Maybe using git notes for the conversation or conversation summary is better.
throwaway7783··on PostgreSQL for Everything
My go-to has been replicas for each use case, with well defined semantics for replication lags. I'm working on something that does most of this seamlessly (transactional, search, columnar & time series, vectors and queues) without having to bother about extension management, replication setup or tuning.

Hopefully there is some value in this - one click multipurpose postgres fleet.

throwaway7783··on Stripe to Buy OpenRouter for $7B
It is not just the software. Let's not forget the existing customer base, an opportunity cost to build something as mature as openrouter (even with LLMs). Perhaps it is worth it for them.

We keep reinventing everything. Eclipse style plugins from a long time back

Also a very nice attack surface.
throwaway7783··on Making Postgres 300x faster for analytics: batching, operator fusion, and SIMD
This is a great project. Thank you!

A question on 20s postgresql time - It does not look like you are accounting for reading data from disk? Wouldn't the aggregation query have to load data from disk first? Or is it somewhat guaranteed that the table is already in memory? The Rust version is clearly in memory (I am no rust expert, so that may not even be actually in memory, if its a generator).

Is this the Galleria test?
throwaway7783··on The Valley of Webhooks
Absolutely. I have been so livid at so many applications for not providing a decent CDC API (and dont forget deletes). Salesforce perhaps is the best out there. Imagine if every application exposed a standard CDC API, the world of integrations would be so much better.

Webhooks are fine, but a pollable API is a must have. The amount of hacks I had to do at work to workaround shitty APIs gives me nightmares.

throwaway7783··on The "Disability Dongle": Why Silicon Valley Hates Me and You
While it is frustrating, I do think disability is a bug (I have some). Just like I take medicines to manage my condition, or use glasses to read better (I don't ask everything to be made bigger - the text on pages in a book - I use an aid) - I really believe technology is the answer to many issues. Implementation is always political/controlled by vested interests, but throwing innovation and Silicon Valley under the bus is not the answer. I'd rather hope the blender blending brick today will be as silent as an electric car one day.

Sometimes the world just is, and I will take whatever technology can give me to handle it.

Isn't this the direction Claude on the web is going towards? It's a mix of message view on the left and specific interactive UI on the right panel. There is also MCP Apps spec now
throwaway7783··on Removing React.js from the codebase and adapting Htmx for UI interactivity (2023)
That second point is almost never true " the same REST/data API can serve your website and other consumers, e.g. any native mobile apps or third party API consumers"

In a reasonably complex application, each interface ends up needing its own shape of optimized APIs. Otherwise the clients become very complex munging/reshaping data or making too many API calls, throwing away a lot of data etc.

throwaway7783··on What is happening to jobs? Separating AI hype from reality
Yes, but very few people are on that edge of product and technology. From that angle LLMs are destroying the junior engineer dev market
throwaway7783··on What is happening to jobs? Separating AI hype from reality
I agree on this one. Junior developers are not yet good guiding hands yet. But for the motivated junior developers LLMs are a great onboarding and learning tool. A good senior engineer must still guide, and there are very large gaps on how it's being done
throwaway7783··on What is happening to jobs? Separating AI hype from reality
I don't think it is "you are using it wrong". It is just that originally mediocre programmers still generate mediocre output (or worse sometimes) faster and originally good programmers generate good quality output faster. LLMs have not changed that yet.
throwaway7783··on What is happening to jobs? Separating AI hype from reality
Yes. It is always people. Every tool will have limitations, including LLMs.

We actually have trendlines on user reported bugs, and I am happy to report they show a significant downtrend.

throwaway7783··on What is happening to jobs? Separating AI hype from reality
"unless you're content with producing low quality work." - With the right guiding hand, it is a productivity multiplier without compromising quality. As a fully autonomous developer, it is a disaster.
throwaway7783··on India's first privately-developed rocket reaches orbit on debut launch
I haven't followed Indian politics in a while, but I don't understand the "real democracy" comment. Can you elaborate on this? Or is it because Modi won three elections in a row?
throwaway7783··on Moonshot AI suspends new subscriptions due to Kimi K3 demand
What do these workflows do? I can't think of anything that needs to run for so long.

throwaway7783··on Short sellers notch $8.7B profit as SpaceX shares dip to IPO price
Does anyone think here shortselling should be banned?
throwaway7783··on Show HN: Watch bots interact with an SSH honeypot in real time
Very cool! Adding a client geo would be nice (even if its not very accurate)
throwaway7783··on An Englishwoman who sketched India before photography took hold
No one is in denial. The parent post is just explaining why, and not that the problem doesn't exist.

The biggest issue we have is the mindset of the common (wo)man, regardless of why it is the way it is.

Right after the Islamic and British invasions
throwaway7783··on Claude Code sends 33k tokens before reading the prompt; OpenCode sends 7k
This has been my experience as well. Something happened 2-3 months ago with Claude Code. It got slower, starting spinning and getting stuck more and more. I gave codex another shot out of my Claude frustrations, and have never looked back again.

Just tried Claude Code yesterday, and nope, it's the same old bad.

A dirt yard is sufficient if it was to show off land. Grass is not required

In SaaS quality is one of the problems that cause churn. Value, price and politics also play a big role - now matter how good or bad the product quality is

throwaway7783··on The Coming Loop
In most half-decent codebases, including LLM generated ones, adding new features almost never requires a refactoring in my experience. It is almost always when you are fixing bugs, improving performance or changing core behavior.
