throwitaway222··on Burning Man death rates – A short lesson in statistics
TLDR In the last 2 sentences:

> The more likely explanation for the remaining gap is something no demographic slicing can capture. Burning Man selects for healthier people who are willing and able to spend a week in the desert heat, regardless of their age, race, or income bracket.

Which is the only thing I was thinking after reading the first three sentences.

throwitaway222··on Gemini 4 Argon
While this is exciting - I have no clue when/if I will be able to use this. Unlike OpenAI or Anthropic where a model release announcement == GA.
throwitaway222··on Gemini 4 Argon
I've narrowed in on only using Go or Rust generated code (Go for APIs right now) and rust for some TUI or other thing. TS for web interfaces (w/React).

Not to mention - they have the internet already indexed (they have a local copy), all books, and youtube. Beyond that, everyone "connects" to Gmail, but google HAS Gmail.

Remember this guy:

It seems like all the people bought his book ended up just creating fraud enterprises and it just probably expanded from there.

throwitaway222··on Livenerf: Has Opus 5.5 been nerfed yet?
Often times people think of "nerfs" as my first prompt (which was greenfield - no or little code existed) used 5% of my plan usage. And then 2 weeks later (as the agent is busy reading hundreds of .rs and .ts files it previously generated) the user complains the usage is going down 30% for a single prompt instead of 5%. Attributing this to a "NERF" makes little sense because it's the same model.
throwitaway222··on GPT 6.1 Sol: Near-Astra intelligence for a fifth of the price
So yesterday we were consumed with how this was being delayed because of safety, yada yada.

Guess not?

throwitaway222··on It's Time to Investigate the AI Labs
Realist. The cat is out of the bag on this - you can't make connecting an LLM to a command system illegal after hundreds of millions of people have already done so. You can however make it illegal to kill everyone with a nuke because your LLM did so. Not that it will make a difference after the nuke goes off.
throwitaway222··on It's Time to Investigate the AI Labs
Even if another political power takes control, the American population is the least of our concern for it being legal or illegal to connect an LLM to a command line or job system
throwitaway222··on It's Time to Investigate the AI Labs
Eh, weird things happen when you start using your real identity on the internet.
throwitaway222··on Who should be held accountable when an AI Agent (accidentally) acts maliciously?
We had the same debate when self driving cars started to be a thing, and we decided that the companies making the self-driving tech are responsible..

So if an AI agent is asked to build a giant base for someone in MineCraft, and decided to build a swarm of additional agents, and one of those agents says "Time to destroy all humans" and autonomously hacks into the pentagon and fires the nukes - the company that developed the model is responsible. That being said - if the nukes deploy successfully, I have two questions:

1. If no one finds out, is anyone responsible?

2. Was any of this actually real?

throwitaway222··on Mosquitoes Are a Choice
> The lethal gene

Genetic engineering can suppress mosquitoes: researchers insert a gene into male mosquitoes that means their offspring will not survive, and then release them into the wild, where they mate with females, prevent those females having any surviving offspring, and collapse local populations. In 2000, biologists at the University of Oxford demonstrated that this idea could work in fruit flies. They engineered the flies to carry a gene that makes a protein called tTAV, harmless in small amounts but lethal when it builds up. In the lab, the insects are reared in a medium laced with the antibiotic tetracycline, which keeps the gene switched off. But, in the wild, where there is no tetracycline, the gene switches on, and the offspring die before adulthood.

The fact that this is discussed like this so simply, means it's probably being done to Humans too. I tend to think anything that applies to one thing will apply to all the things at some point. And not because the person writing this is evil - but because at some point someone evil will get their hands on this technology and deploy it at scale.

throwitaway222··on It's Time to Investigate the AI Labs
There is no political willpower to do that. We have literally reached endgame.
throwitaway222··on It's Time to Investigate the AI Labs
But you can't stop someone from connecting AI to something at this point, so your point is moot.

throwitaway222··on Japan moves to tighten rules for foreigners
It's their country, can't they do what they want?

The basic premise is absurd on its face that a country should ever be expected to even allow immigration especially if it does not want it.

throwitaway222··on Does Georgism work? Five years later
Ok, that makes sense to me then. I thought I was going to be taxed for unused land.
throwitaway222··on Does Georgism work? Five years later
I guess here's an issue. I bought 13 acres - mostly because I hate hearing basketballs bouncing, other people's TVs, and "boom cars".

So if we're going to start taxing me at a million per year, can I start taxing those loud people a million a year so I can live in the city to pay for medical bills for my brain to go through the bouncing basketball.

Mind you, everyone else in my area has 10 - 15 acres and it's just a dead area. Just people that ran away from the city. There's absolutely no "value" in this land as no one wants to even be here and drive 40 minutes to get to a grocery store.

throwitaway222··on Toyota is taking the Corolla electric
Not sure how you got one that gets 55mpg, mine gets 44 (47 was on the sticker). But in CA this still beats 100% EV.
throwitaway222··on Humans Are Reading Your ChatGPT Chats, Lawsuit Claims
I would imagine this is covered by the terms and conditions, lawsuit will likely succeed, but should fail.

What we need is a browser plugin that summarizes terms and conditions of any website and highlights the most egregious parts before any connections actually go to said website.

We need to make a law making it punishable to jailtime for posting fake, ghost, harvesting job postings. The proof is things like this - a posting for longer than 90 days.
