Multiple things can be true at once, he can be wildly successful while also undermining democracy.
toader··on Grok 4.7
How anyone that values democracy in the United States could support any of Elon's ventures is difficult to understand.
toader··on Show HN: I built a new version of my fun spatial 3D online meeting app
Are developers still in denial about the capabilities of coding agents, "vibecoded mess under the hood or not"? If the application works, do you think most users are thinking about the code quality?

Fair enough...meandering prose with minimal punctuation.

Ok... "Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Rob Morgan, Jonah Hill, Mark Rylance, Tyler Perry, Timothée Chalamet, Ron Perlman, Ariana Grande, Kid Cudi, Cate Blanchett, and Meryl Streep"
toader··on The Strongest El Niño Ever Forecast and the Hunger It Will Leave Behind
Timothée Chalamet is in Dune and is a dual US / French citizen, born in NYC. I'm not sure 'because people are not ready to hear what's coming' is why the movie performed poorly in the box office but interesting speculation.

Awfully broad stroke assertion of an entire country of authors. The prose of Ernest Hemingway, Cormac McCarthy and Kurt Vonnegut contradict your comment. Which countries are known for their concise use of language in storytelling?

Dear Meta,

Please go away. Most of us were and will be better off with you.

If YOU'RE going to be snarky at least use proper grammar.
toader··on Netflix employee fired for sharing personal details in retreat trust exercise
Sounds like a potential HR nightmare.
toader··on Show HN: CheapFoodMap – A map of good meals under $10
The word "cheap" while by definition means low quality is used in place of "inexpensive" most of the time in casual language, at least in the United States, and understood to mean low cost not low quality. I for one read the URL to mean inexpensive. Not that there aren't more appropriate URLs.
toader··on Why Are Gay Bars Building Databases of Their Patrons?
"Most"? Recorded how? Persistent surveillance? I don't buy it.
toader··on Why a $154B CEO just endorsed stripping most Americans of voting rights
Ah, a German Canadian endorsing changes to the U.S. taxation system.

How should the search box respond to a search of Las Vegas, NV or San Antonio, TX? I'm not getting any response.

If you're curious where many of the Automated License Plate Readers are located, this site is interesting. The collection is certainly not limited to areas near the southern border.

toader··on That Secret Service SIM farm story is bogus
Is it a fair accusation that the "NYTimes is lying"? That seems to imply they are complicit in a propaganda campaign with the government, which seems unlikely.

> "It's debatable in every aspect" -- A business creates a product. They offer the product to consumers for a price. If you take the product without paying, you are stealing. Seems straightforward to me.
toader··on 12ft.io Taken Down
Sure, if you hear or see something in a public space, but don't you agree that deliberately bypassing their means of protecting their IP is theft?
toader··on 12ft.io Taken Down
Then just say you're a thief, no need to pretend there is any other issue than you are OK with stealing when you deem a companies practices to be disagreeable to your own.
toader··on 12ft.io Taken Down
So you value their content but plan to continue stealing it and jeopardize their ability to remain financially solvent?
toader··on 12ft.io Taken Down
I don't have the context to comment on the interpersonal skills of the media outlet. If the price is $30 after the introductory price, then the price is $30. You disagreeing with the price or their sales tactic doesn't entitle you to steal their content.
toader··on 12ft.io Taken Down
If you created software and sold a license for it, and I pirated it, would that be acceptable? They create a product, set the price, you choose to pay or not.
toader··on 12ft.io Taken Down
Exactly. Why this is such a difficult concept to grasp? They create a product, set a price, you choose to subscribe or not. If you created licensed software and someone pirated it, are you agreeable to that?
toader··on 12ft.io Taken Down
Do you think they have to raise their subscription prices because many people are stealing the content?
