tigerstripe··on Show HN: Free static CMS with in-page editing
This free and open source CMS has been an interesting challenge to build - it brings together in-page editing and static sites. Thanks for taking a look and please let me know what you think.
tigerstripe··on I helped reposition a database product that went on to make $1B in revenue
I searched online - seems that when SAP bought Sybase, net revenues of Sybase were around $1b - this was only one product in their portfolio.

Is it true that the product was making $1b / year?

tigerstripe··on Adobe (Inadvertently?) Timebombed Acrobat Xi (Fix by Blocking Acroipm.adobe.com)
Adobe killed off it's non-cloud version of Acrobat, by breaking a remote server endpoint that is checked on startup.

It makes you wonder how much control you have over your PC.

tigerstripe··on So you want to write your own CSV code (2014)
Sounds like CSV in this case stood for Colon Separate Data
tigerstripe··on Ask HN: Is your company sticking to on-premise servers? Why?
Cool - I should give the micro instances another shot - I wonder how big of a Postgres database they will be able to handle.
tigerstripe··on Ask HN: Is your company sticking to on-premise servers? Why?
What kind of setup did you have for 5 servers at $50/mo on AWS? Interested to know - our EC2 instances that are about 1/4 as powerful as a laptop cost $60+/mo
tigerstripe··on Medium-hard SQL interview questions
Sometimes you need to wade through the firing range as part of your job:

tigerstripe··on The Risks of Homeschooling
I wonder how advances in online teaching will affect homeschooling.

One thing I'm not sure about is the perspective that public education prevents child abuse. There are probably other more cost-effective ways to do that than with the current school system.

tigerstripe··on 230, or not 230? That is the EARN IT question
It would certainly change the face of the modern web. In the early 2000's, many blogs and news sites did not have comment sections.

Maybe a service like a third-party Disqus would come out that would split the user-generated content from the actual sites (and source the content via P2P networking).

tigerstripe··on Ask HN: How do we stop the polarization/toxicicity filling the web?
Allow lawsuits against content providers, to be liable for what their users post.

Hear me out: There's another article here about how the EARN IT would attack Big Tech and reduce user freedom by limiting Section 230. Maybe Section 230 has helped the Internet grow into what it is today, but it might also be the reason for a lot of the toxicity.

I'm personally in favor of privacy and digital freedom, but if repealing that law would turn the Internet into a forum for civil intellectual discourse, it might be worth it.
