throwitaway1235··on US passes emergency waiver over fuel pipeline cyber-attack
Critical data belongs on magnetic tape.

Should have also kept nuclear launch codes on floppy.

throwitaway1235··on How Big Tech got so big: hundreds of acquisitions
At some point in his life Larry Ellison was passionate about something as mundane as a database.
throwitaway1235··on 1 in 5 EV owners in California switched back to gas because charging is a hassle
Charging stations will be as easy to find as gas stations are now, when EV's go beyond niche. They most certainly will, but folks who adopt new technologies first usually run into daily usage hassles.
throwitaway1235··on What's Salesforce? (2019)
"Salesforce’s point-and-click database editor and drag-and-drop UI builder alone make it much more than a CRM. But when you bolt on other apps and 3rd-party APIs, it gets close to programming without code: a new way to build software."

Seems analogous to Wordpress for building websites, without actually knowing how to build websites, yes/no?

throwitaway1235··on Flu has disappeared worldwide during the Covid pandemic
There seems to be a great deal of misunderstanding as to what a normal biome in a human nasal passage looks like. Thousands of different pathogens present at any given time.

Having testable traces of Covid-19 in your septum is not the same thing as having Covid-19 the symptomatic disease. But it's statistically treated the same.

Flu cases have dropped because people aren't being tested for it. If health authorities instructed populations to get flu tests as aggressively as covid-19 tests, flu cases would jump again. Not complicated guys.

throwitaway1235··on The Slander Industry
Oh no. I was just making a random philosophical point. Nothing really to read into. Just that it would be difficult to find examples of organization x criticism, using organization y, if both x & y are partners.
throwitaway1235··on The Slander Industry
And imagine if Google is in bed with corporate media, vice versa? Good luck searching for examples.
throwitaway1235··on The Slander Industry
Off the charts hypocrisy.
throwitaway1235··on Human-monkey chimera embryos created in lab
Layman question. Is it to be assumed that doing what the article suggests between human and pig, is much more difficult if trying to merge a human and a spider?
throwitaway1235··on Forced unemployment and second-class status: Google's data center contractors
This article is a great example of "essential journalism", which is quite rare overall.
throwitaway1235··on Testing a few new designs that don't show the public dislike count
How much do you want to bet the Biden admin made this request of Google because many of his speeches had more dislikes than likes?

They've deleted a bunch of his dislikes in the past.

throwitaway1235··on Do you really want Linux phones
Thank you.
throwitaway1235··on Silicon Valley firms in no hurry to open up offices despite easing of virus ban
The longer you tech guys stay out of the office, the sooner tech corps hire remote workers from overseas at x/x the cost.
throwitaway1235··on Do you really want Linux phones
Can someone explain to the layman (me) why non-Android/Apple phones carry such a hefty price with such poor specs?
throwitaway1235··on They Just Moved to Austin. Now They Want to End One of Its Traditions
I feel like a large parking lot is better for this sort of thing than a residential block. Compromise?
throwitaway1235··on The pandemic has changed the shape of global happiness
Anyone else surprised with how effective American media has been in burying the large anti-lockdown protests throughout Europe?

If you're an average American discouraged by some of the more draconian health measures here, you'd feel pretty isolated and hopeless, not knowing how much solidarity exists throughout the world.

throwitaway1235··on GitHub, fuck your name change
It's disingenuous for an author to disparage racism while being racist in his or her own article.

Rich/privileged White boys is racist. It's framing a race negatively. Gross.

throwitaway1235··on Tusky has been removed from the Play Store
It should be clear by now that Google being the internet is not a net positive.
throwitaway1235··on Gun sales rise in past year, especially among women and African Americans
Young black men are responsible for the recent wave of violence against Asians.

Race is the single greatest predictor of violent crime, not gun legalization, everyone knows this but unfortunately we are a society addicted to lies.

throwitaway1235··on The internet didn’t kill counterculture – you just won’t find it on Instagram
I'd like your thoughts on why their political beliefs are not vulnerable.
throwitaway1235··on The internet didn’t kill counterculture – you just won’t find it on Instagram
DDoSecrets targeted the most vulnerable voices in society, people banished to Gab for their political beliefs. They literally work for the liberal ruling system.
throwitaway1235··on How Facebook got addicted to spreading misinformation
Stop trying to police what people think. It's disgusting.
throwitaway1235··on Facial recognition can predict person’s political orientation with 72% accuracy
This study proves that the liberal surprise face meme is real.
throwitaway1235··on Dr. Seuss books deemed offensive will be delisted from eBay
Just build your own eBay.
throwitaway1235··on Don Lancaster's Guru's Lair Home Page
I see a lot of those Don Lancaster ads in my Byte magazine collection from the late 1970's.
throwitaway1235··on What World War I Can Teach Us about Misjudging Tech and Social Change (2020)
"As of 2020, due to underinvestment, there is no credible Western alternative to Huawei, whose rise and adoption across broad swaths of Asia and Africa, and now Europe, has been subsidized as a national priority project of the People’s Republic of China." - to me that's a strange utterance considering 99% of global mobile OS are IOS or Android, two American innovations.
throwitaway1235··on How Covid brought the future back
I hate remote existence. My 2 cents.
throwitaway1235··on US raises ‘deep concerns’ over WHO report on Covid’s Wuhan origins
It was just a little over a decade ago that the United States killed 300,000 + Iraqis, but it's in vouge to portray China and Russia as the worlds ultimate boogeyman.
throwitaway1235··on US raises ‘deep concerns’ over WHO report on Covid’s Wuhan origins
What are we to make of the National Cancer Institute study that found Covid-19 in Italy as early as September 2019?

throwitaway1235··on A Statement on Recent Events Between Signal and the Anti-Censorship Community
The New York Times published an article just a week ago claiming Signal was "problematic" for affording anonymity. I would assume WaPo feels the same way. No benefit in forwarding to either institution.
