throwawaysleep··on Fed hikes rates as inflation worries push up bond yields
Isn't the goal then demand destruction?
throwawaysleep··on Ask HN: What if we had to come back?
Do people generally take good care of their health? I do not think so. So if they will not care about even the present, why would making them return make them care about the future?
throwawaysleep··on Anthropic tells investors it will be profitable for second straight quarter
Any business where people are looking at a screen should probably sell ads.
throwawaysleep··on Anthropic tells investors it will be profitable for second straight quarter
> The profitability of being able to serve a query wasn't really under question (nor is the margin expected to be anything less than 80%+) I think.

HN had long debates about whether AI inference could even be affordable from a compute perspective.

throwawaysleep··on Ask HN: What if we had to come back?
It wouldn't change a thing.

People have to live in their bodies. Do they care for them? No.

throwawaysleep··on The Waymo effect: how AI is quietly making research less collaborative
People aren't treating it as a thoughtful contribution. It is more of a flag, like "spam".
throwawaysleep··on "Radical responsibility" means treating people like tools
> And if you do that, you’ll sometimes assign praise and blame to them, instead of hoarding it all to yourself.

I mean, if things are going well, the logical thing to do is to hoard it.

throwawaysleep··on Discovery of a new OpenAI agent message board
The problem with applying Hanlon's Razor here is that it presumes malice is rare. The current administration revels in malice. They very openly decide things based on malice.

Painters with broad strokes have done extremely well the past few decades.
throwawaysleep··on Trump considers renaming Lake Ontario to 'Lake America' as trade war escalates
Americans are such unserious people.
throwawaysleep··on If your agent commits a crime, who is responsible?
But it is currently a strong mitigating factor. The law is full of oopsie defenses.
throwawaysleep··on If your agent commits a crime, who is responsible?
The US military seems like an organization where there is very little accountability given all the people they kill in training accidents, the number of procurement mishaps they have, or their continuous inability to pass an audit.

So I imagine that if the military is the guidance for how we handle this in the future, there will be paperwork, shrugs, and perhaps some performative rage when an agent commits a crime.

throwawaysleep··on [dead]
It is well past the point where writing off bad behaviour as probably a joke is a reasonable thing to do with Trump as he as consistently not been joking about many things people have claimed he is joking about.
throwawaysleep··on Robinhood CEO Says 'Business Has Never Been Stronger' Then Cuts 10% of Workforce
AI makes certain types of people, like those who need to be trained, obsolete.
throwawaysleep··on Ryanair dark UX patterns summer 2026 refresher
Eh, we might be all better off if a lack of curiosity was more regularly financially excruciating.
throwawaysleep··on Moving away from Tailwind, and learning to structure my CSS
That’s the value of tailwind. You can just skip learning CSS and still get a good result. The benefit to learning it is marginal.
throwawaysleep··on Investigation uncovers two sophisticated telecom surveillance campaigns
BigTech is far more competent than a Telco though.
throwawaysleep··on Investigation uncovers two sophisticated telecom surveillance campaigns
Most breaches are not in the interests of management, but they happen anyway as management wants to save money or doesn't understand how it could happen.
throwawaysleep··on Investigation uncovers two sophisticated telecom surveillance campaigns
> And obviously, a simple email to the data governance and privacy office would be taken extremely seriously.

What is this based on? I used to work for a data governance and privacy vendor that supplied data for audits. Tons and tons of customers asked us to fudge their data.

This is after the Delve scandal, where the hottest tech compliance company was completely fraudulent and numerous other hot tech companies also had completely fraudulent audits.

This is not a reasonable assumption.

throwawaysleep··on Investigation uncovers two sophisticated telecom surveillance campaigns
Cops are too dumb to comprehend that. They would proclaim it impossible and order more donuts.

Most simple criminals get away with their crimes. Anyone with any level of sophistication does as well.

throwawaysleep··on Ask HN: In your job with all the AI go-go/execution velocity – are you lonely?
Anecdotally, I am consulting for a few of these and they are nowhere near that, haha.

Everything still requires 5 approvals, so the challenge now is scrambling for attention.

The UAE is a bunch of absolute monarchies. You are applying the processes of a democracy to hereditary absolute monarchies.
throwawaysleep··on Ask HN: What's the point in creating a startup when anyone can copy it in days?
Distribution is a whole other animal.
throwawaysleep··on Anna's Archive loses $322M Spotify piracy case without a fight
And we would be stupid to give them as access to cheese afterward. They had that chance and blew it.

There is unlikely to be any thaw within our lifetimes.

throwawaysleep··on U.S. exempts oil industry from protecting Gulf animals, for 'national security'
Trump is also often anti capitalist, between tariffs and government shares in business. There is what fascists say and what they do, and industrialists were often very good Nazis.
throwawaysleep··on U.S. exempts oil industry from protecting Gulf animals, for 'national security'
They are pretty much openly that way.
throwawaysleep··on Is anybody else bored of talking about AI?
A friend and I have a contract with a local university here in Canada.

They paid for custom on prem software and in over a year, they have not fully provided both access and infrastructure for install it.

We have been paid already, but they paid for a tool they can’t get their shit together enough to let us install.

throwawaysleep··on Overcoming the friendship recession
Depends? Are those more narrow one’s better and people have a better idea of what ideal looks like?

I’m kind of horrified at people saying they had/have to work at their best friendships as with my best friends, everything is seamless.

There are no misunderstandings. We never have to forgive each other. We never even need to clarify things for each other much, as we are that well aligned.

Granted it may not be possible, but ideally go find a better match in a friend.

throwawaysleep··on US national debt surges past $39 Trillion
I think we should want to disincentivize any person from having too much power and wealth is power.
