I've seen companies go from doing everything in house to outsourcing everything. It was ugly before covid, but now it might be sinking the ship. They used to retain the necessary talent, keep a stock of necessary $THING, and get things done on time and on budget. Now the MBA's see a way to cut costs on paper but it all ends up late and over budget. On to the next ship for them after this top heavy piece of shit sinks.

...and qualified immunity really needs to be gotten rid of, at least in its current form. there's no reason why a cop having a bad day should be able to ruin your life. also consider that as an citizen that's probably untrained in firearm use, you're liable for stray bullets that hit your neighbor when you shoot at a home intruder, while a cop is trained and on the clock, but has no such liability at all.

Yeah it's probably not so rare. The errors in this case never fall on the side of false positive, and it's impossible they caught every breakthrough case. It follows that there are more breakthrough cases than what's reported. The point of contention is by what margin the CDC is off.

If you really want to embiggen the problem, ask yourself how many people got covid but never got tested. The rate of mild infection is probably a lot higher than reported because only people with anxiety and/or serious covid bothered to get tested or hospitalized. Everyone else called in sick or didn't know/care.
