Google's experimentation with AI extends beyond ad sales, encompassing its customer support service as well. The integration of AI in customer support is expected to directly influence the human-centric aspects of the company's operations.

throwaway29303··on I quit my job as Google's Chief Decision Scientist
TL;DR -

The real reason I quit was that I had promised myself that I would never spend more than 10 years at a company that I didn’t start myself. My deadline was coming up fast. And that deadline was a good thing; I was getting far too comfortable. I was cheerfully handing over my best ideas without taking a stab at developing them in the wild.

throwaway29303··on Rewind Pendant: a wearable that captures what you say and hear
It seems only a few learned a thing with Google Glass[0]. These devices are way ahead of our time. We're currently in a time and space where implementing these ideas only serve to tighten the elite's control over people.

Stop producing these things. Thank you.

throwaway29303··on Ask HN: Is there a part within you rooting against self-driving tech?
I agree with this and add that it's especially repugnant when manufacturers collect data for purposes unrelated to the feature they're developing.
throwaway29303··on Show HN: Pgpkeygenerator.com – Generate OpenPGP keys online securely
No online key generator is secure regardless if it's client side. You cannot make those types of security guarantees even if you go through audits or whatever. The web site's code could change at any time, or have third-party URLs, etc.

Anyone trusting these types of services are being fooled into a false sense of security. Do NOT use this or any similar online service.

throwaway29303··on Ask HN: Does Google checks your search history or emails before hiring you?
Probably not, but you should always assume that if they have the capability (and they do) that they will do the least intrusive thing they possibly can (it can't be the most intrusive thing because of a public relations nightmare scenario also because that would raise their risk too) to minimize their risk. I'm talking about a system that gives some sort of score to a candidate based on whatever Google can find on- and off-line about that person (off-line through their partnerships... for example banks, social networks, internet service providers, etc.) I am only speculating but I wouldn't be surprised if they did something like that in certain markets. Anyways, always assume the worst when it comes to Big Tech. Data is the New Oil as they say.

throwaway29303··on AI gains “values” with Anthropic’s new Constitutional AI chatbot approach

Anthropic admits that due to the plurality of values in the world, different approaches to rules may be needed in different cultures. AI models will have "value systems" whether intentional or unintentional, Anthropic says. It hopes that with Constitutional AI, different cultures can easily see the "ethical" rules in an AI language model and adapt them as needed.

throwaway29303··on We Interviewed the Engineer Google Fired for Saying Its AI Had Come to Life

The most sophisticated system I ever got to play with was heavily multimodal — not just incorporating images, but incorporating sounds, giving it access to the Google Books API, giving it access to essentially every API backend that Google had, and allowing it to just gain an understanding of all of it.

That's the one that I was like, "you know this thing, this thing's awake." And they haven't let the public play with that one yet. But Bard is kind of a simplified version of that, so it still has a lot of the kind of liveliness of that model.
Can't wait!!
