throaway54321··on Detecting LLM-Generated Texts with “Classical” Machine Learning
I don’t think it actually matters (and it’s a losing strategy as others have noted).

This issue with AI generated stuff is that that it’s sometimes asymmetric: either the author worked very little to produce a lot of slop and now the reader(s) all have to do the heavy effort of reading it OR the author puts a little extra work in once and resolves all future readers’ burden.

If it was possible to boil down an artifact into a prompt + some resources that would be an interesting tool, or at least some way to tell if some artifact is “worth my time to read”

reminds me of the Nintendo strategy “lateral thinking with withered technology”
throaway54321··on The suck is why we're here
I think the issue is when you claim to have _done_ something yourself when in fact you didn’t. I think people have trouble differentiating real value vs what they think of as some flavor of carpetbagging
throaway54321··on Text-to-SQL is dead, long live text-to-SQL
Why would it be phased out? This doesn’t track. If anything SQL is stickier than ever since LLMs are actually pretty good at generating it.
throaway54321··on Ask HN: What to do if I'm a bad fit for dev team?
Thanks! Do you have any suggestions for Ben Franklin biographies/books?

When I first joined, I was working on a decent-sized project that required interfacing with other teams. My mode of development has always been to ask lots of questions, even if they're "dumb". I like "dumb" questions because it gets everyone on the same page, and it narrows the conversation. It's worked out really well in the past; I really believe in communicating early and often.

During my first week, I started down this path. I made comments in our chat, and was quickly told by my manager to take it offline. I was told that I shouldn't be "opening cans of worms" with other teams. So I had to be more discrete about understanding my new role, and figuring out Where the Bodies Were Buried in more round-a-bout ways.

That's the only direct feedback I've gotten from above; this is dysfunctional right?

funny, I started to post this as a response in one of those epic PR threads, but then deleted it because I didn't want to be inflammatory. Being new to the team and in this unfortunate position, I think it may be wiser to just roll over than fight. I'm in this unfortunate mode of minimizing the interaction if I can.
