The only writing more cringey than ars technica is it’s comments section.
I could be the richest man in the world. I could have 4 legs.
I wonder how many flights he’s taken this year. I wonder what his personal energy usage metrics are.
That would be a fun little side game - anyone who runs in the circles to decide energy cost/policy/etc has their metrics beside their face when they speak. Just for fun.
People don’t organize organically in large groups. The media tends to lead them.
All this rule you have would do is make sure grassroots protesting isn’t permitted but when the elite run a media train on citizens minds then that will be ok.
Hubris abound.
You’re making the mistake of looking at too small a data sample and assuming what came before.
Not rational at all, just parroting a narrative, sadly.
What does my lack of trust do to the cia or fbi? They both still track my every move. The govt makes laws I despise.
We have no control.
Wow that’s cringey.
Let’s say whatever your ideology is is correct. You really think this juvenile form of attention seeking is how you’re going to sway PhD scientists and researchers to do what you want?
It’s an appeal to emotion in a scientific setting. Someone doing this is either a) socially under developed or b) narcissistic and seeking attention.
Not to mention “our dying planet” sounds like a pretty hard argument to justify rationally.
And I say this as someone who’s never the most up to speed on the social cues…
This title is an incredibly lazy attempt at clickbait
I’m sure they’ve done the calculations and testing by now and the answer is no fail = more profit
Also, this reminds me of the unpleasant experience in a very small grad program of being asked for anonymous feedback at the end of a semester
It’s pretty sick how we have this parasitic industry built around “how can we manipulate developing brains at all costs for our profit?”
What’s the benefit to our society? Mentally damaged youth turning to mentally damaged adults, carrying in a cycle devoid of meaning in life and perpetually addicted.
We don’t believe children should have full freedom because they are a danger to themselves. Yet we allow nearly totally unrestricted psychological manipulation cast onto them from billions/trillions of dollars worth of force.
I’m growing very cynical of the world and the people who are responsible for making it this way.
If you look at the global maps, you can see that while some regions are extra warm, (eastern Europe and Russia being main ones), there are complimentary countries being extra cold.
We can also look to the US midwest which around Christmas faces winchill temps around -60F and had several feet of snowfall in just a couple weeks.
It really makes a person wonder why this topic can only ever go one direction. Why we can’t even examine the data that don’t wholesale support the narrative.
At least - that’s what they said when it came out and they demanded everyone take it.
Plus with all the boosters, combined with the general trend of dwindling intensity of viruses in a population over time, one should expect this effect to be even more dramatic
Yet here we are, talking about covid like it’s April 2020. How it’s so devastating of a virus, like we’ve gained nothing in fighting it since then
Funny how literally any metric can be used to justify covid madness
Surely you can see that the goal posts have been shifted from the days of “the vaccine is our road back to normalcy” and similar mantras when they first were pushed?
It was originally touted as the solution. Many people who were silenced, fired, or worse, were silenced from objecting with the idea that “this isn’t a solution, I’d rather not”
And now we’re saying it was a rousing success, yet it isn’t enough at the same time…
The doublespeak is astounding
Because my non AI eyes are seeing a lot of little discrepancies in the “restored” photo that don’t seem like they should be there (edges of eyes, lips, etc)
And I think these little differences are going to be very off putting for someone expecting to see a new side of a loved one but getting something 2% off
Lol what?
Literally most people I know not from the us are either living with or strongly financially supported by their families. Often are buying their first home before their 30s
Americans were sold out and now they think 7 years before the brain fully developed a person should have picked themselves up by their bootstraps…
“Yes, sir. I just want to say to all my supporters, family and friends; I love y'all and appreciate y'all. To the ones representing me today, thank you for everything. The system has failed me. This is a miscarriage of justice. There are people on death row that need help. I love my family. I love you too, Mom. I am alright. I asked the Lord to have mercy on me and I hope He has mercy on these people carrying out this mass slaughter. They have no respect for humanity. To Melanie, I never meant to hurt you. You were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. I am not asking for your forgiveness. All I have to worry about is God forgiving me. I hope you get better and for the doctors to continue to take care of you. Take care of my mother for me. To everybody, know that I love you and I am OK. Lord, have mercy on my soul. Lord, have mercy on my soul. Lord, have mercy on these peoples' soul. Life is not supposed to end this way. No more pain and frustration. When I knock at the gates, they will open up and let me in. To my mom and everybody, I love you. I can feel it right now. My life, my life.”
Interesting seeing the visualization someone else linked that “love” was the most common word.
This person used the word love 4 times, while simultaneously denying his responsibility and saying that it’s the rest of the world that’s bad.
We just added something like 85,000 federal employees to shake down our citizens for more sheckes. Yet there’s nothing in place to come down on a mega corporation to pay what they owe? Instead you have to go toe to toe with their teams of highly paid lawyers?
This is modern America. It’s just an endless cycle of getting screwed over and celebrating when we lose because we could have lost so much more.
Why should the US all the way on the other side of the world be depriving these two modern superpowers of their neighboring resources?
We have military proxy states set up all around Russia and China. The US has been the dominant power in the world for around 100 years.
Not that I don’t benefit from it, but it seems willfully ignorant to act like it’s US good guy Russia/China bad guy. We’d do the same expansionist thing, as evidenced by Ukraine and Taiwan themselves…
This is literally ignoring the setup for the problem that OP gave you.
The media, and by extension the minds of majority of our citizens, are owned by the same corporate entities you mention.
They control language so that people will go along with their greed.
So if you’re a corp, you steer the discussions around your profit seeking avenues so people don’t even posses the language necessary ti discuss your demise.
People will never discuss the abstract idea that this whole “legal entities == people” thing is fucked, because they think they’re clever to talk about some vague future tax that will never be implemented because the corps own the politicians too.
People aren’t avoiding the elephant - they have been programmed to not realize the elephant is the problem.
Even with his wealth and network, the guy is probably going to prison for many years. Before that he gets to live a little longer as a relatively free man.
So what?
Peoples brains seem to shut off and they just focus on this brief pre prison time like it’s some circumvention of justice.
Another lesson how laws only apply to the non rich.
“He closes with a provocative thesis: namely, that the present worldwide movement toward democracy owes not to Locke or Newtonian physics, but to Indians, “living, breathing role models of human liberty.””
Oh lord. Revisionists begetting revisionists.
I had a buddy in college who insisted that Natives were ‘almost as technologically advanced as europeans’ and if not for a few miscalculations in battle, would have effectively flung them off and advanced to a society beyond our wildest dreams.
Of course, he failed to respond when I mentioned that there were no modern weapons and the mystical technology he assumed to exist amounted to little more than what Europeans had had for tens of thousands of years.
It’s really sad how much hyperbole gets thrown into the revisionism of prehistoric civilizations. It’s not doing the descendants of these people any favors to make up fictitious reinventions of their technological advancements.
