pound for pound, solar power is much cheaper. you cant disregard the weight considerations of a thermoelectric generator

I stand corrected
toddmatthews··on Introducing the Photon
Correct me if I'm wrong, but this is similar to the Electric Imp in that you have to connect via their cloud service (you can not just make requests directly to any web endpoint). While this might be cheap, and great for prototyping, I dont want to build on top of something that locks me into your cloud service. They get you to buy a cheap piece (pricepoint) of hardware, but then you have to pay them to connect.

I'd rather use an RaspberryPi or Arduino Yun. While more expensive up front, they allow you to connect to any service you would like.

"AWS is not the best product at anything – most of their features are mediocre knock offs of other products."

Does not list a single example.

In the United States, the Congress is prohibited from passing ex post facto laws by clause 3 of Article I, Section 9 of the United States Constitution.

You seem to keep using examples with friends or buddies, and no one is gonna fault you for sharing a link to your buddies site from your site, especially if you say "Here's my buddies/friends site...you should check them out"..thats genuine

the problem here is they are/were promoting a campaign in which they were asking you to specifically place "beiber" links on your blog, so that they get better page ranks in google.

you and you're buddy (or even a celebrity helping out their friend for free) are trying to share a particular link with your blogs viewers, and that single instance will probably not have a crazy effect on google page rank

RG is trying to game the system by getting bieber backlinks on a bunch of blogs in trade for a tweet...thats against googles rules

toddmatthews··on Wireless HDMI for Everyone
I have Chromecast, and love it for what it is. But it is very much tied to the wifi network it is on. You could not just walk into a conference room and plug it into the TV and go, it would take a little bit of time to setup. Assuming I had the software installed on my computer for wifitame, it seems like it is designed to be a little bit more mobile.

>converting people from free to paid without their explicit approval

they did not convert people to paid members, they renewed existing memberships for people who had not been been notified of changes to policies of the membership.

I'm not a rails guy....why does something so cool looking have to be so closely coupled to a rails backend?
toddmatthews··on Don't Buy the Snake Oil of Beamr Video
From Beamr's site "Beamr Video is capable of reducing the bitrate of H.264 video streams by up to 75% (4X), while preserving their visual quality."

sounds like they are claiming to work wonders on your bitrate. I think Diaz just pointed out that these claims are dubious at best
