to··on Ever wonder what Google's Russian office looks like? Look Here
yeah, the google office looks pretty shitty. no comparison needed.
to··on Is it ok to use warez software at a startup?
seriously, if you cant afford it right now... copy it. download the torrent and dont worry. every single company and former startup i know have now drawers filled with windows, adobe and whatnot license papers... thats just how it is. thats part of the online culture. if you cant afford 4 licenses each 1200 dollar im sure when you have the money youre proud about the fact that you can buy it now and you will buy it...
to··on U.S. to host World Press Freedom Day
does not compute.
to··on Let Amazon know we're boycotting them because of Wikileaks
i would reject everyone and everything of the official sites that go against wikileaks. like the icann will possibly at some point or paypal for cutting of donations or twitter if they ever kill the wikileaks account but amazon is a hoster that was getting ddos'ed. every normal hoster wouldve dropped your page if you harm their business others pay a lot of money for in some cases.
to··on Wikileaks moves to Amazon's cloud to evade massive DDoS
and i was right! ;)
to··on Google Chrome saved me $4,500
esp if flash is involved chrome can get really mean... not saying other browsers are better. besides that chrome is insanely fast on osx. i compared it with win and its a bit snappier on osx. for whatever internal reasons.
to··on Tumblr is Down – Fans Angry
why does this get downvoted? its a free service that probably hosts 98% kids who normally would hang out on myspace if that hasnt lost all its flavor.
to··on Lisp developer walks away with Google AI contest
food's better and cheaper... thats for sure.

to··on Tower - New Git client for Mac (beta)
another one? didnt they just released one last week?
to··on Dear British Government: You've Screwed Up (Startup) Visas Badly
thats how it is...

what bugs me the most on my h1b visa is that the time youre in the country you cant build a life for yourself. first its 3 years, than you can extend another three years but after those six years they kick you out. of course after five years you can apply for a green card but that takes two years. not to speak of the cut down on time when you switch jobs. i recently changed my employer after two years. now my last year of the first part of the visa got cut out and directly extended. giving me together five years in the country.

now what do i do in three years? in sept 2013 my visa ends. no extension. how can you live like that? knowing you leave your life, friends, everything behind in three years.

and the whole new investor start up blah visa is a punch in my face. when you generate a milliondollar revenue or find an investor that invests a million or more you get citizenship. come again? citizenship? i lead start ups for my last employer which gave me an astronomical salary around 300-600k a year and the start ups generated under the companies umbrella way more than 20m this year. where the FUCK is my citizenship?

the whole topic just makes me angry.

to··on What habits of yours kill your creativity?
minecraft.
to··on De-Anonymizing Web Communities with Gravatar
but why md5 when there are better alternatives? not to speak about the issues with OP
to··on De-Anonymizing Web Communities with Gravatar
you still have the problem that the thumbnail stays the same. if you change the url you could just hash the thumbnail binary content... pixel colors or whatever you want to use. its still no help to jzst change the user id.
to··on De-Anonymizing Web Communities with Gravatar
how many users do they want to store in their db with a unique md5 string? its just a really bad bet. thats a script kiddie for me, assuming that a hash never collides within a database and than chosing md5. there are better, even very simple, ways to store hashes without forcing collisions.
to··on De-Anonymizing Web Communities with Gravatar
thats funny... i still have an email from probably 2006 telling gravatar that a single md5 for each user (email address) is just idiotic for many reasons. possible collisions, anonymity, and so on. they replied back within an hour that im wrong, that there is no risk of collision because every email is unique because its the primary key (dah?) and they will continue using it.

made me laugh. since then i ignored the service as they are obvious just a bunch of script kiddies.

to be honest - the only obsticle for such a service is server redundancy. nothing special about it. besides that its now a obsolete service since every major site offers oauth.

to··on Ask HN: What are current trends in webdeveloping?
nodejs & mongodb are the most important trends for me. an evented language and a easy scalable nosql db.
to··on Gitbox 1.0 released: a version control app for Mac
so is that better than gitx?
to··on Gitbox 1.0 released: a version control app for Mac
agreed. i dont know why one would pay 40 bucks for an app that already exists for free.
to··on This (very basic) website is hosted on an alarm clock
thats like installing a webserver on an eeepc and saying its hosted on a picture frame...
