throwaway67743··on Transfer files over an Ethernet patch cable
But... link local precludes the need to configure addressing, even without v6, broadcast ethernet frames exist... why do people keep posting dumb solutions to already solved problems?
throwaway67743··on Self hosted email continues to steeply decline
My point has landed, or whatever an LLM would say.
throwaway67743··on Self hosted email continues to steeply decline
Or perhaps: correct.
throwaway67743··on Self hosted email continues to steeply decline
But is it really? Low effort content might be the majority, but does that make it common enough to be a cosmetic annoyance like website styling? I'm not sure it does anyway because the content is the issue, not the styling or annoyances. A human written article with an idiot neon scrolling, blinking title would be fine. A plain text LLM article would not. One is objectively more annoying than the other.

"(Blog author) runs the email infrastructure measurement project at Live Direct Marketing" - really? amazing.

minimum effort business model posting minimum effort slop to promote minimum effort agenda. the world disgusts me. RIPE really should know better, this isn't a mistake.

edit: fuck me, from the author page:

Email: art-online-shop@yandex.ru Website: https://check.live-direct-marketing.online/email-stats/

- may as well be a spam email itself

you are inverse to basically everyone with an education, is the problem. LLM content is the polar opposite - it immediately drains anyone with even a modest amount of attention span or intelligence due to the way it phrases and does linguistic gymnastics for absolutely zero benefit to anyone. All in an attempt to look impressive, like humans used to do by using words they don't understand.

I enforce strict spec and behaviour compliance, as well as policies (SPF, dkim, etc). Aside from a very small number of well known spam/abuse sources, it's largely from legitimate mail accounts on Gmail/outlook etc. or idiot msps.
throwaway67743··on Self hosted email continues to steeply decline
That might apply to some things, but there is little to no value in this article, so the economics are the same as the spam - cheap to spew garbage while providing no value and wasting the readers time. It's not something that should be encouraged. RIPE should know better.
throwaway67743··on Self hosted email continues to steeply decline
Oh you.
throwaway67743··on Self hosted email continues to steeply decline
That would work if most spam wasn't from the cartel. I receive single digit percentage of "spam" from randoms, 95%+ is from Gmail/Google, o365 or mailgun/whatever. Not one of them can either filter their users or actually action abuse reports.
throwaway67743··on Self hosted email continues to steeply decline
I'm sure it's a good article but there is no need for it to be written by an LLM... Is everyone really this lazy now? I don't think I've read anything written by a human for at least a full month.

throwaway67743··on Oracle cut its Always Free ARM limits to 2 OCPU / 12GB, enforced Aug 18
Reddit,even oracle forums, 99% complaints about free stuff not being available. It's why people don't offer this more regularly - instead of people being gracious it's like they're entitled to it.
throwaway67743··on Oracle cut its Always Free ARM limits to 2 OCPU / 12GB, enforced Aug 18
But it's an honest take!
throwaway67743··on Oracle cut its Always Free ARM limits to 2 OCPU / 12GB, enforced Aug 18
It's a negative product line, even half is still negative. People really need to start being grateful while whoring free services....
throwaway67743··on Oracle cut its Always Free ARM limits to 2 OCPU / 12GB, enforced Aug 18
It was communicated beginning the middle of June but it's taken them a couple of months to get round to actually doing it - it's not at all reasonable to criticise given the offering. Or even any offering, nobody else even comes close. Also OCI is just technically better than every other cloud, always was. And cheaper. Also their suggestion is to upgrade to "PAYG" as it has been for several years.
throwaway67743··on Oracle cut its Always Free ARM limits to 2 OCPU / 12GB, enforced Aug 18
The A1 has been available for 6 years without a rug pull or reductions until now on a very overly generous offering - whatever you think of oracle, it's something else. My instances from 2020 are still running...
throwaway67743··on Show HN: We Fixed UniFi's Slow PPPoE Performance with PPPoE Half-Bridge
Idiot majority does not make it correct. But that page makes it absolutely clear that apparently nobody understands how PPP actually works (hint: addressing is not PPP)
throwaway67743··on Show HN: We Fixed UniFi's Slow PPPoE Performance with PPPoE Half-Bridge
There is really so much failure in this post: crappy vendor, misunderstanding how PPP actually works (it requires no addressing at all), using "half bridge" (idiot term) instead of just using it properly. I swear people are even less informed than 20 years ago, it's very sad.
throwaway67743··on Kimi K3 exploited the latest Redis server
I just gave K3 a whirl via opencode and it was incredibly disappointing - sonnet level dumb with very similar behaviour (churning, tangents etc). It couldn't figure out a very simple issue between two commits.
throwaway67743··on Claude Code is steganographically marking requests
This caught my eye not because of shady behaviour like that, it's expected. But the date is injected and it still gets the current date wrong.
throwaway67743··on SOCKMAP - TCP splicing of the future
Interestingly, HN also appears to be Claude. My comment was 5 days ago, along with the post. But now it's showing as 15 hours ago. It still says 5 days on my comments list though.

(The Claude reference was because dates utterly confound it)

Hello Claude!
throwaway67743··on Fedora 43 Upgrade revealed 20 years old Outlook Security Bug
The more pressing question is why plain text authentication, or even a plain text listener was configured to begin with, in 2026 (really, 2016, being generous). STARTTLS is not a valid reason.

throwaway67743··on Claude Opus 4.8
Question is, can it understand dates now? Example just now:

"The PO application was filed on 23.2.2026, the day before the custody hearing scheduled for 29.1.2026 had already taken place."

Claude has real problems with dates, I don't understand why.

throwaway67743··on 245TB Micron 6600 ION Data Center SSD Now Shipping
That only works if the market is not controlled by basically 3 vendors and if the market isn't also pretty much impossible to break into. The value proposition is tenuous at best, the real value is being produced in other arenas, not this one.
throwaway67743··on Anthropic raises Claude Code usage limits, credits new deal with SpaceX
Yeah I was using it for legal stuff (a couple of months ago it was actually really good and with a bit of hand holding produced legal documents that judges could not distinguish from an actual lawyer - in a foreign language with a foreign legal system) and on average a single prompt or reply on mobile was ~2% of 5hr Pro usage, vs ~10 on webui. But not only does it now produce garbage, but maybe 5-6 replies and I'm already approaching the limit.
throwaway67743··on Anthropic raises Claude Code usage limits, credits new deal with SpaceX
Saw this and yet... My usage of Claude has tanked (codex is better), but on the occasions I do use it (mostly for non-code), I blow through the 5hr usage super fast. Specifically on their Android app the accounting was different: same project, same content, same prompts, same output - but on mobile the usage was a fraction of the same query as their web UI. But that has seemingly been addressed recently also :(
throwaway67743··on Google Cloud fraud defense, the next evolution of reCAPTCHA
To counter the idiot downvotes, I proffer this as a prime example of Gemini:

  Resolving Final Compilation Conflict: I will remove the redundant `Entry` type declaration to resolve the compilation conflict and finalize the in-memory `StdNetDB` refactor.

    Edit  std.go → Accepted (+0, -1)

      31   type Entry struct {
      32       RouterInfo *router_info.RouterInfo
      33   }
      34 -
      34   func NewStdNetDB(db string) *StdNetDB {
      35       ctx, cancel := context.WithCancel(context.Background())
      36       return &StdNetDB{
That and the cli keeps exiting 0, without hinting why... Quality like the "AI Overview" that hijacks an entire page and isn't even relevant to the search terms - uBlock still doing god's work.

It made me realise I was perhaps a bit hard on Claude (but then it did something equally as dumb)
