throwaway6356··on Warning Signs in Experimental Design and Interpretation (2007)
> Lack of Double-Blind Studies

"We know there is a placebo effect wherein patients do better when they are told they are receiving a treatment: the patients' expectations play a role in their recovery. To make sure we are studying the effect of the treatment itself and not the patients' expectations, it is better to give all patients the same expectation. So we tell them, for example, "take this pill, it might be experimental drug X or it might be a sugar pill." The double-blind part is important because we don't want the experimenters to subconsciously tip off the subjects as to what group they are in, nor to treat one group differently than the other, nor to analyze the results differently."

one thing that always strikes me about double-blind placebo based studies is that they are often testing a substance with a detectable physiological effect against an inert substance with no detectable physiological effect.

this methodology seems fundamentally flawed. if you want a true test you would need to compare against a placebo that has a similar (or at least detectable) physiological effect but is not expected to produce any efficacious outcome. otherwise the person getting the real drug feels the physiological effect and gets a placebo effect while the person getting the placebo does not.

It is a gag order on Asssange: He is prohibited from "carrying out activities that could be considered political and interference in the internal affairs of other states, or that may cause harm to the good relations of Ecuador with any other state".

Going through his lawyers and explicitly saying that this is a confidential legal document is a way to get press for his case while not technically violating the conditions.

> selectively releasing true facts that support your agenda or actively harm your opponent, at very specific times when its most advantageous for you to do it

anyone can claim this about any media report that is negative to them. bottom line is: don't do dirt if you don't want it brought to the light.

> actively working with Russian Intelligence to destabilize western civilization

if there was any actual evidence of this I am sure we would have seen it by now.

> If Wikileaks had their way I don't think you'd like the NWO that Putin and China would build for us

this is nothing but evidence free conspiracy theorizing.

> The ridiculous hypocrisy

they are legally required to do this because to make a public statement would be a violation of the gag order he is under.

isn't the role of every media organization to affect the outcome of elections, by revealing true facts to the public?

democracy dies in the dark you know.

> insanity, illusion of grandeur and narcissism

they did change the outcome of a US election, and probably the course of world history, which is more than all of the anti-trump media combined, so that is a pretty big accomplishment ...
