tim_iles··on Take a paycut to work at a startup
that's the one :) we were finalists in TechCrunch's Europas this year, currently all going to plan...
tim_iles··on Swype (Re)Opens Its Beta
I used Swype for a while half a year ago, but I found SwiftKey to be far quicker at issuing updates, where Swype had some pretty huge usability fails that remained unfixed for ages. It's an amazing keyboard, but SwiftKey won the race for me.
tim_iles··on Take a paycut to work at a startup
Two of these factors have been particularly relevant to my situation: lifestyle, and passion. I'm still young enough (28 in London, no major life commitments) to take risks where the pay-offs include loving my job, loving going to work everyday, and finding further personal career development possible and exciting.

If this is the worst case scenario and the company fails, I'll have zero regrets.

tim_iles··on Neat Infographic renderings of Girl Talk's Album
I felt like that until perhaps 5 listens of Feed The Animals, after which it became a solid favourite.
tim_iles··on Ask HN: Whom do you regularly follow on Twitter?
I originally found Twitter to be useful at conferences and evening tech talks etc. I then started to follow people who I saw also regularly tweeting at these events. As a result, a lot of the people who I follow, I have now also met in Real Life. Essentially, it kinda works as an aid to networking, as well as sharing tech news.
tim_iles··on A table that should exist in all projects with a database
I have occasionally modified a sproc, only to find that a conflicting check-in has also modified that same sproc. One of our modifications has been overwritten by the other.

I do concede it is rare, but it happened, and we only discovered the bug too late.

tim_iles··on Show HN: We made this 'Pandora for Music Videos', let me know what you think.
Like it!

However it didn't find me anything for Weezer, surprised.

When typing, it felt really laggy, lots of JavaScript going on?

When I hit Donate, it opened in the current window, killing my music! Needless to say I then hit back again to get back to the music, and didn't end up donating... ;-)

Consider adding Gigs along with Amazon and iTunes? DISCLAIMER: my day job is with GigJunkie.net, we could link your users to gig tickets and share the affiliate. If you're interested, send me an email, tim.iles@gigjunkie.net.

Good work, nice project!

tim_iles··on Scott Adams: FaceBook Killer
This is a quote from Pulp Fiction.
tim_iles··on Did you know: In NYC, yellow cabs are required to take you anywhere in NYC.
Last week I was refused a cab from the south side of Blackfriars Bridge to Leicester Square, because the driver said it was "too busy" in central London right now. (Fortunately the cab behind him accepted us, and it didn't seem "too busy" at all.) Didn't know this rule applied, thanks!
tim_iles··on [dead]
Feed the Animals was on repeat for nearly a week when I put in over 80 hours, knew it second by second before too long.
tim_iles··on Ask HN: What are the websites that you rely on but have horrible UI?
Hotmail, even after its recent Gmaily redesign.

I find all the View options distract my eye from the Actions that I am more often looking for, and I still find it clunky and too time consuming to use easily. I'm only still on there for old contacts who don't have my gmail address.

tim_iles··on Ask HN: What Cool Android Projects are You doing?
Have just downloaded this - will definitely give it a try. I can imagine using this to run one-off scripts, in the way I currently use LINQPad on my laptop.

Good work!

tim_iles··on The No. 1 reason for unfriending on Facebook? "frequent, unimportant posts."
In the summer I made a Chrome extension to block status updates about the World Cup from my notifications stream, and replace them with a philosophical quote from twitter, or a picture from Flickr's API. It worked, and was fun.

I should resurrect that project, and blog about my experience creating it.
