tomaspiaggio12··on [dead]
I'm a two time founder and both times I ended up winding the company down. These are some of my honest feelings and I wanted to share them. I'd love to know if they're shared by other founders.
tomaspiaggio12··on Uber, Lyft drivers in Massachusetts form first US ride-share union
i'm so ready for fully self driving to take over
tomaspiaggio12··on Ferrari Luce
458/488 was peak ferrari IMO
tomaspiaggio12··on Serving a website on a Raspberry Pi Zero running in RAM
maybe i'm being stupid, but what's the complexity behind this? why is this exciting? is it because it's running on memory or because it's running on the pi? i find this trivial unless you're a new engineer.

for the ones that say that the pi can't handle tls that's just stupid. that's trivial as well.

for the ones saying that you need a vps how cloud native are you people? you can just expose a port on your router (if you're brave enough) and have any dynamic dns service point to the correct ip address.

tomaspiaggio12··on Ask HN: How to solve the cold start problem for a two-sided marketplace?
you should read the cold start problem (book). it talks a bunch about how uber, airbnb, zoom, github, dropbox solved the cold start problem in different ways. super interesting and well explained.

in two words, two sided networks usually have a "hard part". in the case of uber, the drivers. in your case, i'd probably "do things that don't scale" like brian chesky did with airbnb, start with a super small location (probably where you live) and drive yourself / your cofounders / friends all the packages until people know the product works.

usually, with cold start products, you have to solve it many times in many locations. you can't do it worldwide day one.

tomaspiaggio12··on All phones sold in the EU to have replaceable batteries from 2027
This is idiotic. What's next, disallowing unified memory or SoC with packaged memory? These people think they know better than world experts on these matters.
tomaspiaggio12··on Mozilla Thunderbolt
mozilla employs 750 people and has a 1/2Bn dollar deal with Google and still their browser is absolute hot garbage. i think volunteering won't cut it.
tomaspiaggio12··on Specialization Is Dead. Long Live the Generalists
I go more in depth in the article. But I believe that specialization lost its value. Today is more valuable to be a generalist than a specialist since you can get better than most people by using AI.

mcp will probably be left behind in the future. it was a bad design from the start. anthropic themselves released skills to "fix" the mcp mess. skills are very new but the idea is great. we still are early days but i think it could allow models to use tools more effectively.

we're planning to add an installation step + auth step (which many of the skills require) so that that part get's handled in one single step instead of having to do everything manually

tomaspiaggio12··on Dockerhub for Skill.md
it's basically a cli for controlling a browser. the idea is that an agent like claude code would use it for validating something that it just did like changing something on the UI
tomaspiaggio12··on Dockerhub for Skill.md
i thought of that but i didn't want to build a job to migrate that to the db. maybe we'll go that route.
