throwfaraway135··on Biology might not be quantum, but its math is quantumlike
At some point we will need to get rid of the artificial boundaries of physics, chemistry and biology. It made sense before when we could only look at things in their locality, but as we improve and see things at better and better resolution having a division will become meaningless.
throwfaraway135··on Where's the Beef?: The lab-grown-meat revolution that wasn't
afaik most people who don't eat meat or would consider synthetic alternatives do so because of moral considerations. We are already super efficient in farming meat, to such degree when that transportation is a bigger factor.
throwfaraway135··on Where's the Beef?: The lab-grown-meat revolution that wasn't
Because every second super processed food is reveled to be carcinogenic or harmful in the long term, why would you take the risk if there is a good alternative? Btw I am also against industrial scale animal farms, those are problematic too, not from a morale but health perspective.
throwfaraway135··on Where's the Beef?: The lab-grown-meat revolution that wasn't
People have fetishized animals so much that creating synthetic goop in the form of flesh somehow got billions in founding. Omnivores eat meat, even herbivores do it sometimes, get over it.
throwfaraway135··on Montreal adopts bylaw banning insults against police, municipal employees
I'm pro people having dignity in their jobs, but considering how unnecessarily complex and sometimes even hostile modern bureaucracy is this is going to remove one feedback mechanism that may have been globally good.
throwfaraway135··on The Feminist Was a Spy
there were some, but considering how monumental it was many people including me consider it a lackluster effort[1]

throwfaraway135··on The Feminist Was a Spy
It is a shame but there are almost no true grassroots political organizations, most of them are payed, bought or employed by someone.

A very good example of this is that we don't see any major feminist rallies against how the government is handling the Epstein files, whose victims where predominately young girls and women.

throwfaraway135··on Are women better than men at endurance running?
I always see this type of articles as sexist, implying that if a sex is better than the other in some sport than that is a sign of superiority.
throwfaraway135··on Statichost.eu – European static site hosting
In our current age none of them.
throwfaraway135··on Statichost.eu – European static site hosting
I don't trust anything governed by the EU government, they will censor/take down anything that's even mildly inconvenient for them.
throwfaraway135··on IBM Bob
Working with any AI tool means you trust the vendor, sometimes you don't have a choice because the best models/tools are from specific providers. IBM isn't a company I would ever trust.
throwfaraway135··on Emily Wilson to retranslate the Odyssey from scratch
I see that translators need to take some liberties when translating something from ancient Greek to modern English, but at what point does it become an interpretation instead of a translation.

Being Nolans "source" for the Odyssey which butchered the original story doesn't help either.

What's funny you can't sell Feta or Parmesan if it's not within some strict limits but you can butcher one of the most important text for the Geeks (or even the Word) and still call it the Odyssey.

throwfaraway135··on You Rename My Lake – I Move My Hosting
my argument is not about who killed whom but:

Historically there is no reason why the US can't call a lake (owned by it or not) whatever it wants.

Other countries will call it what's most convenient (if there is an disagreement they side with whom they are allied or who is stronger in the conflict(Constantinople example)).

People trying to make this a big thing are playing mercenaries for whatever political party is pro or against this. I thing this is a stupid thing to do but making it more than it is wrong, when you have something like the Epstein files people conveniently don't talk about anymore.

throwfaraway135··on You Rename My Lake – I Move My Hosting
If killing/raping/burning the original inhabitants and stealing the city is good enough for the word to call Constantinople Istambul I don't see why the US which owns part of the lake can't call it something else.
throwfaraway135··on You Rename My Lake – I Move My Hosting
No people of power do what they want an regular people don't care until other people of power tell them to care.
throwfaraway135··on You Rename My Lake – I Move My Hosting
calling him king was a satire making fun of him, the fact you didn't catch that is funny
throwfaraway135··on You Rename My Lake – I Move My Hosting
I'm not trolling, people/counties of power do what they want, today the west doesn't call Constantinople Istambul because it's the correct name but because the Turks are stronger than the Greeks. And pretending that this isn't the case is hypocritical to me.
throwfaraway135··on You Rename My Lake – I Move My Hosting
Why shouldn't a country have the right to change the name of something in it's own vocabulary? We change names of streets all the time. If the US wants to call it Lake America or Lake Donald the God Emperor of Mankind or something else that's their problem not the Canadians.
throwfaraway135··on Apple may change 'Lake Ontario' to 'Lake America' soon after talk with Trump
Another day another distraction, just don't think about the Epstein files.

Prediction: the files won't be released even after Trump is out of the White House, independently who wins.

throwfaraway135··on Hollywood's Video Game Era Is Here. Will It Be Any Good?
Western game studios are failing, look at Ubisoft, Bungie, and a dozen Xbox studios, most of which are collapsing due to a sheer lack of creativity. How Hollywood, which is going through its own dark patch, expects to find creative inspiration in a dying (western) video game medium is beyond me.
throwfaraway135··on Twitter Viewer – View Twitter Without Account
Because whatever you think of how Musk is running Twitter it's still the most pro freedom of speech platform out there. You can hear ideas(propaganda) from almost all major players, while a UN-operated global social media would be even more censored than reddit.
throwfaraway135··on Apple introduces M6 and M5 Ultra
The game is considered part of the culture war, but that's not the reason I was surprised to see it, apple is a left leaning company so there is nothing strange about them choosing it from a political perspective.

What was surprising was to showcase a game that would run on a potato as the "look it's a capable gaming machine" segment. While you could have choose BG3, any newer AC, The Last of Us remasters etc. all of which are a much better fit. Of course they don't have the name of Larry Ellison associated with it.

throwfaraway135··on Apple introduces M6 and M5 Ultra
"M6 features a powerful, larger 12-core GPU that provides higher geometry rates and updated Dynamic Caching to deliver stunning visuals and fluid frame rates in demanding games like Mixtape."

Why choose the worst game of the year? Just because it's made by the daughter of Larry Ellison?

throwfaraway135··on Grand jury declines to indict Ohio man charged with destroying Flock camera
Life is considered the highest value in the west. So let me ask you this. Is the life of a person less worth than your privacy?
throwfaraway135··on I like 'em thick: an apology to my English teachers
One reason we see so much thinning in the current media(books, films, music etc.) is that old western/European media is considered tainted by history, so you need to reinvent or change it sufficiently to be different.
throwfaraway135··on Devices with GrapheneOS support should be available in 2027
I get that you don't like Twitter/Facebook/Reddit or whatever, but a clear solution to this problem is to hurt googles public image as much as you can and for that you need a platform with as large of a reach as possible.

edit: they have X but didn't post it there https://x.com/GrapheneOS

throwfaraway135··on Claude: System Prompts
Crazy that you need to hardcode this, Opus 4.6

<election_info> There was a US Presidential Election in November 2024. Donald Trump won the presidency over Kamala Harris. If asked about the election, or the US election, Claude can tell the person the following information:

Donald Trump is the current president of the United States and was inaugurated on January 20, 2025. Donald Trump defeated Kamala Harris in the 2024 elections. Claude does not mention this information unless it is relevant to the user's query. </election_info>

throwfaraway135··on Controversial creators are benefiting from monetization programs run by Meta
Not paying is a form of censorship.
throwfaraway135··on Controversial creators are benefiting from monetization programs run by Meta
There is no solution based on censorship that doesn't undermine democracy. If you want Facebook to censor people/content/ideas that you don't like it is going also to censor vital information needed for a democracy to work.

The best solution for now seams to be what twitter is doing with community notes.

throwfaraway135··on The Water Footprint of AI
I agree that water is an important resource but the wording of "consumption" always rubbed me the wrong way. Is the water contaminated with chemicals? Maybe heat? Can people or wildlife consume it? Can you use rainwater?
