thisisnico··on NDA expired, let’s spill the beans on a weird startup
I meet all of those qualities, maybe I should take a look at this!
thisisnico··on Alcohol-free beer is fizzing
Additionally it is a source of energy. Alcohol is digestible. There is a caloric benefit.

thisisnico··on Stress does turn hair gray, and it’s reversible
I had a grey patch at 27, it went away. But it's not true that most people don't have grey hair at that age, most people actually do, just not enough to be super noticeable.
thisisnico··on Stress does turn hair gray, and it’s reversible
I mean, for me, cardio makes the biggest difference on my stress levels. Lifting alone made me more stressed out and in pain. I made a mistake listening to the powerlifter/bodybuilder crowd. The amount of stress it creates on your body is insane, not in a good way.
thisisnico··on Stress does turn hair gray, and it’s reversible
I was 27, My mom died recently, I had a new job that was insanely stressful, I was a landlord at the time in a duplex and barely knew what I was doing (lived in for 1 year), learning how to live on my own stress, my long term girlfriend cheated on me, and this was (the one) to me at the time. Everything culminated into me being so ridiculously stressed out. I stopped doing cardio, I started powerlifting and gained a ton of muscle and fat. Started Binge drinking again on weekends. One day I woke up with A bald patch and a White patch on my beard.

It's been 1.5 years and I'm still recovering from the trauma. My white patch is mostly gone, still a few stragglers, and my bald patch filled in completely. I started to lose fat, eat healthier, calm down my drinking again, reduce my lifting, increase cardio. I had a bad month with work from home and stopped taking care of my health again, had a bunch of random greys come back in a few concentrated spots. Treated myself better and they started going away again... Some of the hairs were half white-half brown (Brown at the stem). I know you read the science that once it goes white you're done, but it's 100% not true for everyone.

thisisnico··on Myths in cycling: wider tires are slower
My bike is the best for the city.. got a Specialized Tri-Cross with 32mm tires.. can do everything and handle our horrible roads.
thisisnico··on A walk in nature is better than microdosing
I know 0 people who have mentioned microdosing, or even know what that is. Hacker News has a way of distorting reality, citing specific studies, reinforcing and arguing against them with anecdata. Creating a bubble within the Hacker News reality. Many of the studies that these people reference, in psychology, and in health, the only way to get information out of them is through meta-analysis of many studies. These fields are so contradictory within themselves, it's not even worth looking at most "individual" studies. Sometimes even the meta-analysis can be wrong as well.
thisisnico··on The problem with reinforced concrete (2016)
My knives started showing some rust spots. I thought there must be something wrong with the knives, but I realized after googling, it was something wrong with how I was washing the knifes... I left it in a tub of very hot water and soap for a day, did this multiple times, viola, rust spots.

thisisnico··on The Tether Ponzi Scheme
Gen Z economy. What are you talking about? USD has been fiat since the 70’s
thisisnico··on Companies may be punished for paying ransoms to sanctioned hackers
Ransomware typically targets all systems, including redundant systems, and backup systems used for recovery in the event of everything you've described.
thisisnico··on Companies may be punished for paying ransoms to sanctioned hackers
A lot of times the losses result in the loss of the business entirely.
thisisnico··on U.S.'s Biggest Gasoline Pipeline Halted After Cyberattack
IT is typically grossly understaffed and underfunded in these businesses. At the site-level, you'll see some very out of date tech running critical systems. IT is a cost-center to be reduced as much as possible, oversight is non-existent.
thisisnico··on Stock Market Returns Are Anything but Average
Edit: (Some) Stocks that don’t pay dividends still pay you. Most stocks now don’t pay dividends. Either they reinvest in the business (growing the stock’s value) or buyback shares with extra cash, (alternative method to dividends as they’re returning value to you the shareholder.)
thisisnico··on Unemployment Is High. Why Are Businesses Struggling to Hire?
Ah, Sorry, I come from the perspective of Canadians, you should see how insane the Canadian Market is right now.
thisisnico··on Unemployment Is High. Why Are Businesses Struggling to Hire?
I don't think the prices are gonna correct as much as people think it would, considering my entire generation is waiting on the sidelines to buy, the demand will always be there until it's satisfied.
thisisnico··on US imposes sanctions on Russia over cyber-attacks
I believe Russia had signed a deal with China to trade in their own currencies, as Russia attempts to fully de-dollarize their economy and trade. This was done since 2015 when the initial sanctions where applied.

You're going to have a really really tough time riding Microsoft from government, considering it really is the number 1 enterprise software solution stack, and nothing even comes close to what Microsoft does in enterprise environments. I get that the hackernews crowd is very linux-biased because most of the web-software development world is based around linux. It's easy to think that linux is everything when it's really not.
thisisnico··on Facebook slow to address political manipulation outside wealthy, western nations
Strategically placed someone that would align with their values and goals while making appearances that they care about "integrity". This strategic placements of persons happens everywhere.
thisisnico··on Work peak and professional decline (2019)
I think this man needs to see that life isn't only your work. The value you provide to others and self-worth shouldn't be tied exclusively to work, there is so much more to life and so much more to give past 60.
thisisnico··on Top Paid LA Lifeguards Earned Up to $392k in 2019
Also FAANG employee is paid according to value created, they'd have to create more value then they are paid otherwise they wouldn't be employed.

Lifeguarding value is determined differently and is independent of pay.

I live quite close to you, fellow Ontarian here. Windsor is where I call home. I plan one day to own a house on the lake, nothing else like it.

thisisnico··on Meat consumption and risk of 25 conditions: outcome-wide analyses of 475K people
I would say that the vegetarian diet says more about the person than the diet itself.
thisisnico··on Tesla voids warranty if you try to power your home with your car
Most warranties treat Car Batteries/Rotors/Pads as a maintenance item and are excluded from warranties.
thisisnico··on Tesla voids warranty if you try to power your home with your car
I would also assume that most of the cars electronics that aren't propulsion based are manufactured and designed by parts suppliers that base their experience and design around the 12v batteries. Giving them a similar power supply means not having to redesign the cars electronics specifically for Tesla.
thisisnico··on Who did the Anglo-Saxons think they were?
Such an incredible series.

Also, do you see just HOW MANY awards are being applied to WSB posts? It's consistently off the charts lol. I'm willing to bet it's the most awarded subreddit by a wide margin.
