tintedfireglass··on Ask HN: I want to dive into how to make search engines
I think yeah, I overreacted...
tintedfireglass··on Ask HN: I want to dive into how to make search engines
Thanks a lot! That's really interesting
tintedfireglass··on Ask HN: I want to dive into how to make search engines
Thanks a lot! I do feel like that sometimes that it's just a waste of time but a lot of search engines are actually really cool.
tintedfireglass··on DuckDuckGo email protection beta now open
I mean, anonaddy and simple login also give only 10 and 15 free aliases respectively.

cmon dude why this elitism. each person approaches problems differently. Don't push negativity into OP's brain before it even begins to flourish.
tintedfireglass··on Ask HN: How has deactivating/deleting social media benefitted you?
That sounds like a pretty apt analogy....
tintedfireglass··on Ask HN: I want to dive into how to make search engines
I'm in a similar bandwagon. I just started collecting search engines and analyzing them. I've listed some of them at https://github.com/Tintedfireglass/search-engines and what I feel is that it is easy to look at search algorithms, queries and User interfaces but I still don't understand how to create one. Prolly start learning some Javascript first. then I'll try. I just host a searx instance at this point.
tintedfireglass··on Ask HN: How has deactivating/deleting social media benefitted you?
I'm a teenager who has no fb/insta/twitter/etc. I don't think I missed anything, I'm actually glad I did it. I use discord and occasionally reddit though.

tintedfireglass··on A new vertical farm will grow 3M pounds of mycelium a year for fungi-based bacon
horse meat IS eaten in many parts of the world but AFAIK is banned in the USA
tintedfireglass··on A new vertical farm will grow 3M pounds of mycelium a year for fungi-based bacon
The point of not eating meat is that meat is not that healthy in our modern lifestyle. replacing real meat with mycelium meat won't make a difference as fat is fat and protein is protein

how in the world is working in Infosys or Wipro prestigious. you are just a robot doing some repetitive task for some random dude on the other side of the world
tintedfireglass··on El Sueño Americano / The American Dream
As an Indian, I feel that there are more Indians that believe in the American dream than Americans who believe in their own idea of the American dream
tintedfireglass··on Uses for an old Android device
I use termux to run a tor node and i use a 5W charger and Type-C Ethernet cable to get constant internet and stable battery.
tintedfireglass··on Edible insects role in transmission of parasitic diseases to humans (2019)
Yes, they were. Chickens are one of the oldest domesticated species by humans.
tintedfireglass··on Uses for an old Android device
I personally run a tor node on an old android phone
tintedfireglass··on Another court case fails to unlock the mystery of Bitcoin’s Satoshi Nakamoto
What if Satoshi is actually a three letter US org? what if it's a secret Chinese experiment? why do we just assume Satoshi is a single human male west coast American person with WASP ethnicity.
tintedfireglass··on The Overlooked Indian Dynasties: On Anirudh Kanisetti’s “Lords of the Deccan”
It's just my anecdotal experience. Hinduism is a decentralized and diverse religion so my Hinduism might be different from my neighbour's Hinduism. The temples we pray in, the festivals we celebrate etc. are all different. My observation of ISKCON is that they are very conservative and sexist in their beliefs and more North Indian in their customs compared to other hindu organizations like the Rama Krishna Math for example. As a South Indian when I go to an ISCKON I feel like I'm in a building of a different religion. I personally feel that the ISCKON's interpretation of the Gita is kinda casteist and sexist and feels like "upholding the status quo". Note : this is anecdotal and my opinion and I will try to get some snippets on iskcons interpretations of the Gita if I find it.
tintedfireglass··on Another court case fails to unlock the mystery of Bitcoin’s Satoshi Nakamoto
We as humans tend to ask WHO MADE IT first and then the next question about a new product/invention and then move forward being oblivious to the fact that every invention from agriculture to insulin wasn't made by a single person. Even things like a voltaic cell and an incandescent bulb was not invented by a single person. Humans are social creatures so human inventions also have to be made by a group of people. I don't know if me transitioning into being an adult and learning that adults aren't as perfect as I thought them to be when I was 12-13 makes me feel kinda negative about Homo sapiens as a whole.

Edit : looks like I just went off-topic down a rabbit hole lol

tintedfireglass··on Ask HN: Longevity for your parents, what to do?
wow, as a "third-world" person, this feels really dystopian to me. We as humans haven't progressed so much that we can delay death. The only way we increased life expectancy is with Healthcare. How do you know if the pills you are giving them are doing harm or good? I personally feel really terrified of these maybe because I'm from a different culture and economic status than some tech-bro from silicon valley. just my two-cents
tintedfireglass··on Another court case fails to unlock the mystery of Bitcoin’s Satoshi Nakamoto
Honestly does it matter who is Satoshi? What's the point of all this?
tintedfireglass··on The Overlooked Indian Dynasties: On Anirudh Kanisetti’s “Lords of the Deccan”
As the author is from Andhra is there any bias towards coramandel kingdoms as compared to the Malabar kingdoms in this book? (i.e covering a lot of kakatiya and vijayanagara as compared to say the rashtrakuta or maratha)
tintedfireglass··on The Overlooked Indian Dynasties: On Anirudh Kanisetti’s “Lords of the Deccan”
ISKCON is a wierd cult. It has a completely different interpretation of hindu texts, has completely different customs and principles and feels like a completely different religion to me as a hindu. Not sure why ISKCON caught on in the west so much!
tintedfireglass··on Hacker’s Delight (2012)
Nice book but I feel the title should be something like principles of computer science or something of that sort.
tintedfireglass··on Tutors / tips to change your English accent
I don't think you need professional help with that. Your original accent you picked up because of the people around you. If you are with Japanese you will pick up a Japanese accent. If you are around bangaldesis you'll pick up a South Asian accent. You can simulate the same using the internet

Edit: It might be easy to pick up accents maybe because I know 5 languages and also I'm a teenager and not an adult.

Note : I'm also south Indian who has never been outside the country but I can tell if it's a southern accent or a Midwestern accent or an upper class coastal accent.

tintedfireglass··on Tutors / tips to change your English accent
Listening to a particular accent will get you comfortable with it. Too much tech youtube helped me with picking up an American accent
tintedfireglass··on What’s going on with Google and Facebook hiring freezes?
is Netflix actually such a big company to include it with those tech giants?
tintedfireglass··on Asus Zenfone 9
The battery in the mini iPhone is just 2200mah. that's like half the size of the Asus battery. Do you want to charge your phone twice a day just because you want a small one? A Powerbank is not small but you need that if you want to spend a day with such a small phone.
tintedfireglass··on Asus Zenfone 9
A larger battery with a way better SOC.
