dangerous in such an environment, and a hijab or scarf is unthinkable. Darwin award.

More email harvesting garbage.
transverse··on NASA's plan to save Earth from a supervolcano
Yes, but it doesn't have to be this way. That is the whole point of the article.
transverse··on NASA's plan to save Earth from a supervolcano
Nope. Once its energy is drained, it will become dormant. This will take a lot of gradual deep drilling.
transverse··on NASA's plan to save Earth from a supervolcano
Unfortunately, any project to drain the supervolcano's energy will meet with immense resistance from various groups of humans with limited intelligence who don't realize its power and the extinction-level destruction its explosion will cause. The article lists at least two ways of safely extracting the supervolcano's power without risking the triggering of an explosion, but this won't be enough to convince the idiotic naysayers. By harnessing its energy, we can have clean energy for millennia.
transverse··on Nutritional status, brain network organization, and general intelligence
I disagree completely. Canola is easily oxidizable.
transverse··on ‘This is crazy,’ sobs Utah hospital nurse as cop arrests her for doing her job
1. He harmed her emotionally for life and ruined her spotless record.

2. No, the entire supervisory chain is to be extracted out and punished.

transverse··on Diplomats targeted in sonic weapon attacks in Cuba have suffered brain damage
I wouldn't be surprised if this was actually done by Russia to harm US-Cuba relations.
transverse··on Diplomats targeted in sonic weapon attacks in Cuba have suffered brain damage
cough Russia cough
transverse··on Sound waves enhance deep sleep and memory
By legit I mean that they don't pass off white noise or some other noise as pink noise. Try and see what works for you. There is also the YouTube Music app you probably know of that you can use to play something overnight.
transverse··on New app scans your face and tells companies whether you’re worth hiring
What makes a hire a good hire? Is a good hire one who sucks off management, or one who does the right thing even if it provokes management ire?
transverse··on Sound waves enhance deep sleep and memory
Yes, it should work but make sure the app is genuine. Really though, even a table fan works.
transverse··on China Is Trying to Give the Internet a Death Blow
What a terrible website. It's so full of ads that I couldn't even read the article. Please avoid posting links to such trashy sites.
transverse··on I'm really happy this site exists to discuss topics intelligently
Really? I find the reverse to be true. I have found it far easier to express incongruent opinions and factoids on Reddit and not get into trouble for it. Here on HN, everyone is so politically correct and expects others to be too; it's terrifying. My point again is that on Reddit, you can get away with expressing dissimilar views; this is a good thing.
transverse··on Is America Headed for a New Kind of Civil War?
It's pretty simple what the answer is. It is two territories, one exclusively for blacks, and the other exclusively for whites. The rest of the USA can stay as is. But of course, why would HN readers accept the obvious truth when it's easier to downvote and dismiss.
transverse··on Super-heatwaves of 55°C (131°F) to emerge if global warming continues
In other words, you don't deny that outlandish events do happen. Clearly we don't want them to happen. Or did you mean to throw your hands up in the air and call yourself a victim of circumstance? Not me.
transverse··on Super-heatwaves of 55°C (131°F) to emerge if global warming continues
Is it really outlandish, for example, to have claimed the Arctic ice would disappear? It has been happening and the disappearance is almost complete. I have seen glaciers break and fall into the see in my front of my very eyes.

Also, need I remind you of the planet Venus. It once had liquid water. It later became a victim of runaway climate change.

transverse··on Super-heatwaves of 55°C (131°F) to emerge if global warming continues
In another universe, I propose an AI virus that selectively destroys computers of those who are the biggest polluters. As an example, those who fly a lot definitely qualify as being big polluters. The AI virus will monitor your files and network activity, and will cast destruction upon you if it classifies you as a big contributor to global warming. Phase 2 of this AI will be adaptive in that it will use reinforcement learning to target just enough people to bring the climate to stability. If this is insufficient, phase 3 will use preemptive destruction based on forecasts of your pollution many years ahead even if you are not a big polluter to begin with.

Also in that universe, there will also be a parallel project that will be executed on cloud instances. Rowhammer and other attacks, e.g. those based on undocumented CPU instructions, will be used.

One way or another, the AI virus will defend the planet. Of course there will be some collateral damage based on misclassifications, but that's the cost of humans not taking responsibility for the planet. However bad this virus may be, it will be heaven when compared to heatwaves of 55C.

Legal Disclaimer: These ideas are fictional and are not for this universe. I don't want idiot lawyers chasing me down for having an idea.

transverse··on In a nutshell, why do a lot of developers dislike Agile?
Personally I blame Scrum or attempts at Scrum rather than Agile. Kanban is more flexible.

Effective Scrum just means sacrificing code quality sufficiently to make your ticket fit your sprint. /s

transverse··on Ask HN: Linux laptop with MacBook-like build quality
AFAIK, they intend to continue to offer Ubuntu as a choice. Their hardware is vastly superior to the garbage that is MB.
transverse··on Stacer: Linux System Optimizer and Monitoring
Looking forward to it because there are concerns that the current version on github is CPU inefficient (as you know).
transverse··on Human behavioral complexity peaks at age 25: study
I agree. It is so much easier and quicker on a smartphone though.

The survey is intentionally dumbed down so non-technical users don't have to type much. You can almost say it is geared toward the general population, many of whom use smartphones.

transverse··on Human behavioral complexity peaks at age 25: study
I am conducting a survey as a first attempt to see what's going on. If you would be so kind, please take it here:

https://j.mp/CoinFlippingSurvey

If I get about 100 more respondents, I will release the data and analysis at the same link.
