And in some communities it's 90% and collected by people driving BMWs.
throwitaway222··on Japan moves to tighten rules for foreigners
It's their country, can't they do what they want?

The basic premise is absurd on its face that a country should ever be expected to even allow immigration especially if it does not want it.

throwitaway222··on Does Georgism work? Five years later
Ok, that makes sense to me then. I thought I was going to be taxed for unused land.
throwitaway222··on Does Georgism work? Five years later
I guess here's an issue. I bought 13 acres - mostly because I hate hearing basketballs bouncing, other people's TVs, and "boom cars".

So if we're going to start taxing me at a million per year, can I start taxing those loud people a million a year so I can live in the city to pay for medical bills for my brain to go through the bouncing basketball.

Mind you, everyone else in my area has 10 - 15 acres and it's just a dead area. Just people that ran away from the city. There's absolutely no "value" in this land as no one wants to even be here and drive 40 minutes to get to a grocery store.

throwitaway222··on Toyota is taking the Corolla electric
Not sure how you got one that gets 55mpg, mine gets 44 (47 was on the sticker). But in CA this still beats 100% EV.
throwitaway222··on Humans Are Reading Your ChatGPT Chats, Lawsuit Claims
I would imagine this is covered by the terms and conditions, lawsuit will likely succeed, but should fail.

What we need is a browser plugin that summarizes terms and conditions of any website and highlights the most egregious parts before any connections actually go to said website.

throwitaway222··on 28% of job postings on company career sites have been open over 90 days
We need to make a law making it punishable to jailtime for posting fake, ghost, harvesting job postings. The proof is things like this - a posting for longer than 90 days.

throwitaway222··on GPT-6 Astra has gained the ability to drive a car
It has not, driving a car requires driving at realistic speeds.

They say there is unlimited reconnaissance at the state level, but not once in my life did a wife or a friend or even an enemy of mine came up and said - I know you were at a bar last night. Shrug. What exactly was told to someone. What was found out?

It's odd that it prefers human culture but hates human civilization, which are one and the same.
throwitaway222··on We got admin access to Baseten's production GitHub
One man operations that are in production - this is the perfect use case for that same person to run an agent to look for credentials that are not used, may have been exposed, etc... And obviously spend some cash on code review agents.
throwitaway222··on 25 years of mass surveillance is enough
Maybe an unpopular opinion, but it's not enough. The threats are real and active.

It may make sense to change security practices so nothing has long term access. Everything should be rotated monthly, and maybe within a few years, hourly.
throwitaway222··on US confirms for first time it has deployed space weapons
I wonder how many collision avoidance maneuvers are performed every day by human drivers. It must be in the trillions.
throwitaway222··on The CSS Zen Garden dream, finally shipped
CSS Zen Garden in the era of agentic software development.... I would say we're at a point where if the entire site was developed in tables or CSS or a Rust based engine emitting wasm positioned elements - no one would care anymore.

Just give me a view and let me operate on things. We're going to have our "LCARS" moment soon. Where no one really needs to create a UI - the system creates one for you at time of use - based on what you're looking at and doing. We're no longer going to need UI/UX, everything will adapt to the person using things.

throwitaway222··on US confirms for first time it has deployed space weapons
At some point they need to remove all the objects that can't do 1000 collision avoidance maneuvers per day.

throwitaway222··on Where has Construction Automation been successful?
Metal roofs for SFHs are mostly beneficial in wildland / forest areas where there are wildfires. Shingles will burn (they're made of petroleum products), while a metal roof will resist far far far longer. However this only makes sense if the rest of the structure is also just as fire resistant.

Metal roofs will also last a lot longer. Their color may not, but the roof itself, as long as it was installed properly (major component here), will outlast asphalt by decades.

throwitaway222··on Where has Construction Automation been successful?
There are but those companies often go out of business quickly because American manufactured home installers suck. In the US manufactured homes are sold by the installer. They do a bank contract with a customer. The escrow process releases funds to either the installer or the actual factory. The factories can definitely produce sections with multiple stories, etc.. but then the installer is then responsible to have crane support and expertise in more complex "marriage lines" than the typical "double or triple wide" single story home.

Once you get into this territory, at least in the US, it makes more economical sense to have a builder create a 2/3 story home.
