tlongren··on The New York Times Website is Down
I've had no issues loading nytimes.com from multiple internet connections and various browsers. So not really down, maybe not updated, but definitely not down. I suppose they had it mostly resolved by time I tried browsing there, though.
tlongren··on Show HN: A less-than 100 SLOC PHP Framework
I like this. Thank you.
tlongren··on Google Chrome security flaw offers unrestricted password access
This is a horrible article, nothing but fear mongering.

There's no bug, this is just how it was designed.

Elliott Kember, the supposed discoverer, is way behind and is stupid, mostly for taking credit for this "discovery". I was using this feature to find forgotten passwords months and months ago.

tlongren··on OpenX.org compromised and downloads injected with a backdoor
Right. It's amazing how many companies have public-facing openx installs that are no longer used or updated. Makes for an extremely easy target.
tlongren··on OpenX.org compromised and downloads injected with a backdoor
If you were using OpenX at one time and never removed it from your webserver, you can consider yourself compromised. Get that shit removed.
tlongren··on This Orange Box You’ve Never Seen Before Is Changing Payments.
That's one ugly orange box.
tlongren··on Show HN: Quick Donation Site For A Friends Newborn
Using Twitter Bootstrap and Fortrabbit for hosting.
tlongren··on PressureNET
I love this project. Been using their app on my Nexus 4 for a while now, put it on my wife's Nexus 4, too.
tlongren··on Sweden Runs Out of Garbage With Waste-to-Energy
I have no idea. Here's a page about the Resource Recovery System: http://www.cityofames.org/index.aspx?page=168
tlongren··on Sweden Runs Out of Garbage With Waste-to-Energy
Ames, Iowa, home of Iowa State University, does something similar. All of their trash gets burned to generate electricity for the city. Seems to work quite well for them, been doing it for probably 30 or 40 years, now.
tlongren··on Sublime Text packages
that is so awesome.
tlongren··on Slingatron to hurl payloads into orbit
I feel like your username makes you an expert on the subject.
tlongren··on Inside Dropbox’s Urbanized San Francisco Offices
Thank you to whoever update the link to point to officesnapshots.com. I wish I would have linked there to begin with.
tlongren··on Inside Dropbox’s Urbanized San Francisco Offices
Cool. Thanks!
tlongren··on Twitter Bootstrap Now Powering 1% of The Web
Exactly as I use it, too. Prior to bootstrap and others like it, I had a couple standard designs I used, but the flexibility of bootstrap is what drew me in.
tlongren··on Ecommerce in Minutes – SimpleCartjs
I'd say so.

tlongren··on Ask HN: Best way to host a video file?
Sent you an email.
tlongren··on Ask HN: Best way to host a video file?
Oh yah, I forgot they don't list their file server plans.

Let me see if I can find the link the owner gave me to sign up with so I could get the file storage stuff. Won't really be able to find it for another 6-ish hours or so though.

They're a good company, run by really nice folks. I seriously doubt that they'd limit you even if they feel you "start using too much". I've never been happier with my VPS provider than I am with Fliphost. But I came from a Dreamhost VPS...meh.

tlongren··on Ask HN: Best way to host a video file?
Get a file server VPS from Fliphost.net. 250GB of storage, 100mbps connection, 29TB of transfer for like $7/month.
tlongren··on Amash’s Amendment To Defund NSA Program Fails 205-217
I read the title as "Amish's Amendment". Wondering what the Amish did to illicit such attention from the NSA.
tlongren··on Apple Developer Website Update
As I interpreted it, yes, the intruder does have your encrypted data.
tlongren··on Apple Developer Website Update
"In the spirit of transparency". Right, Apple.
tlongren··on “What Is That Box?” – When The NSA Shows Up At Your Internet Company
So do these companies approach the government and say "Hey, give us $1000000 per month and we'll just give you full access."?
tlongren··on Microsoft responds to Apple Dev Center outage
"I'll just wait, thanks". Some good responses.
tlongren··on A snapshot of your computer with dd, pv and gzip - Part 1
Pigz looks nice. First I've ever heard of it.

I just use BackInTime though, like TimeMachine I guess. It's really, really useful.

tlongren··on Show HN: jQuery panelSnap, sexy Calendar.app like screen snapping.
This looks like it would be useful for building a "single page" site. I may use it for just that.
tlongren··on Show HN: jQuery panelSnap, sexy Calendar.app like screen snapping.
Lato is so beautiful.
tlongren··on Slackware Turns 20
Slackware was the first Linux distro I used, back in 1999. Eventually left it for Debian. Glad to see it's still around and that Patrick is seemingly doing better health-wise.
tlongren··on Cleaner CSS skin for hacker news in Chrome.
I like it. Thank you. Would be nice if it'd show an orange up arrow after I upvote something though.
