Then lend the money to yourself, if you are so convinced.

Please become specific: how much money do you reckon would you need to do what that person did?

If you are so convinced it is easy money, and there is absolutely nobody who would borrow you money, set your goals to saving that much money and do it yourself.

If you have the skills that guy has, I don't believe you are stuck in a minimum wage job, either. And those skills are free to acquire on the internet if you can read and write, so please don't argue that education is not affordable for poor people.

You don't have to get a one million $ portfolio right away, btw, you can also start with a smaller portfolio. He is making money by having domains people want to buy, not by having many domains. You could start with one domain, costing you only 70$.

I also don't understand your point about having to buy from a squatter. He describes how he got hold of interesting domains at a fair price, that is the entire trick.

There are only some islands who are in the position to effectively restrict travel, and totalitarian states whose numbers can't be trusted.

Infection rates vary by countries, but a lot of it is driven by hotspot outbreaks . And some who seemed to be doing good at first are suddenly getting their hotspot outbreaks at later points.

Personally I am not from the US, and I don't know that the government is spewing lies. What makes you so sure? And if you are so sure, why are you worried people could be swayed by the lies - why not make them equally sure with the information you have?

However, I am happy with letting the courts decide. Where is the problem?

I have seen lies from all big political parties in the US.

It's surprisingly difficult to find data for previous years. I think we need a bigger picture, including the data for 2021 (when it has passed).

I found one CDC number of 12% excess deaths in the US this year. It's not obvious if that is an extreme event or not. I know for some other countries there were also big events in the past decade, but before 2017. The nature of averages is that some years will below them and some years will above them.

Here is one criticism but I don't know if it has merit, I only found it by googling for data of older years and I don't have the time to dig into it right now.

Anti-vaxxing was not started by YouTube. Provide the evidence that YouTube has inflated the problem.

And by evidence I don't mean "hit pieces in traditional media that don't like the competition from social media".

timeeater··on YouTube to remove content that alleges widespread election fraud
Not weasel words - are you saying if you were exposed to anti-vaxxer videos, you would become an anti-vaxxer? It should be obvious to you how ridiculous that assumption is.

This is just hand-wavy fearmongering about "mass psychology"

timeeater··on YouTube to remove content that alleges widespread election fraud
Are you saying nobody should report about the claims? Only the courts, nobody else should here about it?

Reporting about it on YouTube does not mean it will be decided on YouTube.

timeeater··on YouTube to remove content that alleges widespread election fraud
I've been on the internet for 23 years and I have never been forced to watch an anti-vaxxer's video. Your theory that by producing lots of videos they subvert lots of people is simply wrong.

It's the same fallacy as with the "Russian Bots" election conspiracy. Just because you can create lots of content, doesn't mean you can make people watch it.

timeeater··on YouTube to remove content that alleges widespread election fraud
" why don’t you object equally to people with megaphones intentionally flooding the zone with shit"

That analogy is simply incorrect. You can spend your life on YouTube watching cat videos, no conspiracy theory in sight. Nobody can force you to watch their video on YouTube. So nobody has a megaphone in YouTube. Only YouTube itself has the megaphone, they can choose what to push to people.

It is NOT TV where you have a single stream that everybody watched, and if you insert shit, everybody watches it.

No, we will look back in bewilderment on how the whole world could have become gripped by a panic.

Looking back, we will be able to look at excess deaths, not alarmist predictions.

timeeater··on Longbets: A bioerror will lead to one million casualties by Dec 2020
Bullshit, it was about a biotech error, a menace created in the lab.

Also you need citations for you claim that it would have been possible to stop the spread.

timeeater··on My million dollar domain hobby
As I said, take out a business loan. You claim with enough money, it is easy to make money with domains. So do the calculation and go to your bank. How much money will you need, and how much can you make?

Or work your way up. You don't have to stay on minimum wage forever. In fact, if you are on minimum wage, you should probably think about ways to improve your income. Most people in minimum wage are probably not there forever - they may be pupils or students, or pensioners making extra money, and so on.

Also the cost per year is less relevant, if you earn more from selling domains every year. Only the difference is relevant (costs vs income).

timeeater··on My million dollar domain hobby
Save some money to find out?
timeeater··on My million dollar domain hobby
Not that much money, and you can also borrow money if you are not rich. It always shocks me how ready poor people are with their excuses.

If you think it is so simple to make money, prove it by doing it.

You claim you know of a guaranteed way to make money, you only need some starting money. If you are so sure, and your idea is so good, you should be able to convince somebody to lend you the money to do it.

Incidentally, do you know any "limited supply properties" somebody with money should buy at this very moment, to get even richer?

Only 20% of patients are in ICU because of Covid, so it is simply incorrect to claim that because of Covid the system is close to collapse. It is not. And if you call more than 80% use (which we don't even have) "exceptional load", it still isn't the same as "close to collapse". Have you even looked at the charts? If you count the emergency reserve, there is still capacity for 15000 more beds. A "doubling of cases" would put 4000 more people into ICU, so it wouldn't break the system at all. https://www.intensivregister.de/#/aktuelle-lage/zeitreihen

As for nurses working overtime, do you have any data for that? Quoting some individual hospital managers warning of "possible collapse" is not really evidence. They can also be politically motivated ("see, we really need more money for our ICU section"). You can also find individual hospital managers saying everything is fine.

timeeater··on A container ship lost a record 1,800 containers
Why does it have to be a premium for getting a fixed budgetable amount?

If they ship millions of containers, surely they can work out an efficient solution.

Yes, at some point they need a lawyer and what not. But not every single time somebody wants to ship a container. They work it out once and that's it. Even if the lawyer costs 100 million dollars, if they ship millions of containers every year, they can scale the cost down to one dollar per container in the end.

The system to only ask for money in case of accidents doesn't actually make it cheaper or less complicated. There simply is the inherent "cost" (a ka expected loss) of accidents, that you have to pay one way or another. There may also be people who don't want to pay, and then you still need your lawyer.

My travel insurance is very cheap, by the way.

Insurance is an old and established business, many learnings already exists. The industry presumably is quite good at estimating and pricing risks.

Edit: You realize the Corona protests are organized by a group that calls themselves "Querdenker", so the "Q" may just refer to "Querdenker"? You just provided me with another indication that the alleged wide reach of QAnon is the actual conspiracy theory.

Even assuming that is true (I haven't noticed, but I didn't specifically look for it), it doesn't prove they are "widespread", as only few people go to Corona protests. They are a special part of the population. I don't think people happen upon QAnon stuff and become radicalized that way, as the social media alarmists claim.

timeeater··on A container ship lost a record 1,800 containers
Doesn't matter who does the insuring (external company or shipping company itself), the point is still that it would be better to have the insurance up front, instead of this risk of additional costs of arbitrary height?
timeeater··on A container ship lost a record 1,800 containers
But to take regular insurance, you don't need all those complicated things. I have for example a travel health insurance that only requires me to send a fixed amount of money to their bank account, instant insurance.

Yeah my point is/was that you can just use regular insurance. That's my point. Or at least I don't see why not. Presumably the shipping industry has a reason.

timeeater··on My million dollar domain hobby
Yup, taking the friction out of the process. You can also see at a glance what interesting domains are available.

Edit: another benefit is that you can sell your domain to him, if you have uselessly squatted on it for years.

timeeater··on My million dollar domain hobby
If you need a domain, you can buy it from him. It's better than all unused domains that are being squatted on for decades.

Edit: is there a .socialism TLD already, that is unsquattable, and you only get access if you are deemed worthy by the committee? Seriously, lighten up, people. And if you don't like the system, create a better one.

timeeater··on A container ship lost a record 1,800 containers
The standard formula?
timeeater··on The Death of Tony Hsieh: A Spiral of Alcohol, Drugs and Extreme Behavior
As other said, it is not that unusual that individual units are full. As for staff, if things would become dire, surely more capacity could be mustered (people working overtime and so on).

And if it is really such a limiting factor, the statistics should be adjusted accordingly.

I think it is just a wildcard argument without any specific numbers. You can imagine whatever you like. How many nurses are available? How many are sick, specifically?

Also, sick nurses tend to be well again after two weeks (if they have Covid).

timeeater··on The Death of Tony Hsieh: A Spiral of Alcohol, Drugs and Extreme Behavior
Sure, but that is exactly the case in Germany, only 80% are in use, as would be expected in normal times. Presumably they can adjust by delaying surgical procedures that are not urgent.
timeeater··on The Death of Tony Hsieh: A Spiral of Alcohol, Drugs and Extreme Behavior
I have posted the official chart of ICU occupation in Germany. How can you argue with that? Covid patients are only a small fraction of the occupied beds.

In general it makes sense to use existing ICU beds at capacity (or slightly below), to, you know, make use of them.

Surely you could also still adjust by delaying surgical procedures that are not urgent, if things would get worse.

timeeater··on The Death of Tony Hsieh: A Spiral of Alcohol, Drugs and Extreme Behavior
Just show me the excess deaths.

And what if somebody has only one month to live, and dies with Covid, also a death from Covid? Maybe yes, but really worthy of hyperbole then?

My grandmother died from the flu, at 99 years old. I never felt I should blame her death on the flu pandemic, though.

timeeater··on A container ship lost a record 1,800 containers
But everybody knows the value of their goods?
timeeater··on A container ship lost a record 1,800 containers
Why does doing it upfront require so many people, and doing it afterwards doesn't? You could just have a standard formula for upfront insurance?
