toldyouso2022··on Ask HN: How to regain the ability to read with focus and learn
Read something that actually interests you and you like. Choose to start with something short so you get over your anxiety, because I suspect there is an anxiety component.
toldyouso2022··on Ask HN: Is anyone still programming the old-fashioned way (without LLMs)?
I've been without work for over a year now so I'm still programming the classic way and using ai chats in the browser. When I'll work again I'll use them. I think the best thing to do is separate programming for work and pleasure.
toldyouso2022··on Ask HN: What are some good resources for coding best practices?
Check out https://refactoring.guru/
toldyouso2022··on Ask HN: Almost a thousand dollars for a 20 minute new patient visit?
I can't believe so many people on HN think that healthcare in the US is under the free market. Lol. For starter, can you cure a person if you're not part of the AMA cartel? You can't, the State will ruin you. Can you open an hospital without being allowed by other hospitals, your competition? In many States you can't. If you find and innovative way to organize labor, can you test it? Nope. Just the first few things that come to mind.

Healthcare in the US is much less free market than in European countries like Italy, and these are the results.

But it's amazing that people on HN din't see it, what happened to this place?

toldyouso2022··on Ask HN: Sold my company, parents passed away – feeling lost. What now?
You are mourning your parents, your company and maybe you are mourning having to work towards something, maybe even mourning the financial worry itself.

Thing with mourning is that now things seem to be over but they will start again eventually. It's all about time. Also I'm sorry you feel alone, I hope you'll find a way to manage that.

Good luck

toldyouso2022··on Ask HN: What Did You Learn Too Late in Your Tech Career?
Great article, I never find articles interesting anymore (it's on me for sure) so it was nice to enjoy reading after so long. Thanks for posting it
toldyouso2022··on Why does every site's search now insist on giving me what I don't search for?
Doing guesswork of course, they would rather you get what they want but also they probably don't know how to fix it and make it deterministic again
toldyouso2022··on Ask HN: Why are there so few Flutter jobs? Should I switch to React?
picking up another framework can be painful, but react is very popular so it has many good resources. Also make sure you learn the underlying language first, you may think you understand it enough but you probably don't and it will slow you down.
toldyouso2022··on Tell HN: Brother printers no longer consumer friendly
I have a brother printer + scanner from 2016, because it's out of ink the scanner doesn't work.

Very bad thing to do to clients

toldyouso2022··on Freelancing: How I found clients, part 1
The problem is that the outcome, what clients want, it's often mot clear, changes, sometimes depends on other people in the client's org, etc and it's a mess to have a fixed price contract in these cases
toldyouso2022··on Any social platforms not focused on algorithms?
4chan and imageboards in general
toldyouso2022··on Ask HN: Solo developer building a product? Show us your work and get feedback
I'm now receiving them, adding this message to not hinder your site in case someone reads this still post.

Great service btw

toldyouso2022··on Ask HN: Solo developer building a product? Show us your work and get feedback
Are you still sending the emails?

I have no antispam but I haven't received any

toldyouso2022··on Ask HN: Solo developer building a product? Show us your work and get feedback
I wanted to build something like this, you managed to make the ux 10 times more awesome than I could have imagined, well done
toldyouso2022··on Meta scrapped factcheckers because systems were 'too complex'
I see a lot of memes on Facebook that would have been a sure ban last year now being promoted by the fb algorithm.

Rulers are changing, companies will change. And maybe people like Zuckerberg are really changing their opinions too. Who knows

toldyouso2022··on Google, the search engine that's forgotten how to search
Blogs don't get indexed, also users are pavlovianly trained into associating visiting a website with cookie consent molestation
toldyouso2022··on Ask HN: Who needs help this holidays?
Thank you for the help, I really appreciate it. I wish for you to find the mentorship you're looking for
toldyouso2022··on Ask HN: Those making $500/month on side projects in 2024 – Show and tell
How does one even find tech writing jobs?
toldyouso2022··on Ask HN: Who needs help this holidays?
That's very generous, thank you so much
toldyouso2022··on Ask HN: Who needs help this holidays?
I feel I'm gonna puke writing this message. Me and my mother both have no income except some government welfare which is subject to many variables (previous month 220 euro, this month 500 euro). My mother has been put on a list to get eye surgery so she can hopefully regain sight in her left eye after many years. The surgery is paid by the State but she will have to go to another city which is far away. We don' know when she will be called so we can't pre-plan the travel to get better deals. 300euro may help us cover the bus and one night at the hotel.

Any help would go a long way https://paypal.me/oghionna

toldyouso2022··on The ACF plugin on the WordPress directory has been taken over by WordPress.org
I Left wp development when gutenberg came out, it was clear that things would have turned for the worse. Since then basically no new features only new bugs on an editor the majority didn't want and still doesn't. Now this. It feels good to be right and see things turned even worse than expected but what a waste. Wp could have improved so much and done so much more for entrepreneurs and startups. Instead they are stuck in 2018
toldyouso2022··on Ask HN: Why Isn't Elixir More Popular?
Good news, I really want elixir to become popular and improve the dev experience
toldyouso2022··on Ask HN: Why Isn't Elixir More Popular?
Used elixir a few years ago for tutorials and such, worked fine.

Tried to use it again in 2023, vscode extension would break. Tried on 2 windows machine and one linux machine, exetension always broke.

I then figured out why (I don't remember the exact reason, it was one of those "yeah I can see why it didn't work and it's my fault but it kinda isn't really" situations) but at that point I was done because I had better stuff to do.

Point being, if you want your stuff to be adopted make sure the tooling is noob friendly. The noobs of today can be the professionals of tomorrow.

Especially today when there is so much stuff to learn and elixir is so far from the usual and requires a certain time investment

toldyouso2022··on Ask HN: What reasonable person would work as a founding engineer?
No self-esteem. Having been propagandized by people close to him that he can only get crap work. Trauma.

Same reason freelancers get bad clients. Don't ask me how I know.

toldyouso2022··on Ask HN: What are some essays that profoundly changed the way you think
Profit and Loss by Mises made me realize that the reason the free market works is akin to natural selection. It's not even the main point of the essay. Anyway it's great and a short read, also free

toldyouso2022··on U.S. Athletes Are Taking Full Advantage of Free Healthcare in Olympic Village
Too many people, not enough healthcare resources

It's funny because with healthcare the US it's actually making people see the price, a price in numbers, of healthcare when it's under a government monopoly.

In they EU they put caps everywhere so you can't know the price society is paying for not having a free market in healthcare (but also the EU has a tiny bit more free market in healthcare than the US anyway so)

toldyouso2022··on Every company should be owned by its employees
Uuuh no thanks, I want to be paid now whether things work out or not
toldyouso2022··on Siblings miss crucial life-extending treatment because of CrowdStrike outage
Because the law doesn't want to do its job anymore, so it created useless bureaucracy to make their lives easier and human life hell
toldyouso2022··on For advertising, Firefox now collects user data by default
Spyware is illegal. Jail all CEOs, managers, engineers that worked on spying features at google, ms, etc

They are repleaceble and next gen will not dare to spy on users.

Fines are stupid and don't work anyway.

This is in full compliance with the democratic process, judicial tradition, etc so I'm not ranting, instead it is that we have been so removed by the idea of punishing the actual people that do actual crimes just because they work in megacorps that any suggestion to do so sounds like a commie rant.
