threecoins··on Gmail thinks I'm stupid, so I left
Fastmail is great, their android app is also great except one single thing. They for some obsure reason insist on opening attachments like pdfs inside the app instead of in the default app. But the problem is that they don't support opening password protected pdfs. And they shows an error that they dont support password protected files without providing an option to open in default app. I have to manually click on the file, read the stupid error, click the download button(this is available only in the error page), then use the notification bar to open the damn file on my phone. Everything else is fine. This one sketchy insistance to open every file themselves within the app even if they dont know how to do that is something that annoys me.
threecoins··on Total monthly number of StackOverflow questions over time
Here is one fine example. [1]

The person taking offense was member of C# language design team mind you. There are several such cases. This was particular question I stumbled upon because I wondered the same question and wanted to know what were the reasons. This was perfect Lucky Ten Thousand [2] moment for him if he wanted.

threecoins··on Show HN: I built Bazaari.io to make launching online stores simple and fast
Not the first either. There are other similar platforms like Dukaan[1] which already caters to local small scale vendors of India mainly.

Typo squatting research. See what users frequently mistype and receive NX reply so that they can register it and serve ads or do phishing or such.
threecoins··on Amazon to lay off 9,000 more workers after earlier cuts
A few 100 top companies are laying off while a few million IT companies are in full swing with their hiring. So if IT means these top companies for you, yea, maybe, else nothing is ending. Everything is alive and kicking.
threecoins··on Telemetry settings in Kibana
OP's problem is not about telemetry. Their problem was exactly what the title meant, "Opt-in" means user should make it true if they need, instead they have an opt-out with a name opt-in.

Imagine buying wipes labelled wipes, but they were actually dry tissues.

threecoins··on Can't Unsee
Insisting that "last seen 2h ago" online indicator being green and nothing else, requiring border radius for text boxes etc are not objective in any way.

threecoins··on Show HN: MiniMail – Disposable Email Service for Everyone
If you are a fastmail user, they provide a similar option. You can create masked email on @fastmail.com that redirect to your inbox and then delete it when you are done.
threecoins··on Heuristics that almost always work
This reminds me about an anecdote about how stock market works I heard when I was young. The story goes like,

It was autumn, and the Red Indians on the remote reservation asked their New Chief if the winter was going to be cold or mild. Since he was a Red Indian chief in a modern society, he couldn't tell what the weather was going to be.

Nevertheless, to be on the safe side, he replied to his Tribe that the winter was indeed going to be cold and that the members of the village should collect wood to be prepared.

But also being a practical leader, after several days he got an idea.

He went to the phone booth, called the National Weather Service and asked "Is the coming winter going to be cold?" "It looks like this winter is going to be quite cold indeed," the meteorologist at the weather service responded.

So the Chief went back to his people and told them to collect even more Wood.

A week later, he called the National Weather Service again. "Is it Going to be a very cold winter?" "Yes," the man at National Weather Service again replied, "It's definitely going to be a very cold winter. "

The Chief again went back to his people and ordered them tocollect every scrap of wood they could find. Two weeks later, he called the National Weather Service again. "Are you absolutely sure that the winter is going to be very cold?"

"Absolutely" , the man replied. "It's going to be one of the coldest winters ever. " "How can you be so sure?" the Chief asked. The weatherman replied, "The Red Indians are collecting wood like Crazy."

threecoins··on Ask HN: How to begin learning assembler for university course?
https://www.youtube.com/c/BenEater

This is a very good channel that will help you. He goes through assembly language in various videos as part of demonstrating different topics and I'm not gonna lie but he make it seem very simple and obvious.

threecoins··on Ask HN: We need a better alternative for Q/A than stackoverflow
Even with those fake internet points, Stackoverflow has the problem 0f voting ring, throw money in, and they will only get worse. Then your focus moves away from building content to optimizing against voting rings.

threecoins··on Ask HN: What's the best way to detect whether a road is jammed?

threecoins··on Ways to leak your data: apps’ circumvention of the Android permissions system
One thing I found whatsapp app does is that, if it detects that notification is disabled for a notification group like, say group chats, it deletes and recreates the permission group and android automatically enables it again as `enabled` is the default setting. I'm pretty sure Facebook's all apps does it but I dont have any of their other apps in my phone.

threecoins··on One pixel attack for deceiving deep neural networks
This makes me feel like neural networks are nothing but glorified hash functions. Well, if you think about it, here we are just optimizing for hash collisions of similar things.
threecoins··on US telcos appear to be selling non-anonymized access to consumer telephone data
Values with a * are simulated values it seems, which means those values are unavailable, as per the footnote in there. Not bogus data from your ISP atleast.
