throwitaway1235··on Amazon, Apple and Google Cut Off Parler
The market has not judged "pro-violence" speech to be demonetized.

Platforms sanction calls to violent riots from Black Lives Matter and Antifa. So this is all fully based on the political feelings of the platform.

Edit "Platforms also sanction the use of violence by nation states".

throwitaway1235··on Amazon, Apple and Google Cut Off Parler
I'm curious to see how far things have gone.

Does anyone here believe that an employer should be able to fire an employee for supporting Trump?

throwitaway1235··on Lifting Self-Imposed Restrictions on the U.S.-Taiwan Relationship
My first reply was flagged. My question, is it okay for user to say that they strategically support China more than Taiwan and would hope U.S policy eventually follow suit?
throwitaway1235··on How to cook a medieval feast: recipes from the Middle Ages
I enjoy reading the oddest things while I eat, one being medieval cuisine. Oh Pliny the Elder.
throwitaway1235··on New coronavirus strain up to 70% more transmissible
I remember a listening to a podcast interviewing a physician from a major hospital who made sure to explain the difference between an airborne pathogen and one that is respiratory active.

Jogging my memory. Airborne meaning a virus that a person exhales in an elevator (example) will still be present and transmissible x amount of time later. Respiratory active meaning transmissible by coughing/exhaling in the presence of someone else.

These are important distinctions if true and still relevant.

throwitaway1235··on Should There Be Limits on Persuasive Technologies?
I thought about it further and lean towards agreement.

You know what makes it such a subjective question? The cigarette supplier sells a substance with an addictive chemical inside of it. Notifications are not a substance, the drug response is your own chemical (dopamine). Still an interesting question though.

throwitaway1235··on Should There Be Limits on Persuasive Technologies?
I sometimes ask myself, in 20 years will we begin to see class action lawsuits directed at technology platforms that use notification triggered dopamine releases for growing engagement?
throwitaway1235··on U.S. Treasury breached by hackers backed by foreign government – sources
It's common to downvote questions/statements such as-"Has the United States government released evidence to back the claim that the hack was committed by Russia?" and "The word of the United States is not trustworthy to take on face value alone." on Hacker News?

Because that's what I believe.

throwitaway1235··on I Hacked into Facebook's Legal Department Admin Panel
Was a wild guess. I'm not a software engineer. More like a Stewart Cheifet lol. But thank you, very interesting.
throwitaway1235··on I Hacked into Facebook's Legal Department Admin Panel
I don't think demanding a sum of money for a problem that you personally solved could be considered blackmail. I'm not an attorney though.
throwitaway1235··on I Hacked into Facebook's Legal Department Admin Panel
You brilliant guys need to find a way to extract more than $7500 for solutions to problems that less than what, 2%?, of the worlds population can solve.

If I were your tech agent I'd demand Facebook pay out $75,000 minimum for this specific problem.

throwitaway1235··on Vitamin D and Covid-19: evidence and recommendations for supplementation
I think New York City, my place of residence has really dropped the ball on ensuring the health of its residents.

The public service commercials here regarding Covid-19 only mention masks, testing and social distancing. It's been that way for roughly 8 months. How can they possibly not add Vitamin D supplementation to their public guidance?

It makes me skeptical and quite cynical of their competency.

throwitaway1235··on Museum of Bad Album Covers
Black Sabbath: Born Again featuring Deep Purple singer Ian Gillan.

Universally panned cover and horribly produced but I always felt the songs were underrated.

throwitaway1235··on Coca-Cola named world’s worst plastic polluter for third straight year
Coca-cola should be required to bottle their products in glass.

Sometimes the answer to these problems are that straight forward.

throwitaway1235··on Maybe we shouldn't want a fully decentralized web
Controlling human thought at scale, shouldn't be decided by humans. Too much responsibility involved, considering we're all subject to biases.
throwitaway1235··on Excess mortality from March to December of 2020
Would total deaths be a more useful data point? CDC states that 2,839,205 Americans died in the year 2018. https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/deaths.htm

I would be curious to know how many Americans died in 2020, once the year concludes.

throwitaway1235··on “I've had to relearn coding to get through the new interviews”
"Few people own desktop computers anymore."

I will own a desktop computer until the day I die.

Excellent post too.

throwitaway1235··on These are called opportunities
Thank you.
throwitaway1235··on These are called opportunities
Uninitiated, outsider, novice etc question in relation to the topic - is there a reason banking websites are a bloated nightmare to navigate, regardless of my devices capabilities?

Chase is the worst. So slow I've missed credit card payments over it.

throwitaway1235··on Vancouver's empty home tax is increasing to 3% next year
Manhattan needs this.
throwitaway1235··on Amazon hires 427,000 people in 10 months
I have a question on ethics. If Amazon has profited greatly from Covid-19 related lockdowns and restrictions, would it be inappropriate for WaPo, which he owns, to create content that persuades the public to support continued lockdown measures?
throwitaway1235··on Genesys: An Interactive Computer-Mediated Animation System
Did MIT build their own or hardware or are they using an IBM 2250?
throwitaway1235··on The self-driving car is a red herring
No I wouldn't support that. It doesn't scale. Coal work numbers in the 10's of thousands, employment through driving in the 10's of millions.
throwitaway1235··on The self-driving car is a red herring
Autonomous transportation should be banned. The cost of putting 10 million + people out work do not match the benefits.
