tolqen··on An SSL cert that is valid for any and all domains and all levels of subdomains
> I've intentionally not linked these because burdening the relatively heavyweight source viewers with idle HN readers who are mostly going to glaze over and not read once they discover it's tricky C++ code seems unfair

Seems like a good use case for linking to their respective GitHub mirrors

tolqen··on Wisconsin Supreme Court strikes down stay-at-home order that closed businesses
> For example, in the UK our right-wing party is currently in power, which means that arguments that their lockdown rules are illegitimate and exceed their powers mostly come from supporters of the other, left-wing party. The justifications for why they're exceeding their powers actually look similar in many ways to the ones in this lawsuit.

Not convinced you’ve even been following British politics then. The main criticism coming from Starmer is about late decision making and inaction. I haven’t heard anything about abuse of powers or a clamour to reopen from them.

tolqen··on Show HN: Lite – A small, fast text editor
it seems to compile/run fine for me on catalina but everything is absolutely huge (hidpi compatibility issues?)
tolqen··on Orca: an esolang for audio-visual live coding
At what point will it be “is not GitHub, GitLab, or SourceHut”
tolqen··on The 2020 iPhone SE
I've never had an issue with pocketability even with the largest phones on the market. I don't really understand the problem. Do you have really tiny pockets?
tolqen··on Running postmarketOS on iPhone 7
Newsflash: the Mac is currently quite successful.
tolqen··on Cats, lasers and Raspberry Pi
In fairness the Raspberry Pi is only $5 so it’s not like it’s a huge deal
tolqen··on Barr Urges US to Buy Stakes in Ericsson and Nokia to Compete with Huawei
In my opinion it is a mistake to thinks that to compete with China we need to become China. It would benefit us greatly in the long run to figure out and fix whatever problems in the market are preventing more companies from competing in this space.
tolqen··on iOS 13's Music App Sucks
Library, Radio, Search
tolqen··on I've been working on X11 on jailbroken iOS
A bootrom exploit has been found that works on all pre-2019 iOS devices.
tolqen··on Ask HN: Is it worth it to move to London as a SWE?
> expensive, bureaucracy, not so good transport

Compared to where exactly?

tolqen··on EU beckons Indian tech talent
you've got some advanced lump of labour nonsense going on here
tolqen··on Uber loses licence to operate in London, will still operate while appealing
What you said was correct a year ago but Kapten and Bolt exist now, they’re often the same fare or cheaper than Uber.
tolqen··on Disable new Slack WYSIWYG editor with this bookmarklet
You should be able to press Cmd+Shift+I and open the developer console.
tolqen··on قلب: a non-ASCII programming language written in Arabic
That sounds a lot like Logo
tolqen··on Why iOS 13 and Catalina Are So Buggy
It’s not Messages only, WhatsApp just hasn’t implemented it yet.
tolqen··on Why iOS 13 and Catalina Are So Buggy
> At least it’s not suggesting messenger contacts from other apps that I contacted literally once ever 3 years ago.

Only because none of the messaging apps have implemented it yet. As someone who uses their phone for messaging 70% of the time, I actually missed it from Android and am happy to see it come to iOS.

tolqen··on Dramatically reduced power usage in Firefox 70 on macOS with Core Animation
Right, they’re working to bring the old non-Chromium Edge’s efficiency to Chromium for the new Edge.
tolqen··on The New iPhone Is Ugly
This is an incredibly silly article.

> And amazingly, due to being made of actual metal, the more drops an SE survives, the cooler it looks

Is steel not real metal anymore?

tolqen··on Improving Form Controls in Microsoft Edge and Chromium
I'm fairly sure even Android has abandoned this type of time picker
tolqen··on Apple of 2019 is the Linux of 2000
All current MPBs have a Touch Bar. Apple no longer sells any without one.
tolqen··on White House Weighs Limits on U.S. Portfolio Flows Into China
> I know the argument is that Chinese companies are just an extension of the state, but you could say the same in reverse about the U.S

What

tolqen··on Bird – Internet Routing Daemon
Yeah, that's what I was thinking. To me the computing power and the software support makes it better than a lot of the alternatives, and I don't see anything more powerful without going x86.
tolqen··on Bird – Internet Routing Daemon
Do you have any suggestions? I'm in the market for something like this at the moment.
tolqen··on Bird – Internet Routing Daemon
Their website says "1.6 GHz dual-core ARM", which sounds decidedly more powerful than an iPhone 3G
tolqen··on Apple in Advanced Talks to Buy Intel’s Smartphone-Modem Chip Business
Nobody except Apple bought the Intel parts anyway (possibly because they were absolute flaming garbage relative to Qualcomm’s products), which is why we’re in this position in the first place.
tolqen··on Galileo navigation system facing service degradation or loss of signal
That frequency not being the same as the one used by the US’s own GNSS system enabling them to block it without blocking their own service.
