A decade is a long time in tech terms......
tintedfireglass··on Asus Zenfone 9
Then you are holding your phone for too long ;) Jk lol
tintedfireglass··on Asus Zenfone 9
6 is large? wierd. Most phones on the market are larger than six inches since like 2018. I don't think it's fair to expect 2012 sized smartphones with 2022 hardware in them. a 1200maH battery is the max that can fit in those. Also I don't think the new smartphone chips can be cooled sufficiently in such form factors. No one would buy a 600USD phone with a 1000mah battery and a dual core processor in 2022 other than a few nerds on HN and reddit......

I don't think anyone is going to make a 5 inch smartphone. Even if they make one they won't be able to sell any.

This is a small android phone
tintedfireglass··on Asus Zenfone 9

tintedfireglass··on For centuries, English bakers’ biggest customers were horses
I don't think so..... 2-3 whistles from a pressure cooker is enough to make them really soft
tintedfireglass··on Has the world become less colourful?
steel is naturally silver so I guess that's the reason no one cares much?
tintedfireglass··on About communication safety in Messages
A lot of that can be attributed to the best people from around the world emigrating to California and not culture and education of Californians
tintedfireglass··on Tor Project – Metrics
Am I the only one who runs tor node on an android OS? Looks like everyone is Linux or BSD
tintedfireglass··on For centuries, English bakers’ biggest customers were horses
Humans eat it too, and it's my favorite gram!
tintedfireglass··on Am I an idiot for wanting a dumber phone?
Yep, it's not the phone it's the apps on the phone that are addicting. Delete them and you'll live in peace and tranquility.

This sounds interesting! I'd want to do this but I'm busy till September :(
tintedfireglass··on Ask HN: Is the world suffering from shallow knowledge?
Teenager here. Not every adult knows anything deep about any topic. only 1% of adults can talk in detail about atleast one topic. It's the same in the next generation too. Not all kids want to learn, but some do. It's just about our outlook towards it
tintedfireglass··on The rise of air conditioning (2018)
by tropics I don't mean something like the bornean rainforest. many cities like Dubai, Lagos, Mumbai, Cairo, Bangkok, Jakarta all exist in the tropics.
tintedfireglass··on The rise of air conditioning (2018)
Interesting! Yeah, and they definetly are worse than ACs XD
tintedfireglass··on The rise of air conditioning (2018)
how does 40C in UK compared to 40c in the tropics? is it heat directly from the sun? Or is the atmosphere hot? or does the ground radiate heat? these three different types of 40C have different mitigation strategies but will be given the same number (40C) by weather report sources. All heat is not the same. humid 40C is completely different from dry 40C. Each of these various types of heat will have different effects on our health and efficiency and have different strategies to mitigate it.
tintedfireglass··on The rise of air conditioning (2018)
if honestly people think AC is bad for the environment people could switch to water based cooling systems. these are known as "coolers" in India and are used widely during summers as they are cheap and use really low amount of electricity and have zero effect on environment. it just costs like 30$ when compared to 300$ AC systems and have many advantages both economical and environmental. not sure why it hasn't picked up in developed nations?

tintedfireglass··on Brazil's answer to the Sichuan pepper
cloves are sweet right? cloves have a pleasant taste and they don't taste "spicy" at all. I occasionally chew some cloves as a mouth freshener and I don't feel any overwhelming spicy-ness like black pepper or chilli pepper

tintedfireglass··on People from elite backgrounds increasingly dominate academia, data shows
I think I was biased due to getting my IIT entrance test results today where I did real bad. Now that I read it, it looks like a rant/vent :(
tintedfireglass··on People from elite backgrounds increasingly dominate academia, data shows
IIT is pseudo-meritocratic. It's a very rigorous exam and the person who can spend their whole high school time studying phy, Chem and maths and who can spend the most money joining the best coaching institutions and best mentors bacially get the admission. Doesn't matter if someone has an IQ of 200 or India's best football player or coding genius unless they get the highest marks in physics chemistry in maths they aren't allowed. It's technically meritocratic but it is a really flawed system that rewards rigorous practice over skill, interest and other aspects of a student.

tintedfireglass··on Arm Introduces the Cortex-A715
That's because, if the chip uses 20% less power, if the latest Soc performs the same as last year but consumes 1w less power no one will buy it. So Qualcomm has to increase its power limits to show graphs like 50% FASTER WITH SIMILAR POWER CONSUMPTION

Personal anecdote:

the lower end chips like SD695 and SD732 have amazing battery lives. I personally use a SD732G smartphone with a 6000MAH battery and it gives me amazing 3-4 days of battery on one full charge
