toasty228··on GPT 6.1 Sol: Near-Astra intelligence for a fifth of the price
Implying they don't have like 3 or 4 "models" (different quants, post training, plain renaming) on the back burner at any point in time to do exactly that
toasty228··on GPT 6.1 Sol: Near-Astra intelligence for a fifth of the price
Opus 5.5 is better than they anticipated, it's faster, smarter, cheaper. I'm about to change provider for claude and I'm not the only one
toasty228··on GPT 6.1 Sol: Near-Astra intelligence for a fifth of the price
Try it, it's that good compared to openai current offering.

I get better results and usage our of my $20 claude sub than my $100 openai sub... it's that ridiculous

toasty228··on 1 in 8 cancer cases worldwide are caused by infections, study finds
A significant part of the insignificant part yes, just don't be fat, don't drink and eat clean, that plays a much larger role than luck
toasty228··on Where's the "Intelligence Explosion"?
Pet theory: 70% of what we're busy with brings no value outside of keeping people busy/employed, which means automating it and making it 100x faster also brings no value in the end, no matter how much "intelligence" you can deploy
toasty228··on 1 in 8 cancer cases worldwide are caused by infections, study finds
We're saying the same thing yes... and both websites too

> If someone came out with a drug to reduce cancers across the board by 5-10% there would be talk at the Nobel commitee.

I have one, stop drinking, where is my nobel?

toasty228··on 1 in 8 cancer cases worldwide are caused by infections, study finds
> And gentics.

Really no, not that many, 5-10% estimated. And I'd not be surprised if a lot of the "everyone in the family get cancers" aren't environmental either (factory next door, working in a field using chemicals, etc.)

toasty228··on 1 in 8 cancer cases worldwide are caused by infections, study finds
Yeah that's the "other" part in "environmental".

> hereditary and environmental/lifestyle.

Unless you can demonstrate supernatural causes these are the only two broad categories you need. It's either coming from inside (genes) or outside (diet, random neutrino bit flipping your shit, smoking, x-rays, etc.).

toasty228··on 1 in 8 cancer cases worldwide are caused by infections, study finds
Would he have had a better time at 45 not seing you growing and missing 35 years of life?

I'm not saying it's good to get cancer when you're old, I'm just saying if you had the choice no one would chose to get it earlier.

toasty228··on 1 in 8 cancer cases worldwide are caused by infections, study finds
It's also important to note that getting a random cancer at 80+ sucks orders of magnitude less than going out at 45 from colon or throat cancer in every measurable metrics you can come up.

https://www.oatext.com/which-environment-makes-cancer.php

Always a good read, most cancers are environmental, and most of these are caused by obesity, bad diet and smoking/drinking, fix these four things in your life and you reduce your chances of getting cancer by 50%+

Is it? The artificial analysis "price to run intelligence index" is almost 4x cheaper with Luna than deepseek

toasty228··on Sonnet 5.5
Never heard about anyone using google sheets and docs for messaging, email, presentations, etc.
toasty228··on Sonnet 5.5
I don't know a single company using deepseek internally in any capacity, and I have friends in a lot of tech/tech heavy companies, virtually all of them use claude, the lucky ones get cursor with claude/chatgpt/grok.
toasty228··on Sonnet 5.5
I can guarantee you 80% of people will call any llm "a chatgpt", most have never heard of claude, even less of opus, or sonnet, "deepseek" probably reminds them of a brand of toothpaste or something like that, "GLM" might make them think of the new mercedes SUV perhaps. 99.9% will never self host, nor send a single sent to a chinese model provider.

> American AI lost the game already, people just can't see it.

Microsoft has been releasing dog shit insanely overpriced software with decent alternatives for decades and is still used in every single company I work for or with.

Your take is the "current year is the year of the linux desktop" meme of "ai"

This specific point sure, the rest not really. Peetrol is like 50x more energy dense than common batteries for example. Peak sun doesn't coincide with peak demand at all, it's a pain in the ass to store long term, it's unreliable when you need it the most, it's not as easy to transform into fertilizers/plastics/medicine

It is a form of distillation, as long as you're working a very narrow "trivial" topics it works perfectly.

toasty228··on ASML says it sold 'absolutely nothing' in Europe in 2026
Oh they're not fake, the factors used to infer the "value" added for each are totally fake though.

1k of produced steel is 1kg of produced steel, no matter how you look at it.

How much value does illegal prostitution brings to you country though? Someone had to come up with a number apparently

toasty228··on ASML says it sold 'absolutely nothing' in Europe in 2026
> All that is historically true, but most new energy being added to the grid is now renewable

Cool, "added" is doing a lot of work here. We're still mostly relying on fossils, about ~70% of our mix.

> Solar and batteries continue to get cheaper

Bonus question: how much does it cost to build a solar panel or wind mill when fossils get 2x, 5x, 10x more expensive? When we run our of fossils?

toasty228··on ASML says it sold 'absolutely nothing' in Europe in 2026
It's a fraction of what it would have cost us to make the oil itself, like not even close
toasty228··on ASML says it sold 'absolutely nothing' in Europe in 2026
15% of the french gdp comes from rent, which basically did +30% over the last 10 years, that alone is ~0.4% of annual growth according to the official numbers... 1/3rd of the "growth" is rental inflation...

What value was added here? None, gdp is meaningless in post industrial countries, it wasn't designed to measure anything other than industrial outputs.

toasty228··on ASML says it sold 'absolutely nothing' in Europe in 2026
In France at least: amount of freight, sqm of new buildings, industrial production, primary energy consumption, etc, basically all the physical things you can actually measure, etc.

Then you add in "services" and "assets growth" to cook the numbers (don't forget to incldue illegal drug trafficking and illegal prostitutions numbers to jack things up even more even though you have no real data about it), and magically everything in the the green, although pensions are decreasing, retirement age is increasing, social benefits are being cut left and right, but don't worry brother, we're in the green!
