throwawaylaptop··on South Korea police say 120k home cameras hacked for 'sexploitation' footage
The women cheating would land in jail?

Or the guy installing obvious cameras in his house that his wife knows about and agrees to have there?

throwawaylaptop··on South Korea police say 120k home cameras hacked for 'sexploitation' footage
Thank you. Words matter.

I notice most gfs these days resort to "why do I have to..." when upset. Which bothers me because I have never ever said someone MUST do anything.

There are many things a person should do. But almost nothing they actually have to do.

I used to work in car sales, and now do construction saas sales and interact with the workers a lot. So 95% male coworkers/friends.

And since I'm in sales overall I have a lot of friends and I talk a lot. And I like to drink, and guys with relationship troubles are driven to drink and gravitate to me during that stage of their life.

And I'm single at 40, so I hear about a lot of relationship trouble because I'm easier to talk to than a married guy which doesn't exactly want to hear about cheating and failed relationships.

Obviously. Although it also adds fake excuses about location and time frames to the mix. The cameras also work to make a wife think twice about going out on Thursday night and telling her husband she's gone to sleep.

A friend, that never would have dreamt about using cameras like this, only found out his wife was cheating when she had a major car crash at 3am returning from her affair partners house. He was at a national lab where he works the night shift.

Hah. When I write concrete statements someone always comes by and says that's wrong, or a bigoted view. So Ive been trying to see if letting people figure out the obvious answer themselves works better.

Obviously the place without headphones do way better.

throwawaylaptop··on School cell phone bans and student achievement
I work in construction saas of a certain kind, and when I visit customers there is a very very clear difference in quality/size/revenue in companies that allow headphones and those that don't.

I'll let you decide which ones you think are doing better.

I also know people that installed gps trackers and audio listening devices in cars to verify cheating. Everyone that needed to verify for their own sanity did indeed find proof.

Fyi, this was amongst car salesman. But I can't say the 10%+ stat is too far off for other industries too.

throwawaylaptop··on South Korea police say 120k home cameras hacked for 'sexploitation' footage
In regards to how often people cheat in marriage (the stats are a bit sad), or of someone using cameras to deter it from happening?
throwawaylaptop··on Is 2026 next year?
I'm sad to say it works on me. Sometimes I know I want an AI response. Instead of going to an AI provider, I just type the prompt into the url bar and Google via enter. Because I'll know I'll get googled AI blurb.

I used to write my search query in search terms, now I write it as an AI prompt.

throwawaylaptop··on South Korea police say 120k home cameras hacked for 'sexploitation' footage
I have two friends that installed them to basically deter their wives from cheating at their house when they are away. You could argue it's to 'catch' but obviously they aren't even going to attempt it knowing the cameras are present.

My parents older windows 10 laptop was getting slow and battery wasn't great.

They bought a new windows 11 laptop from Costco for $600. Yes cheap, but not total garbage.

Tried using it for a few weeks. Worse performance that their 6 year old similarly cheap laptop running windows 10.

Returned new computer. I installed Linux Mint Mate and bought an Chinese battery for $30. Laptop better than new.

throwawaylaptop··on Amazon faces FAA probe after delivery drone snaps internet cable in Texas
Considering the distance from one delivery to the next in a van is short, and the warehouse to town distance is split via a hundred packages, it just has to be the electric van. Maybe things will make more sense if the drone can carry 20 lightweight packages. But even then you gotta wonder how much energy it takes to hover/fight gravity the entirety of the trip.

I do talk to actual teachers at many social events, and IMO they are a joke. Maybe it's hard to get this across in short messages.

Maybe take a look at reading and math proficiency rates... And then add in the fact that many kids propping up those stats are basically part time home schooled by parents after school and on the weekend to makeup for the lacking teachers.

throwawaylaptop··on Amazon faces FAA probe after delivery drone snaps internet cable in Texas
You should really consider how much energy it takes to levitate an 80lb drone while flying across town, compared to how much energy it takes to roll an 8000lb van across town (even ignoring the fact that the van might deliver 100 packages while making it's way across town).

When I said government employees make above market, I didn't mean for the general area average.. I meant for the work they do.

Should a city landscape truck driver make $250k because his truck drives around a rich town? No, he should make what other people in this kind of industry make.

throwawaylaptop··on Three Years from GPT-3 to Gemini 3
I personally am not of the belief that anyone making under $90k a year is dumb. I believe if you were selective, you could take smart motivated people from other industries that don't pay much but still have smart employees, and have them do a great job teaching.
throwawaylaptop··on Three Years from GPT-3 to Gemini 3
Yes it's possible for a woman to remain single at 30, she isn't that bright. The ones that got married younger probably are a bit smarter.
throwawaylaptop··on Three Years from GPT-3 to Gemini 3
I date a lot of teachers. My last one was in the San Ramon (CA) Valley School district, she makes about $90k a year at 34 years old. Talking to her basically makes me want to homeschool my kids to make sure someone like her isn't their teacher. Paying teachers more won't do ANYTHING until we become a lot more selective about who gets to become and stay a teacher. It can't be like most government jobs where getting it is like winning the lottery and knowing you can make above market money for below market performance.
throwawaylaptop··on EVs are depreciating faster than gas-powered cars
Those cars are often bought and fixed and sold on the market. Others go for parts to keep the rest on the roads.
throwawaylaptop··on EVs are depreciating faster than gas-powered cars
I suppose, but most people don't crash their cars that often. If they did, insurance would basically be unaffordable for most people just based on statistics of how much they'd have to pay out. No one in my family has had a major crash in 25 years.. most people I know haven't. Like all other things, I think it's a pretty skewed distribution. I dated a girl once that got rear-ended several times by age 30... You can tell something about her driving from that. Her record will show she's not at fault ever and gets good rates, but she causes accidents.
throwawaylaptop··on EVs are depreciating faster than gas-powered cars
I agree. I've had a 300k mile Silverado and currently own a 210k mile Volt. The thing that's basically hanging over the Volts head is a battery problem you almost can't even test for. The gas motor is doing just great.
throwawaylaptop··on EVs are depreciating faster than gas-powered cars
Maybe on the older models. But I'm a sucker for buying high miles cars, and you simply won't even FIND a high miles Audi A7 for example. You'll find cheap ones sure, for $5k even, with 150k miles and multiple issues the owner can't afford to fix. I've never even seen a 200k mile Audi for sale near me, and I'm in a huge major metro area.

What does this have to do with calling a criminal telling them that the sheriff is on their way to their house to serve a warrant?
throwawaylaptop··on EVs are depreciating faster than gas-powered cars
I love my Chevy Volt. But I can't recommend a $5k volt to any of my friends wanting a cheap car. Because when you buy a $5k Toyota, it's basically never a random sensor glitch away from costing you $5k+ even at an independent. But volts are inside their battery pack.
throwawaylaptop··on EVs are depreciating faster than gas-powered cars
The reason the average ice car doesn't last 200k miles is because car purchases are amazingly irrational. Other than a few unlucky models, basically any Toyota or Honda will go over 200k miles. I own two 250k mile Toyota/Lexus vehicles and expect another 100k from them easily. But people buy Dodge sedans and vans, jaguars and range rovers, Audis and Kias.... Because they basically don't care for getting 200k miles. Realistically if you buy a ice car that is known for lasting 200k, it will easily do it.

Critical thinking is long gone from most, and this site is now popular enough, and cs is main stream enough, that a good majority of this site even barely thinks beyond what fluff was put in front of them.
throwawaylaptop··on Why Self-Host?
I operate an entire saas with 34 paying smb companies, on namecheap shared hosting. PHP/jQuery. While namecheaps time to first bit is a little longer than some, my saas is still faster than 90% of CRMs I've ever used because that was my main goal when writing it.
throwawaylaptop··on Apple defined ICE as a "protected class" in blocking anti-ICE apps
What is it they are enforcing then? I once showed up in Vietnam without my tourist visa approved correctly (long story). Let me tell you, they take that stuff very seriously. Canada won't even let you visit Canada if youve had a DUI in recent years. A semifamous comedian wasn't allowed entry into Canada 20 years after he got charged with some form of statutory rape at 18. (He and two friends, 18 to 20, pressured a 16 year old into sex. Heavily contested). Yet we are supposed to let people in without documentation? Without background checks? What kind of insanity is that.
throwawaylaptop··on Apple defined ICE as a "protected class" in blocking anti-ICE apps
They're some kind of law enforcement agency that is on a mission to capture people breaking laws.

If your local sheriff is on their way to serve a warrant of some kind, and you call the person and warn them to leave or alert them to destroy evidence, is that going to go well? I don't think it should.
