I'm not straight, yet I hate on the rainbow crowd, and I never mention it because it's fucking cringe to bring these things up outside of personal discussions in person. It helps gatekeep small, niche communities that have been infested by people looking to cancel top developers, maintainers, project leaders.

Meet in person. Have a Facebook group for family stuff. Make rules for no politics and such from the get go. Make people understand that you are the admin and will remove them if they do t behave. I guess that covers it.

I got into miniature painting. First just figures to play games with, but then moved to busts and larger (75mm) display pieces. I pretty much have dedicated myself to these at one point. I still go out to local gaming stores to enjoy games with people, made friends that way to hang with, but what brought real peace to my mind is practicing art on a daily basis.
