"Scrolling and animation tasks are jerky or just plain slow. I can’t deal with that in a new machine. Maybe in a year or two when it can drive its screen and a large external retina smoothly."
What? Has the author used one recently? These problems were fixed within a month of original release. I've been using one for over a year and love it.
I think I'll just stick to some of the cheaper, well respected 5.8Ghz FPV setups.
I guess I'm not getting a Valentine this year.
I know I don't want my mother thinking I liked a post about "2 Girls 1 Cup" – and my recourse shouldn't be to completely delete my Facebook account.
As for your later point, your assumption that all users know these posts are advertisement and that users understand their friend didn't really like a post about 2 Girls 1 Cup – is patently false based on OP's own personal experience. His mother saw a Sponsored Story by VICE about "Penis Waffles" that had his name attached to it. When she saw the post, it looked to her as if he had liked the story/post and urged him to take it down.
The post from OP stemmed from such an "unsophisticated viewer," namely: his mother; she thought that he had liked an article about "Penis Waffles" that VICE posted some months ago, and she urged him to take the post down due to its vulgar nature.
Of course, he couldn't take the post down, and had no way of even KNOWING the post was being shown to his friends and family.
"Would you like to cancel this transaction?"
"OK" – "Cancel"
North of $700? The iPad starts at $500, and recently, the iPad Mini at $330. Granted the Mini is late in this timeline, but it stands to reason the price point is closer than you're making it out to be.
Secondly, an "incomplete OS" is a fallacy. It's complete to the spec it was designed for. Yes, that means its not intended to be a fully-fledged desktop OS, but its not inherently incomplete, just focused.
Thirdly, "running two programs simultaneously" – I'd wager that many netbook users (myself included) found the netbook so limiting and simple that it was only ever used for doing one thing at a time, such as reading email, browsing the web, listening to music or reading a book; all of which now accomplished by the iPad.

What if a server crashes? What if Illustrator doesn't draw the exact like the hand performed?
There are physical and technological disconnects in much the same respect as a musical performance.
We can all agree that the product launch and the product itself was terribly implemented, but that doesn't mean the technology behind it can't be impressive. It also doesn't have to mean that Apple can't make good use of the technology and talent at Color by embedding them into existing teams and apps.
Now Adobe just needs to get their game together. The Creative Suite are exactly the type of applications used by early adopting Mac users that could use a retina display.
