thrillgore··on Did Elon Musk Appear to Sieg Heil at Trump Inauguration?
HN flagging this says all that needs to be said about what side HN and YC has chosen.

I'm leaving.

thrillgore··on DOOM CAPTCHA
Starting me on E1M9 with the arrow keys and a pistol on what I'm told is Nightmare difficulty is a dick move.
thrillgore··on Test
Everybody gets to make at least one test article in production.
thrillgore··on Nearly half of teenagers globally cannot read with comprehension
Wouldn't be HN if there wasn't some jerk flexing.
thrillgore··on Malware can turn off webcam LED and record video, demonstrated on ThinkPad X230
The easiest solution is to assume your webcam is 100% hostile and keep a cover/sticker on it until you need it.
thrillgore··on Response to DHH
I never thought Matt's unhinged behavior would make DHH look sane, and private equity look reasonable, but here we are.

I guess it's a good thing I moved to Hugo a year ago.

thrillgore··on Entire staff of game publisher Annapurna Interactive has reportedly resigned
I don't think that's true anymore, I believe Mike sold the IP to CD Project and has a stake in the company now, but I need to find a source to confirm this.
thrillgore··on SSH has become our universal (Unix) external access protocol
You can do all sorts of things with SSH. My favorite is SSHFS, which is couplings for SFTP that treat it like a proper filesystem, and it works on everything that uses SSH. Quicker to setup than a VPN and SMB, and about as secure (you could also theoretically use PAM to authenticate with LDAP or newer MFA protocols)
thrillgore··on GE Aerospace Successfully Develops and Tests New Hypersonic Dual-Mode Ramjet
Hypersonic missiles can defeat current defense systems (based on available intelligence)
thrillgore··on GE Aerospace Successfully Develops and Tests New Hypersonic Dual-Mode Ramjet
People are forgetting why they are really building this hypersonic rocket: Nuclear stockpile.
thrillgore··on Please don't mention AI again
The audience isn't getting to see it because it's getting flagged as it shows up.
thrillgore··on [dead]
This has probably been posted already
thrillgore··on In Colorado, an ambitious new highway policy is not building them
There are still emissions from cars: rubber from the tires, steel, aluminum, and other metals from part wear...
thrillgore··on Wayfair fired a bunch of people again today, after using them to train AI
Wasn't Wayfair also caught selling stuff to ICE?
thrillgore··on Canva has acquired Affinity in an effort to compete with Adobe
Oh jesus christ, can we stop with the acquisitions?
thrillgore··on Scientists Developed a Tool to Reveal Who's at Risk of Burnout, and It's Free
The website is called https://theburnout.app/ and its down.
thrillgore··on OpenFPGA
Which is just rich, as Analogue takes advantage of preorders to limit hardware on a per-order basis, meaning they are always out of stock. Don't have this issue with the MiSTer.
thrillgore··on Linus Torvalds flames Google kernel contributor over filesystem suggestion
Thanks for the feedback.
thrillgore··on Linus Torvalds flames Google kernel contributor over filesystem suggestion
This is very uncharacteristic of the direction Linus was heading. Damn, Steven must have seriously fucked up.

>You copied that function without understanding why it does what it does, and as a result your code IS GARBAGE. AGAIN.

I generally believe in positivity but if I saw this as his direct report I'd move him to another project ASAP to get scrutiny on his code quality.

thrillgore··on Amazon and iRobot call off their planned acquisition
I know the EU gets a lot of hate on HN, but its clear they're the last force on Earth trying to actively save it from the woes of unchecked capitalism.
thrillgore··on Free and Open Source Alternative to Airdrop
"We're really sorry, but your browser is not supported. Please use the latest desktop or Android version of Chrome, Opera or Firefox."

I am using the latest Firefox though

thrillgore··on Ask HN: Where can I find good legal documents?
A lawyer. I would try contacting a local startup incubator to see if they have any recommendations before you start googling or looking up Avvo.

I also found Termly helpful for a first Privacy Policy especially through their wizard, which clears up all your GDPR/CCPA matters, but you want a professional to look this over at some point.

thrillgore··on Changes we're making to Google Assistant
Typical Google
thrillgore··on CEO video: back to the office now, or else
"Cringe. There's no other word for it. This makes me cringe. It's embarrassing."
thrillgore··on Turing Complete is a game about computer science
Also of interest is Exapunks (https://www.zachtronics.com/exapunks/), which did a better job teaching me asm than my college course did.
thrillgore··on Boeing wants FAA to exempt MAX 7 from safety rules to get it in the air
If anyone from Expedia is reading, please add a filter so I can search for "Airbus flights only." Thanks.
thrillgore··on Paul Biggar removed from CircleCI board for pro-Palestine blog post
Just because you flagged this story doesn't mean it didn't happen.
thrillgore··on Figma and Adobe abandon proposed merger
And good for users because it means Adobe can't nickel and dime creatives by buying out competitors. Tell me you're an MBA without saying it.
thrillgore··on Figma and Adobe abandon proposed merger
Thank fucking god. I am worried though that Figma will take the cancellation fee and start the layoffs to maximize it for an eventual IPO, and then blame the merger.
thrillgore··on Delta Dental says data breach exposed info of 7M people
You know what will make this stop? Actual consequences for not preventing data breaches, like jail time.
