The old UI was probably built by engineers for performance and ease of use.
The new one is pretty, does all the stuff marketing wants, has loads of features, uses shiny new tech. Or, all the original engineers that knew how to build a good site left. Maybe both.
It's a dumpster fire. I haven't found anyone that disagrees and I have all the same bugs you do.
Fuscia and Java are both Android and tech related, don't see the problem. And the previous comment about Fuscia is just as off topic as mine, if not moreso. Java is at the core of Android and Fuscia hasn't made it out of the lab
And the backwards compatibility. One of the codebases I work on has loads of untouched 15 year old code that runs fine on Java 16. Good luck doing that in JS, Python, or really any other popular language besides C/C++
Google is planning to fix this eventually.
Android's API is also atrocious.
If you have enough threads passing stuff around and can deal with the ~50% performance loss between Java and Rust, it's much easier to use a language with GC.
There's talk of adding a quality GC to rust and dedicated GC types. If/when that happens, Rust will be a contender for a bunch of higher level systems
I'm not even going to say why because it would be a huge rant. It improves on C++ in virtually every way. Every feature you have in C++, Rust does it better. Every feature you wish C++ had, Rust has it.
I agree with you on Kotlin. It's better than Java on paper, but in much the same ways Groovy already was. And the advantages are shrinking in new versions of Java, especially if you use Lombok.
I've put a lot of time into learning Rust and I still reach for Java for high level stuff. GC is just wonderful for developer productivity. Lifetimes are way better than C but still a PITA.
Especially when you mix with threading, you end up using Reference Counting anyways which is just shitty GC.
Going to school or even having relationships with people under 40 is impossible without the internet.
We have a single Postgres instance and serve thousands of requests per second. You're going to be scaling Django way before that.
One of the reasons were trying to migrate is that Rails servers cost us almost an engineer salary, where our other backend is ~200/month
My mind is blown that anyone writes software for stacks that max out at few hundred requests per second.
Everything I've seen comparing "high level" languages says programmers work around the same efficiency whatever the language. So why isn't everything done in Go, C#, and Java where 100,000 requests/second is trivial?
Even if you don't have much load, isn't the possibiliy of a cat DDoS'ing you by sleeping on someone's F5 key at least slightly concerning?
I swear half these companies that claim their site is "being DDoS'ed!" it's just somebody just running HTTrack to archive an article they like.
I would be less worried if they used a fish virus or something. My primary concern is using a virus from such a closely related species. The mRNA approach without a live virus seems safer
People become criminals when there's few other options
The truth means nothing to those that wont listen. The Republican party is a far right monstrosity. The democrats in US are a right leaning party for all practical purposes. Hell, Biden said he would be fine running with a Republican VP.
Proprietary USB dongles for low delay headelsets is standard for foreseeable future.
Don't switch to wired, there's no point. Chances are, your HyperX headset has same latency as a wired connection.
I measured my delay using a USB keyboard which are generally assumed to have zero delay but that's not great.
I base most of my delay numbers off of reviewers that have special hardware
I think Google pre-emptively locked down Chrome API to prevent ML based blocking from working. This would explain their fixed URL block list and removing interactive API
PC upgrades have given me 50ms reaction time advantage. Nearly what I lost since my early 20s. Feels nice to be "good" at games again
Newer studies have shown recognition of events as fast as 13ms. https://news.mit.edu/2014/in-the-blink-of-an-eye-0116
More than 30ms of delay is noticable. My old screen + mouse had a delay of ~50 crudely tested. My old bluetooth headset was over 400ms!
I totally believe you that delay is noticable. I haven't used iPhone, but Android has terrible UI lag virtually everywhere (pointless animations don't help, pro tip you can turn these off in developer options)
If 2/3 of US internet users are left of conservatives, that's why they get downvoted to hell anywhere outside their safe spaces. IMO the crazy moderators on reddit are a result of the left lean, not the cause.
Mining and the new consoles take tons of silicon. And everybody is competing for the same fabs.
Supply chain problems and tariffs aren't doing much (if anything). Fabs run 24/7 365 and we just can't make enough chips
