I wonder why women do not ask more. Especially with something like dating. It happens but far less regularly than the other way around. I wonder if that leap of faith contributes to men being more comfortable to negotiate/ask for higher income.

Glad he pointed out the obvious. (not being sarcastic)
I could see them re-designing it soon to something that's more uniquely them. That solution was probably just a quick and dirty attempt.
How so? (honestly, I'm dense)
Ah well. Rational writeups are all fine and good but not when you probably have a split second to capture the attention with an ad.
I'm sometimes jealous of the stories about Mark Zuckerberg and Kevin Rose because at least they had a girlfriend to stick around while they were going through the motions. Loneliness is a killer and I don't think friends/family could possibly understand how difficult it is. Even when you describe it they just shake their heads
I also agree with your assessment as it's something I've reiterated. I think it's possible that if Diaspora never got as much media coverage (and built up expectations), this wouldn't have happened. It may have exploded when it was in beta (or not), but the potential disappointment wouldn't have been as large. It's easy to step back and redefine success but in his shoes, I could imagine myself having very grand visions of what Diaspora could be (as also fostered by the coverage) and being crushed when it's not realized.
You could even cut it to "you can't understand just how big a gulf there can be between what people see when they look at you, and what you feel inside."
Yes. My cousin did by jumping and my sister attempted by overdose. Though I called an ambulance which saved her life. I won't argue that people shouldn't intervene when they can.
'I doubt you'd merely say "well, it was their choice". I bet you'd rethink your statement and your position.'
Not really. She's gone through a lot of shit. Meds. Psychiatrist. Friends. Hobbies. Boyfriends. Family. They help but they aren't the answer to everyone. And so if she attempts to commit suicide again and is successful I would be deeply saddened but at least know that she found a peace that she couldn't find in life.
Hell, even I experience that same lows. What is the point of having someone suffer through an existence which there is no solution that corrects the problem?
Whether it's messaging, posting photos, or reading news posts... Facebook does it well enough that people don't seek an alternative.
I'm not sure what Diaspora could offer purely from a usability standpoint that would convince everyday users to move over. And it'll be especially more difficult to get people to migrate who are using Facebook for Spotify and other services.
Certainly, success is subjective but I think the expectations for Diaspora was to be a legit alternative to Facebook and now G+. And while it is an alternative, it's not popular enough for most people to switch over. Furthermore, Diaspora got widely criticized with regards to their funding and subsequent releases... specifically people expecting much more for the amount of investment.
I'm used to looking at very visual samples in a grid format because it allows for more large images to be shown in a row. Things like furniture, clothing, templates... For things that require some text descriptions (such as tech specs), I think a list view is superior.
Hmm only once a month? That seems rather low.
Crazy. Normal people just care about stuff that works well and is easy to use.
Google maps UI is by far better than Yahoo maps. That and the street view/bike maps/etc. are features that give it a nice edge over alternatives.
Thankfully there are ways you can install an extra HD drive bay in your MBP replacing the optical drive.
But most people believe that the big redesign next year will not only include Ivy Bridge and a new form factor but also the removal of the optical drive.
There are some pretty well designed ones.
