torwayburger··on Lockdowns for Thee, but Not for Me
As far as I can tell, nowhere on the site does the reasoning "therefore we shouldn't have lockdowns" actually follow from the presentation. It presents the hypocrisy and leaves it at that. Whether that is appropriate is up for debate of course, but we should be honest about what the site does and does not present, right?
torwayburger··on Lockdowns for Thee, but Not for Me
It highlights hypocrisy, practically. Whether that is an appropriate 'therefore' is debatable. Personally, I do think some form of accountability around hypocrisy is necessary in our public leaders.
torwayburger··on Call to arms: Sweden raises defense spending by 40% in 5 years
It shouldn't have to be explained at all. It makes perfect sense that the US spends money to protect itself from adversaries it shares no borders with for example. The above argument makes no sense, objectively.

Increasing number of low quality comments like this is a problem here.

I have (and love) the 4b4. I use it as a custom router/firewall at the moment.
torwayburger··on Is wind power’s future in deep water?
I think perhaps this holds for specifically climate science and the politics around it.
torwayburger··on Police killings more likely in agencies that get military gear, data shows
So it's a 5-6 month training window with a trial period upon hire (which most jobs have). That's similar to for example a Comcast installer.

I have no experience with the specific training and so on but it sounds a little short/rudimentary compared to a lot of other places.

How much training/school do US police get on average before starting their jobs?
torwayburger··on Dreading a dark winter lockdown? Think like a Norwegian
How long did you stay in Norway?

Edit: word. If you're gonna compare A to B, get some B experience...

torwayburger··on All the jobs I failed to get
I was a hiring manager in tech for many years and my impression was that talented people care, as do managers. Seems like everyone involved except the recruiter wants an optimal outcome ....
torwayburger··on Mount Everest is visible from Kathmandu for first time in living memory
Agreed. Those are non human events. I was literally referring to all the human activity that could end in extinction, though.

Sure - could it equally be argued that minds created the problems we need minds to solve? Seems circular.
torwayburger··on Mount Everest is visible from Kathmandu for first time in living memory
No evidence supports this.

Aye. I think you wrote that question with salty intent, but you're getting real answers. Hope that frames the thinking behind it for ya.
torwayburger··on David Attenborough calls for ban on deep sea mining
Seems like something one could easily look up on their own..
torwayburger··on Colorado Town Offers 1 Gbps for $60 After Years of Battling Comcast
That should mean they have public utility status, access to public poles etc. It would simplify such a solution. I've deployed such links in a flat scenario as well.

If there is some geographical last mile type issue to bring internet to these buildings that are surrounded by fiber, it could be helpful to pitch the church/hospital with a wireless link from one of the fiber pops. I have brought service to medical and hospital buildings in this way before and it's always worked out well.
