thomasmeagher··on Ask HN: Swift or Objective-C?
Swift is the future, Objective-C is the past.
thomasmeagher··on Ask HN: Sunrise Calender users, what app will you switch to?
That is probably the best third-party keyboard.
thomasmeagher··on Ask HN: Can you name companies (5+ employees) with distributed/nomadic teams?
Product Hunt
thomasmeagher··on Show HN: Instacreep – View the main Instagram feed as someone you’re following
Sweet! Thought about doing this for Twitter, but rate limiting messes with re-constructing timelines for people with lot's of followers.
thomasmeagher··on Ask HN: What's the most effective growth hack you used to promote your app?
At Startup School NY, Chase Adam talked about winning a contest with Watsi by paying bar bouncers to not let people in if they didn't vote for them first.

This could probably be abstracted to app promotion.

thomasmeagher··on Show HN: Matter – A tiny collection of UI components
Plans to extend it past a tiny collection?
thomasmeagher··on Show HN: Time Machine – Re-discover the Best Products from Product Hunt
Thanks :) I appreciate the feedback! I love the PH community.
thomasmeagher··on Show HN: Time Machine – Re-discover the Best Products from Product Hunt
Quickly jump back to any day in PH's history and view the products.

Built using Swift and the PH API. GitHub repo: https://github.com/thomasmeagher/ProductHuntTimeMachine

thomasmeagher··on Ask HN: Companies that make startup videos?
Sandwich video has done product videos for Slack, Coin, Airbnb, Square, etc. http://sandwichvideo.com
thomasmeagher··on Ask HN: Which Android/iOS apps do you use every day?
iOS: Twitter, Reporter, Day One, Sunrise, Pocket
thomasmeagher··on Ask HN: Do you track data about your life? Has it helped or led to insights?
I use an iOS app called, Reporter (http://www.reporter-app.com/). It prompts you with push notifications to answer a set of custom questions throughout the day- Are you looking at a screen? Who are you with? Where are you? How many cups of coffee have you had?

The reports also capture "background" data using the phones sensors: number of steps, temperature, volume, elevation, phone battery, etc.

Its great for lightweight tracking and all the data can be exported in CSV or JSON formats. Reporter can definitely help you track sleep hours, food eaten, and productivity (weight and body fat % can also be captured).

I wrote an article about the 500 reports I've captured over the last 107 days: https://medium.com/p/c4454b9d8456

thomasmeagher··on Ask HN: Does anybody know of a great way to track migraines?
I would use Reporter app if you're on iOS. Here is a recent Ask HN thread: What apps or tools do you use to track things about your daily life? https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=8146114

It allows you to quickly fill out customized surveys (Your questions would be like: "Are you having a migraine right now?") and export the data in JSON or CSV formats.

thomasmeagher··on Ask HN: Uber for ______
Uber for mailboxes.

Product Hunt has a list of current Uber for X products past the idea stage: http://www.producthunt.com/e/uber-for-x

thomasmeagher··on Ask HN: What apps or tools do you use to track things about your daily life?
I do have a suggestion! Not sure if it's any good though.

It's called TagTime (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=bsoule.tagtime...) and pings you with random surveys similar to reporter.

Let me know if you use it and how it works out! @thomasmeagher on the twitter.

thomasmeagher··on Ask HN: What apps or tools do you use to track things about your daily life?
I use an iOS app called, Reporter (http://www.reporter-app.com/). It prompts you to answer a set of user defined questions throughout the day- Are you looking at a screen? Who are you with? Where are you? How many cups of coffee have you had?- through powerful surveys.

It also captures "background" data using the phones sensors: number of steps, temperature, volume, elevation, phone battery, etc.

Its great for lightweight tracking and all the data can be exported in CSV or JSON formats.

thomasmeagher··on What new language/tool to teach myself in 1 week with no Internet connection?
Definitely go with Python if you know some R. Check out Learn Python the Hard Way (http://learnpythonthehardway.org/book/). Either save the pages or just buy the book. It will be challenging, but you'll learn a lot and shouldn't need Internet, since everything is in the book.
thomasmeagher··on What are the best tools for identifying the hottest startups?
I love PH, but I'm not so sure that's a good indicator of the hottest startups. A good amount of the hunts are just standalone products with no business around them.
thomasmeagher··on Show HN: Beta available for our website that connects past, present and future
Going to check it out. You might want to optimize the site for mobile, I can help: thom (dot) meagher (at) gmail
thomasmeagher··on A startup postmortem with a happy ending
Definitely not a post mortem as smoyer mentioned. Huge opportunity with the World Cup, I hope you take advantage of it. Looking forward to seeing some fast, unique insight from Champion that I could not get from my favorite sports outlets.
thomasmeagher··on Ask HN: Can we fix the interview process for engineers?
So are you suggesting that the interviewee goes through something similar to a portfolio? These are some of the projects I have done in the past, I wrote this code here to solve this problem, etc. I agree with something along the lines of "the best predictor of future performance is past behavior," but it could be hard to keep a consistent--dare I say level--playing field that way.
thomasmeagher··on Kill The Hamburger Button
The original article provides some more insight. TC basically took the good parts. http://lmjabreu.com/post/why-and-how-to-avoid-hamburger-menu...
thomasmeagher··on Kill The Hamburger Button
I agree with the bottom; definitely easier for the user to reach the nav then. Maybe someone can comment from a UX perspective?
thomasmeagher··on Kill The Hamburger Button
Good call. Its all about a battle for space and I'm not so sure either solves it. I'm a fan of gesture-based navigation/menus, but the learning curve is pretty steep there.
