thunderfork··on Autistici/Inventati's main .org domain goes dark after US terrorism designation
It's generally considered rude to stop reading one sentence into a message in order to shoot off pithy replies
thunderfork··on Zohran and the Short Link
* Jurisdictional: Food stamps can't be adjusted by NYC itself (as far as I know), so if they're insufficient this works around that issue

* Store access: Food stamps don't necessarily solve the problem of "there's no grocery store close to me", and if the market can't be nudged in that direction, a direct intervention solves it faster.

thunderfork··on Zohran and the Short Link
As a counter-example, the LCBO (Ontario government liquor store) has been demonstrably fine for decades. Failure modes exist, but I don't think they're guaranteed.
thunderfork··on Omarchy development practices lead to predictable security issues
I'm not interested in having "nuanced discussions" about whether the Roma people have some kind of Nuisance Gene that makes discussion of extermination valid

If you'd like to make an argument that isn't just "ethnic cleansing is okay sometimes if the ethnicity is REALLY annoying" go ahead

thunderfork··on Omarchy development practices lead to predictable security issues
"it's not ethnic cleansing because this time the Jews really ARE evil, okay"
thunderfork··on France reaches 94.9% fiber coverage in 2026
And there's been almost no fiber laid for the last two years after Bell bought up the companies that were actually doing innovative rollout :/

"Cable is equivalent" only if you don't need/want a symmetric connection - until they lay fiber I'm stuck with an awful upload speed.

thunderfork··on France reaches 94.9% fiber coverage in 2026
Unfortunately I haven't heard much about build-out since Bell bought the company that was laying all that fiber (Start.ca)

I had to move to a place that didn't have fiber but by all means should be getting it Real Soon Now (urban, surrounded by fiber build-out, on an arterial) but I'm basically accepting that I'll be doomed to DOCSIS for the foreseeable future.

>I think there's such a strong difference between remigration and ethnic cleansing

you can think what you want to think but this is definitionally incorrect

thunderfork··on Oceans hit highest temperature on record
You've mistaken a statement for an argument
thunderfork··on U.S. Debt Hits $40T as America's Borrowing Binge Continues
this is a fact you can look up
thunderfork··on AI Has Plunged the Book Publishing Industry into Utter Chaos
I don't think "produced for free" is a salve to this, completely, at least.

People spending time/effort/resources on Authentic Stuff have to eat, and there's no shortage of people who have some other income source posting slop for the social standing/clout/attention of being an artist/a recomp dev/an emulator dev/etc.

thunderfork··on The AI Credit Resale Economy
Any situation where you can extract a benefit from a stolen credit card and then sell that benefit before the chargeback renders it moot will have some fraud-based usage.
thunderfork··on uBlock Origin is giving up the fight to keep ads off Facebook

thunderfork··on France's top court blocks social media ban for under-15s
Kids can bully kids in real life for not being on <app>.
thunderfork··on Kinney Drugs pulls back AI phone assistant after hundreds of customer complaints
People pronounce drug names all sorts of ways, and there's a lot of them (with a steady trickle of new ones)
thunderfork··on The tragedy of the commons, AI edition
I think there's a distinction to be made between "a nuisance complaint" and "a legitimate complaint whose presumptive odds of succeeding in court are less than guaranteed"
thunderfork··on Everything you do is being recorded
"if you are in the air and not descending, you can just not care about gravity"
thunderfork··on The "Disability Dongle": Why Silicon Valley Hates Me and You
The dream of a vaccine or cure is all well and good, but when my grandfather has Alzheimer's today and there's no properly functioning social supports, processes, etc to get him into a home and it takes months and months of phone calls and panicked searches when he wanders off to improve the situation at all, I think maybe there really is a dearth of "caring about the problem and not just the solution"
thunderfork··on Memory safety absolutists
>What have you added to the conversation? Nothing.

This doesn't strike me as particularly constructive discourse

thunderfork··on Designing emoji for the way we communicate today

Everyone rushing to get these consolidations done before America starts having anti-trust law again, huh?
thunderfork··on DOGE is done. What happened to its records?
From the article text of its conclusion:

"the EcoHealth funding was not related to the experiments, but the collection of samples."

Pretty cut and dry?

thunderfork··on How to stop Claude from saying load-bearing
I feel like "having enough useful context to be jumping in and answering the question in question" and "needing an LLM to shave off 25 minutes of writing on the subject" feel like they're incompatible premises.

I would prefer you give me whatever part of your answer takes you five minutes and then I can work from there on my end, in the method and with the tools I see fit. In other words - give me the prompt.

Totally possible I'm misunderstanding the situation you're presenting, though.

thunderfork··on How we can reduce traffic congestion
Going over the patch notes, here's some buffs you might have missed:

Mandatory parking minimums, high speed limits, car lanes without bus lanes or bike lanes, tearing down neighborhoods to build interchanges and highways...

thunderfork··on DOGE is done. What happened to its records?
And yet, 100% of states, successful and unsuccessful, use violence for various purposes
