tootahe45··on GameStop Investors Who Bet Big–and Lost Big
Instead of admitting they got manipulated into a pump and dump, many will try to rationalize their loss saying things like "I'm not selling, MSM badly wants the stock to tank so the shorts get covered." (in a comment below). This is the disbelief phase.
tootahe45··on Ask HN: Why aren't you coding?
What about using vmware workstation to run a Linux VM? i find it useful to keep dev stuff separate and have a disposable OS when i install too much junk.
tootahe45··on Twitter permanently bans Project Veritas account
Looks like selective enforcement.
tootahe45··on Tesla buys $1.5B in Bitcoin, may accept it as payment in the future
Reddit had a breakthrough innovation recently in the form of sh!tcoin (MOON token) built on ethereum that allows you to gift people 'moon points' or something by up-voting their comment. Still scratching my head as to why this required blockchain.
tootahe45··on Tesla buys $1.5B in Bitcoin, may accept it as payment in the future
Maybe things are different in America than they are here in NZ, but I don't think it's only the price of BTC rising. Having house prices rise 20% in a single year definitely screwed me over here.
tootahe45··on Linux Foundation, IBM, Cisco and Others Back ‘Inclusive Naming Initiative’
People too lazy learn coding still running rampant in big tech. I thought the creation of jobs like 'agile manager' would've kept these people occupied.
tootahe45··on Deutsche Bank calls for a 5% 'privilege' tax on people working from home
So they will be using less roads, healthcare, etc, but paying more tax?

Europe has a serious collectivism problem.

tootahe45··on Ask HN: Instead of picking a party, why can’t we vote on issues
Because then people will have to find hobbies and the recreational panic industry will go out of business?
tootahe45··on Georgia election official: Machine glitch caused by last-minute vendor upload
Because vote tampering is a partisan issue.
tootahe45··on Windows 7 won't die, still second most popular operating system
Can you explain?
tootahe45··on Facebook Q3 2020
> to maximise wealth, they re-invest.

Creating more jobs, total assholes really.

tootahe45··on Coinbase Card
The cybercrims don't actually believe this, and need off-ramps to get out of crypto. They are willing to pay high fees for this, and often hold confiscatable stablecoins over btc.
tootahe45··on Coinbase Card
Wasn;t there a day where zcash had only 2 transactions total? these anon coins suffer from their very small user-base.
tootahe45··on U.S. government budget ends fiscal year with a more than $3T deficit
I'm getting bombarded with articles about people fleeing high tax states with out of control, ineffective govts. Can you explain which part isn't working? i've been under the assumption that state competition is one of the best parts about the US.
tootahe45··on San Francisco Apartment Rents Crater Up to 31%, Most in U.S.
If remote was the best (most profitable) way to do things, companies would've figured this out well before COVID.
tootahe45··on IBM is splitting itself into two public companies
It seems smarter to focus on something the top tech companies aren't all focusing on, especially when you were late to the game and others have better engineering teams. There will probably only be a few winners in the cloud wars..
tootahe45··on Trump administration announces overhaul of H1B visa program requiring higher pay
As a New Zealander, this level of pay just baffles me. Is the US the only place where SWE's get paid well compared to other professions?
tootahe45··on Employees at Top Tech Companies Contributed 20x More Money to Biden Than Trump
The numbers seem quite low here, i'm willing to bet if you audited democrat proxy orgs like BLM the numbers would be much higher.

I'm quite certain money changes very little during this election, though.

tootahe45··on The internet needs our love
Is there not a corporate version of 'imma pay you $100 to f*ck off' for removing these kind of CEOs?
tootahe45··on US college enrollments are falling, except for graduate degrees
Because the apprentice watching you hammer in a nail is not producing $25/hr (or what ever the min wage happens to be). Add on all the ways that employees can screw your business over without the ability to get rid of them and you get the piecemeal training systems we have today.
tootahe45··on Daniel Ek commits to investing €1B in European ”moonshots”
> You have to take into account that cost of healthcare

You literally don't, since companies provide this. Unless of course you're accounting for the better healthcare you'd receive in the US?

> cost of living

Where most IT jobs are based in europe it isn't cheap to live at all..

tootahe45··on Nearly 90 Percent of NYC Restaurants and Bars Couldn't Pay Full Rent in August
If you're allowed by law to not pay rent it makes sense to structure your finances so you can't.
tootahe45··on Facebook Says It Will Stop Operating in Europe If Regulators Don’t Back Down
Why not do it then? if you're scrambling hard for some tax scraps surely it would be more viable to 'just create the next fb' if you could.
tootahe45··on 62% Say the Political Climate Prevents Them from Sharing Political Views
And the remaining 'anonymous' sites like Reddit will shadow ban you at -10 karma or so, so it's completely pointless posting anything controversial.
tootahe45··on 62% Say the Political Climate Prevents Them from Sharing Political Views
Even on anonymous forums i've stopped sharing them for this reason, as well as the fact that at a quite small amount of negative karma your account gets shadow banned (Reddit). +It gets tedious on the 7th account created.
tootahe45··on Free Speech Champion Mark Zuckerberg Announces Plan to Censor His Employees
You have an endless number of outlets to organize and discuss your political views in 2020. Any political discussion at work is likely to be of low value anyway due to one-sidedness, which stems from the high-risk nature of presenting out-of-line views with one's primary income at stake.

It's very well documented that some people in high places can't control their emotions when it comes to politics (im thinking of the video where google execs are crying about Trump's election, which is always hard to find on Google for some reason). I would not be comfortable sharing my views at the Google (if i had any). I'd probably dye my hair pink and buy those thick-rimmed glasses to avoid raising suspicion that i might be apolitical.

tootahe45··on Airtable raises $185M and launches new low-code and automation features
$2.585 billion for a spread sheet company? yikes
tootahe45··on The IRS Is Offering You $625,000 to Crack Monero
This seems quite low for the amount of criminal activity to be exposed. You'd also have a monopoly on the crack so it's not like you're just going to accept the set price.
tootahe45··on Impossible Foods raises $200M in fresh funding
Animals aren't farmed to make your chicken nuggets. It's a byproduct of using the whole animal, including parts that aren't quality cuts (most of the animal in some cases).
tootahe45··on Why are there so few black tech entrepreneurs?
I've pointed this out for the women in tech debate. Probably 3 of the 30 or so CS students were women here.

So the question becomes why do blacks and women want tech jobs without becoming qualified for said tech jobs? or do they even want tech jobs in the first place? is it just someone else who wants them to have tech jobs?
