throwaway87543··on SAP stops most travel and hiring because of AI's soaring cost
If AI was actually making you more profitable, you wouldn't need to be cost cutting to avoid bankruptcy.
throwaway87543··on A big win for Android interoperability
The monopoly/gatekeeping effect of an OS developer making apps that compete with independent apps has such an easy solution. The OS must not give private api's or special permissions to its in-house apps. Don't try to fight the gatekeeping feature by feature, that is whack-a-mole.

Bonus points if you require the primary UI (window manager in the language of the ancients) to be an installable app.

throwaway87543··on Judge Rejects Google's Attempt to DMCA Its Way Out of Being Scraped
Google crawling respects robots.txt and doesn't break capcha. It is easy to tell Google to piss off. SerpAPI fully relies on end-user proxies distributed like malware (in LG tv apps for instance), it has no other way it could function because it exclusively ingests data from sources that tell it to stop. If you wanted to scrape a bot friendly site, you wouldn't need SerpApi

throwaway87543··on First 6 days of Iran war cost $11.3B
Ground invasion would literally be Vietnam again. And don't say they'll never do it. Reports from classified briefings indicate a draft is seriously being considered.
throwaway87543··on Someone needs to go to jail
Campaign finance laws were set up tell you where the line is. There needs to be a line because the amount of reach you have should not grow with your wealth. But Citizens United made the money as speech an unlimited right. Spending $250 is a completely different category than spending $250 million.
throwaway87543··on Zuckerberg's "fix" for child safety could end anonymous internet access for all
Authentication & Authorization is a OS feature. But instead of the OS collecting everyone's age, just give parents the ability to verify their child's phone is in child lockdown mode. Then the phone narc's to the website: "the user is under age". Not "the user was born on Feb 29 2001." We can rely on parenting to ensure a child doesn't have a non child mode phone. Enable parents, not control everyone.
throwaway87543··on TikTok users can't upload anti-ICE videos. The company blames tech issues
TikTok USDS Joint Venture LLC is only within the US (controlled by Larry Ellison). You still get ByteDance.
throwaway87543··on The LLMentalist Effect
Some people seem to want to believe that true thought is spiritual in nature. They will never accept that something physical and made by man could do it. They would stop believing humans are intelligent if given conclusive proof of how the brain works.
throwaway87543··on Epic vs. Google: Google Loses
Pardon me, didn’t Apple win the exact same suit by Epic? Apple’s app store is fine, but Google’s isn’t?

But is it possible to extract that much energy from the tides with current techniques? That starting point in their math may be invalid. But it is good to know that not very much energy is available from the tides.

Looks like every time a lemmy instance gets posted, that instance gets nuked off the planet. Maybe if you want to post something from lemmy, you should find the mirror on lemmy.world or lemmy.directory and see if that can handle the traffic.
